Description

The standalone first book in the Men of Rapture series.

Rush Kaplan likes his women wet, his alcohol straight, and his drugs any way he can get them. He parties all night and sleeps 'til noon, only to wash, rinse, and repeat the next day. He flies as close to the sun as he dares, praying he'll one day get burned.

With his past haunting his every waking minute, he can no longer enjoy life's natural highs, so he instead settles for the manufactured kind. But the emptiness is always there, lingering on the edges of his psyche and threatening to swallow him whole.

All he wants is to feel alive.

Six months after graduating veterinary school, Alyssa Cole feels like she's making a difference. Her clinic is located in a working-class neighborhood, and she's enacted a sliding pay scale to make her services more affordable.

When she comes in early one morning to treat a sick pup, she finds a man covered in blood and passed out on the floor. But it just isn't any man. It's the same one she spied in the alley behind her clinic only a week earlier.

And he wasn't alone.

With the memory from that day still fresh, will the good doctor call the police and have him arrested for breaking and entering, or can she be the cure for what ails him instead?

The standalone first book in the Men of Rapture series.

At first, I must admit I hated Rush so much I stopped reading, but then later I thought I would give him a chance. And damn it killed me. I loved how Alyssa had the perfect answer to shut him up and how he was cocky with her, but hated so much when he pushed her away from him. I would totally recommend this book

I have never read Faye Rush before. I was super interested in reading Rush from the blurb that I read. I enjoyed this story.

This was a really good book. I wasn’t sure because of his drug addiction but I loved how he fixed himself because of her. I recommend this book!

Good storyline. On the surface these two have everything but it doesn’t take much to realize that their lives are far from happy and much more complex than apparent. Lessons — we all make mistakes. Each person deals with grief, dissatisfaction, failure in his or her own way. Life is about recognizing and accepting second chances. Glad I took a chance and read this book. Will recommend to friends.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The hero (Rush) has some serious problems and uses cold sexual encounters and drugs to live with it. He is really brutal. The heroine is a good person, she has a goals, a life, and she is happy. She sees him during one of his no strings encounters in the alley behind her clinic.
The hero gets badly hurt (those no string attached encounters will bite you in the bootie every time!) and the heroine patches him up. A friendship develops between them and she slowly helps him heal.
I really liked this book. Do I sound surprised? I am. After the first chapter I was ready to throw in the towel, the hero seemed like an irredeemable selfish POS. But... he grew on me. Yes, his drama made me roll my eyes. His reaction to a Very Bad Thing was, to put it bluntly, immature. As did his latching on to the heroine as his savior. The heroine also seemed emotionally immature, yet... motherly? Caring? Forgiving? Still, I enjoyed their relationship. I enjoyed the dialogue. I enjoyed seeing them get together, and I enjoyed seeing them happy.
I will probably read it again as a short, feel good read.

Rush is a troubled soul, searching for constant escapism from his troubled past. He dose this by drinking to excess, taking any type of drugs offered to him and has meaningless sexual encounters with any woman offering herself to him. Just to get those few moments of oblivion these highs give him.

When he’s at one of his lowest points, he breaks in to a veterinarian surgery, to find drugs and to tender his wounds after being jumped in an ally. Once he breaks in to the veterinary surgery he is unable to stop himself from passing out.

In walk Alyssa Cole, who owns the surgery. She’s gone in early to check on a sick pup but discovers an unconscious man covered in blood and passed out on her surgery floor. When she goes to take a closer look at him, she realises it the same man she saw a few days ago in the ally having sex.

Intrigued Alyssa decides to help Rush. Who uses sexual innuendos and outlandish behaviour to hide his true self. Alyssa is a smart sassy woman who wont stand any of his antics and puts him in his place, even though the sparks between them are just out of control.

This book is hot and sexy, just like its cover. Its got everything in it that makes a good hot sexy romance book with a good background story and with just enough erotica not to scare off people who don’t like the full blown erotica type of book. It’s definitely well worth the read, I couldn’t put it down. It’s the first book in the ‘Men of Rapture’ series and I really cant wait to read the rest.

I think I devoured this in about 3 hours! So hott, fast paced and electrifying. Everything you need for a quick fix. The story had me hooked from the beginning to end. I'd definitely purchase the other books in the series. Thanks for the opportunity to read this gem.

Rush, trust-fund with addiction problems, meet Alyssa, veterinarian who cares.

