Description

A screaming newborn is thrown from a speeding car onto a dusty Texas road. Immediately, swarms of vultures descend on her to feast.

A vicious kick from a crippled old man scatters the vultures and gives his wife time to pick the baby up."What is it Ma?" the old man asks his wife. "A sickly bear cub?" he ventures."No, Pa. It’s a newborn baby. See,” she says, pulling the blanket down. “Two arms and two legs. No fur. And look at this, Pa,” she says shaking her head with tears in her eyes, "her umbilical cord still attached."

And so begins the life of Max Arrins, an abandoned orphan whose extraordinary character eventually makes her a legend in Texas. She’s a modern-day hero, who defends the weak, takes care of her people and doesn’t take any shit!

Determined to join the Storm Kings, an elite group of linemen who put the lights back on after hurricanes and cyclones, she struggles fearlessly with man and nature to achieve her goal.

But when her ambitions are blocked, the "Wild Child" in her emerges, with disastrous results for her opponent. If Wild Child Arrins loves you holy, you're safe. Be kind to her and she'll be kind to you.

But hurt her or prevent her from getting what she wants… watch out.

The Wild Child unleashed is a force to be reckoned with; a force not bears, wildcats or even an entire crew of Storm Kings can handle.

A pretty good book. It seems Max Arrins was indeed a wild child. She was a great character to root for and connect with. An easy, sweet read.

Love you holy, wild child is an interesting story. The characters are well developed and draw you into their lifes. Lot of twist into the minds and reasoning behind the growing up style. Max was a genius and mature ahead of her age.. This is a real page turner.

This is a very different story. It is written as an autobiography by the Wild child herself, telling her story from the age of 14 to 17 in great depth. Max also explains her origins, as she knows them, and some details of her life after 17, but the bulk of the story covers the period of her adoption to her marriage.
Her origins and early life are heart-rending and sad beyond belief, and yet you believe the story as it is so well told. The desperate poverty of small land holders with debts and mortgages reliant on their crops to provide their income.
The characterisations of this strange breed of humanity - Texans - are excellent, as is the use of colloquial language and idioms. I thought that the character of the Judge was lovely, and Ben was believable as someone who could ‘tame’ the Wild Child.
This novel kept me turning the pages and wanting to know more about the Storm Kings and yes, the song - The Witchita Linesman’ kept running through my head!

This is a very well written novel about a young Texas gal, Max "Wild Child" Arrins and her life. It details how she came into the world, becomes the daughter of Ma and Pa Arrins and how she takes care of her elderly parents up until their untimely death.

From the start we learn how she auditions for the Foster Care families and how she develops a very loving relationship with good ol Judge Jerome Owens aka Oh Honorable One, Keeper of the Courtroom, High Holiness, Religious Honor, His Holy Optimist which were just a few of the names that Max had for him. I truly loved the relationship that Max and the judge had, On several occasions she tended to him when he was sickly. This proved to be a great friendship as well.

Max truly had one main desire and that was to become a Storm King and she would do just about ANYTHING to accomplish this. ( and she did) In between her "auditioning" she would read and study the Electric Company manuals and even take the test and grade them. She would show those to the judge as proof that she was capable to become part of the Storm Kings even though she was just 15 years old.

After much searching, the Judge found someone that was willing to adopt Max. His name was Ben Fraizer. He had a family of his own, a daughter that has passed at a young age and a wife that had passed of a heart attack not long after that. Ben just happen to be the Storm King Boss.

To make a long story short, after several months Ben was able to adopt Max and not only that but ol Max was able to prove herself as a superior linesman and was able to join the Storm Kings and later became the Electric Company Crisis Management Boss.

Max has so many stories to tell that this book is filled up with her adventures as a Storm King and the Crisis Management Boss. She fights for those she loves, takes on bears as well as wild jaguars. She falls in love, she loses her homestead, makes lifelong friends and becomes a multi millionaire.

This is a wonderful story. I loved every minute of it and I truly hated to see it end. I feel like I became friends with Max along the way and was along for the ride on her many adventures with the Storm Kings. I hope that there is a sequel somewhere up the creek.
Love you Holy Max!!!

This is the story of a strong woman who is abandoned as a baby and shifts her way through social service homes and finds the man she loves. From early on, Max Aarons is determined to join the Storm Kings. They are an elite electric line repair group that helps in disasters. When she's determined she calls on her inner wild child to help her get through the tough times. But now she's married and a mother. When wild child is determined to go help with a major disaster will her husband and children still be waiting for her. This is a story of a unique woman. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
