Mystery, Suspense, You have it! Don McGraw pulls it together in a well planned plot. Karl Dutton is on track for the execution of his ex-wife. - in 4 weeks. Former FBI agent - Will Hogwath - popular for solving cold cases - is called in by Dutton to help. You see, Dutton has already exhausted 8 appeals and this really is last chance at a stay of execution. Two things hold Will back: his family is facing terror from an event that happened 6 months ago and Dutton once upon a time bilked Will's parents out of most of their retirement money. MHM - the law firm that handled Dutton's case from the beginning meets with Will. They tell him that Dutton now wants Will (and only Will) to help him. We find out the how and why.

A countdown until execution ensues. Will meets many roadblocks - including that of his own family's safety. Dutton's son, Ethan, may be able to assist Will in order to make his father a free man...

A classy story with a lot of twists you do not see coming. I was enthralled throughout the entire book!

Many Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for a truly brilliant read!!!

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

Karl Dutton destroyed his family when they lost everything to his smooth tongue. Now Will Hogarth has been asked by the man, himself to perform a last minute miracle and prevent him from dying from lethal injection for a murder he claims not to have committed. The courts disagree and Karl has only 4 WEEKS TO LIVE. Should Will use his investigative prowess to help prove Karl’s innocence or should he let the man feel the power of Karma?

Too tempting to refuse, curious and compelled by Karl’s story, Will has little time to save the man, wondering all along how justice could be best served.

Don McGraw’s writing is bold, crisp and edgy throughout as he brings this gritty tale to life, raising as many questions along the way as answers that may or may not save Karl from death. The past will loom large, the present will be dangerous and someone in the shadows will do all they can to stop Will from digging too deep.

Suspenseful, hard-boiled and filled with more tentacles of possibilities than an octopus, this tale is one of those edge-of-your-seat reads that will keep readers guessing until the end…has time run out for Karl? Is he guilty as charged? Has Will tried all he could? Excellent adult suspense!

This book is emotionally-impacting as the reader joins Will Hogarth as he investigates the case of a man he despises while trying to keep his family safe from a revenge-seeking psychopath. I got caught up in the book and let the rest of my life slide. Will is coerced into investigating the murder of the wife of a man scheduled to be executed as her killer. He meets a number of sympathetic characters and faces many obstacles as he looks for evidence to support delaying the scheduled execution. All the characters are very realistic, and none seem likely as the murderer. The ending is very dramatic as the scheduled execution begins with nothing to stop it. Even before the ending, emotional events occur to impact the reader. Definitely read this when you have time to finish it, and be prepared to become very emotionally involved.

If you like books that build in intensity then this is the book for you, overlapping characters back stories. I found it a little boring in the beginning and almost gave up, but, I am so glad I carried on. The middle to end of book really pulls you in. Recommend this but be prepared

A page turning mystery that will be hard to forget. Will Hogarth, a well known private investigator, was hired by Karl Dutton as a last ditch attempt to prove his innocence when he had only 4 weeks left to live,.he was due to go to the death chamber for killing his wife. Will was reluctant as his parents had invested in one of Karl’s ‘secure’ investment schemes that went awry. Them and many others lost their life savings while Karl lived the life of luxury. In fact Will despised Karl.
Meanwhile Will and his family were trying to recover from a devastating brutal attack, that Wills wife and daughter were subject to. They finally escaped, but their torturer Brajko Markovic was determined to take revenge On their whole family.
The author cleverly intertwines both his investigation for Karl and his constant worry for his family, although the two are not connected.
Extremely well written and if you like a good mystery that has some depth, I highly recommend it.