I wasn't keen on the first few chapters, Rush acted out of line time and time again, for no reason. I felt like Alyssa deserved better, but I wanted to see how it continued. And wow, I was impressed. I couldn't put the book down!

It was nice and refreshing to watch the relationship grow and progress and while I wish it was longer, I'm definitely looking forward to more books in this series.

A new to me author that I'll be checking out more books by. Rush by Faye Byrd book one in the Men of Rapture series. Great storyline, dialogue and characters. A spicy storyline. I look forward to reading more in this series and by this author.

A fast paced HOT read! Of course it’s going to be explicit, it’s an erotica novel! Some of the previous reviews just baffled me! A great start to a series and a new author to me. Rush is a troubled soul and finds the right person to help him on his journey. Faye is somewhat of a saint. She is a recent graduate of Veterinarian school that’s not in her profession for the money by any means. When you put these two together it’s hot and electrifying! Couldn’t put it down until the last page! Can’t wait for the next in the series!

Rush Kaplan is filled with a bottomless pit of darkness, which he is desperately trying to avoid falling into. The only way he manages is to fill his life is with drugs and meaningless encounters which leads him to the Doc’s back door. She manages to patch him up but in the process forges a connection with him which makes him see a light at the end of the tunnel. Intense and gripping story, looking forward to the next one. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved it and cannot wait for the next book in the series to be published. I would have liked to have had a bit more character development but all in all, it was a fairly good book.

I was a little sceptical about this book after reading some of the reviews .
All I can say is I must have read a different copy!

The start is a little raw and edgy, but soon mellows out into a gripping read.
I was rooting for Rush from early in the book. He is a lost soul with a good but broken heart.

Alyssa is a lovely character, she has a heart of gold, and sees Rush not as he is but for what he can be .

I was thrilled with the HEA, and sad to finish the book.
I'm looking forward to the next two books in the series and can't wait to hear Ace and Nikos stories.
It would be great to hear Skunks story too, maybe his and Elles story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"RUSH" by Faye Byrd.

My first time reading that author.

5 stars.
I LOVED IT!
At first I hated Rush, he's a jerk! Then I started to like him as we slowly get to know about his past, his life, what he's been through. He's not at all the jerk I first thought he was. He's emotional, he's in pain. He uses women for sex, and alcohol, drugs, to ease his pain and doesn't think he deserves anything else, good things happiness, love.
I liked Alyssa right away. She's a nice caring vet and she wants to fix Rush.

The characters are well developed, the dialogues are good, strong and funny at times, the book is well written, the story is interesting, not boring at all.
And I loved the cover as well!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I really liked the realism of Rush. He was messed up and knew it. Thankfully, he made that mistake that led to Dr. Cole.

Hot and steamy romance book. Absolutely loved it. I will probably reread this book that’s how good it was. Definitely should read this book if you haven’t

Wow, I loved this book!! It kept me gripped and I read it in 2 evenings! Both main characters resonated with me and I felt for them both. I’d definitely recommend

Wow! Right from the beginning, this one had me hooked! Finished it in a day, I just couldn't put it down!
Rush was all engrossing. I was instantly invested in where he would end up. It was clear, right from the start, that this was a damaged man, with his drug and alcohol abuse, and several mentions of suicidal thoughts. Filling the void with a new thrill every time he felt anything other than numbness.
Alyssa was the perfect support character. An all around good person, with just the slightest edge of darkness, she balanced Rush perfectly throughout the story.
I loved the writing style, the back and forth between the two characters. I found that there was very little use of the classic romance novel cliches. The characters were more open with each other than is usual with the genre, and I appreciated that. I did find some of the vulgar language a little excessive in places, but it didn't take a lot away from the story.
A solid 4.5 stars for this one! I'll be waiting for the other stories in this series!

This is a new author for me but I really enjoyed this book. It was a very hot and fast paced read. I really liked the dialogue between the characters and the descriptions that the author used when she was describing things. I will definitely be looking for more books by her in the future.

The girl is gone quick as rush reminded her she knew the rules. The euphoria is gone almost as quick as the girl, leaving Rush to his usual loathsome existence, his constant search for something to make him feel alive. Rush is tired of the emptiness that's always gnawing inside him. His eyes scan the desolate alley, always on alert, constantly craving his next fix in whatever form it may come. Anything other than the constant darkness that threatens to swallow Rush whole. The back door of Rapture opens and the bartender niko said Sticks was in there asking about him. Time for rush’s game face. Than he goes to Sticks booth , Stick slides him a small plastic baggie with coke in it and he slides Sticks a bill. It’s always easy. Almost too easy, but that never deters Rush. As soon as the game begins his blood starts cursing through his veins, reminding him why he bothers at all. A redhead had been eyeing him but he went in the bathroom and snorted two lines of coke that he had just purchased. When he came out of the bathroom the redhead was there. Forward and Rush liked that but he wanted the suge to last as long as possible. He asks her if she is woman enough to handle him. Than he slides a small baggie between her breasts and tells her to go have her own private party first, he will be around. Than he hears his name called by a familiar voice and that brings a real smile to rush’s face. Ace Carmichael owns a custom body shop a couple blocks away. Rush met Ace when he first started hanging in the neighborhood. He saved rush’s sorry butt after a particularly nasty fight. They slowly formed a friendship after that. He trusts Ace tp snatch him back in line if he strays too far off the deep end. Rush is glad Acr was there, it keep the emptiness at bay. Ace asked him if he didn’t ever want more than just a hookup. Rush was thrust into the past, robbing him of his ability to breath. Something more was an option for him once, but it’s gone, no longer among his capabilities. He is more messed up than anyone should have to deal with. Poor choices on top of bad actions equal a disaster in the making and it seems it’s the only way rush knows how to live. The redhead comes over after Ace leaves. Life thrums through his veins replacing the emptiness with something else. Lust. Want. need. A burning to drown in something that wasn’t real. Real was guilt. It’s an unending cycle of blame and remorse. It’s a painful past that followed a broken path. It’s a very messed up journey he wishes he could erase but he can’t it’s always there. Forcing rush to commit the next deprived acts just to feel normal for a brief period. Alyssa had opened veterinary clinic with a sliding scale so people could have veterinary care. Veterinary care is normally reserved for the comfortable, those who don’t have to choose between their their pets and groceries. Alyssa had opened her business not even six months ago. His business provides her with a comfortable living while Alyssa to help those whose pets might otherwise die from inability to pay the bill Elle was he receptionist and college friend. Alyssa collected the garbage on her office and opened the door to put it in the garbage dumpster. She stops as she sees aman with his pants down having sex with a woman. She wants to back away and leave them as much privacy as an open alley allows but she is frozen. Their brazen act is both shameless and a turn on. For a few brief seconds Alyssa yearns to be taken so boldly, turned on so thoroughly that she could ignore her surroundings and just feel. Than the two finish and he won’t let the girl touch him as he said “ you know how this goes.” As the woman leaves she said someone really messed you up. Even though she is gone he said “ if only you knew.” One morning Alyssa came to work early to take care of a sick puppy and she found the man from the alley-rush- covered in blood and passed out on her floor. Rush had broken in her clinic. She realizes he is the same guy she seen having sex in the alley with the woman about a week ago. Should she try to help him or call the cops for breaking and entering her clinic?
I loved Alyssa and cash together. Especially when he was working on changing even though he still messed up. I loved rush when he let his guard down. This had steamy sex scenes. I loved how rush wanted to change an be a better man for Alyssa. I thought there was a little too much vulgar language in this. This book caught my attention form the beginning and held fast until the end. I didn’t want to put this down. I was glad Rush met Alyssa and she didn't have him arrested and she was there for him as he fought to change. I do think the ending was a little rushed. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

4 Captivating, Mysteriously Sexy Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Rush was driven by alcohol, drugs and women, until he met Alyssa Cole. Was this the light he needed in his life to find a reason for living again? Or was he incapable of turning his life around?

Faye Byrd has delivered a captivating story, that pulled me in from the beginning. Her writing flows smoothly, building up the story with each chapter. It was clear Rush had a past that was haunting him, and I was absorbed by his character and the story to discover just what he was hiding.

I knew there was much more to Rush’s character than the lifestyle he was living, he was hiding behind a mask and I wanted to know what had happened to shape him to be the way he was, even though I was not very keen on some of his behaviour.

Alyssa Cole was far from an angel herself when it came to her sex life, however, the change in her when she met Rush, was as intriguing, as the change in Rush after his first encounter with her. It was clear when they were together, they brought out feelings in each other, that neither had felt in a long time, and it was getting harder for them to ignore.

I loved seeing how Rush evolved from a haunted man, to a man with a mission, that he was determined to not fail. The passion and willpower he held was inspiring, and I was fighting along with him to see him reach the goals he had set.

This is an erotica romance, for those who enjoy a little darkness to a story and are open-minded. This is about a man finding a reason to fight the darkness, and have a shot at a life he thought he didn’t deserve.

Rush is out for anything to give him the ability to forget his past. He uses women, drugs, booze to do it. Alyssa is a veterinarian out of school the past six months. She meets Rush when he shows up on the doorstep of her workplace one morning. He's bloody and unconscious. The story really starts picking up quick and the sex is sizzling between the characters. Rush is redeemable and I liked him. Alyssa is woman enough to handle Rush's antics. A good read I enjoyed to the last page.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

It’s not often that I go back and reread a book I rated less than 3 stars initially, but after being offered the opportunity to read book 2 in the Men of Rapture series, I felt the need to reacquaint myself with the characters and decide whether my initial mixed feelings about this book were justified.

I hoped to understand Rush and his choices, and totally understood where the author was going with his penchant for using drugs, alcohol and sex to numb his pain; unfortunately, while I’m no prude, and love a whole lotta sex in my stories, Rush’s explicit sex life (quite often in public places) and crude dialogue, made him very difficult to like. But here is where my feelings changed from my first reading of this story, as taking time to really immerse myself in the gritty, self-flagellating lifestyle that Rush felt was his due, forced me to acknowledge the depth of his emotional torture and self-loathing because of events that were essentially out of his control.

Thankfully, one sassy, take no prisoners, get over yourself veterinarian named Alyssa, sees beneath Rush’s sordid and obnoxious persona, to the man who is suffering a wealth of pain, and hell bent on his own destruction. This is definitely not a light-hearted read, and the first few chapters will certainly test your moral endurance; but if you can push past the sleazy and abhorrent behaviour that Rush displays early on, there’s an insightful plot to be found and a well-written and thought provoking storyline within the pages of this book. I’m glad I took the time to revisit Rush, witness his transformation and discover the essence of the person he was meant to be.

This was a good book. Rush is troubled and hiding it with booze, drugs and women. Alyssa is his perfect match, balancing him and making him want to be a better person. He tries to resist the obvious pull they have as he is afraid he is not good enough for her and it will ruin the budding friendship they've started. But passion overtakes them and I loved the HEA

HOT!! That's the only way to describe this book. The chemistry between Rush and Alyssa is off the charts. Throw in some suspense and it makes this book a great read. The only complaint I have is the book isn't long enough-I want more Rush and Alyssa!!

4 1/2 Stars!

Alyssa is a vet and she opened her own clinic where she was needed most ... on the wrong side of the tracks. One morning she comes to work to find the guy she saw getting a blowjob in the alley the week before, has broken into her clinic and has been badly beaten and stabbed. He begs her not to call the police and help him instead. Alyssa feels a connection with him, so she stitches him up and takes him to his house. And his house is in a very rich, exclusive neighborhood ... which doesn’t fit with the alcoholic, druggie who has habit of taking women in the back alley of the bar Rapture. Rush is so broken that the only thing that makes him feel alive is drugs and sex. But when he meets the adorable Doc from the vet clinic ... his world will once again take a turn.

This book grabbed my attention right from the start and never let go! Rush is so broken, I couldn’t help feeling sorry for him because you just knew that he has been through something horrific. And Alyssa was his shining light ... she was just so sweet and caring. I can’t believe she didn’t call the cops on him when he broke into her clinic. This was a great start to the series and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

I received a copy courtesy of BooksGoSocial through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Rush - Part of a series but can be read as a standalone (has HEA)
This is the first novel I have read by this author and I enjoyed it immensely.
I am over books that depict specific professions as inexperienced / uninterested with sex, this book is not one of them.
You want to hate Rush but something in the authors writing makes you believe he has a troubled soul even but you read about it. Alyssa is his match in every way. Strong enough on her own but stronger with Rush by her side.
Hot sex scenes for mature reader.
I wish it was longer.
All in all a great read!
Looking forward to reading more by the author.

I really enjoyed this book and could see it flushed out more and made a romance instead of erotica. I wanted to know more about Rush and Alyssa by the end. I know more books are coming in this series, but I still would like to see a long-form book with more back story on the main characters.
