What a clever and entertaining book.
As with any good read for young people it is voiced as kids act and talk. Furthermore, the 3 main characters in he narrative are children themselves.
I’m a sicker for good time travel and it is this ability that opens up the adventure here.
It also has its impetus in those difficult questions children ask and their desire to earwig adult conversations or in this instance become a fly on the wall.
Thus the concept is formed and this book is the first of what is likely to become a successful series.
Not only is it fun, exciting and full of adventure the story has deep emotional aspects and scope for adults to learn from their children and for kids to gain understanding and empathy for adults especially loved ones in their family.
Beyond that it is a educational joy. With book group type question about the text not in terms of comprehension but in understanding life and behaviour in general. Entering the world of flies it has a science dimension that is both fascinating and not suitable for reading around mealtimes.
Finally in buzz words we see the benefits of writing with style and flair to use words that will enlarge and increase comprehension. This is the mark of all good literature and deserves a place in young adult and children’s books. The words are listed; you can refresh them in context and find your own sense of meaning. No answers here, you will comprehend or learn by talking with others or reaching for a dictionary.
Sorry forgot there is also aspects of geography and history thrown in. A book that no parent could not want their kids to read. A grown-ups dream!

This was a really interesting book with a different take on time travel. Griz, Sam, and Alisha are best friends and practically family. I liked each of their personalities and how they differed from one another. Griz is compassionate yet realistic, Sam has a vivid imagination, and Alisha is supportive and adventurous. This story was a cool journey of discovering why Griz was given her name, but it was also really sad to learn of Griz’s mother’s childhood. I liked that the author imagined what it was like to be a fly from a human’s POV. I also enjoyed that the book included the life cycle and anatomy of a fly to where it would be easier to understand for younger readers. While this book wasn’t what I was expecting it was still a great short story and I’d love to go on other adventures with the Timeflies, but hopefully they’re more upbeat and lighthearted.

'Timeflies' has got to be one of the finest short stories I've read so far. The plot is very interesting and I loved the concept of the characters traveling back and forth in time disguised as houseflies. Of course, I'm gonna spare you the details now. You really have to pick up the book and experience the magic of it by yourself. It's packed with so many emotions and its one of those books which would make you contemplate about your life long after you're done with the book. There is so much to learn from the story and the way Grizelda matured throughout the story was penned beautifully. I really wouldn't hesitate to buy this book once it hits the bookstores near me. It's totally worth it.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGally for providing me with an electronic review copy of this book.

I actually really enjoyed this. This book managed to make me cry a couple of times, but don’t worry, it’s not a sad book.

This is a cute middle grade adventure with a lot of interesting facts about flies and revelations about family that felt completely natural and enjoyable. This would be a great book for parents and kids to read together.

I’d happily read the rest of the stories in this series.

Timeflies was fun reading that caught me from page one. I taught middle school for almost ten years and would have been glad to share this title in my classroom — it is inviting and energetic, fanciful writing that entertains for youth (and I enjoyed it as an older reader).

TIMEFLIES is a short but nevertheless cute book perfect for the middle-grade audience. I mean, it's about three clever, adventurous, and thoroughly likable time-traveling kids disguising themselves as FLIES. What more could you want? Going in, I expected a lighthearted romp, but this book is a lot more emotional and complex than I gave it credit for, especially concerning Griz.

While reading, I found a lot of things that make TIMEFLIES unique. I loved family and friendship dynamic in it and it is a funny, entertaining, bittersweet, and informative story all in one—the perfect book to read with your loved ones. If I had one complaint, I'd say that the biology content and the writing, in general, might be a bit too complex for younger readers, but if you are between the ages of 7-10, go ahead and pick this one up.

How I read this: Free ebook copy received through NetGalley

A sweet, touching little story and I loved it. I know the kid me would have also loved it!

Grizelda often wonders why she's been given a fairytale stepsister's name. Or why her parents never pay any attention to her, always leaving her alone while they work or text on their phones. And one day, there's suddenly a way to find out. Or rather, she doesn't believe that's a way, but indulges her friends - because they claim they've got something that'll enable them to time travel - as flies - and who would believe that? Turns out, it's true. Also, turns out, the story of her name is pretty touching and life changing for her and her family.

The story was really so sweet! The idea of kids learning something valuable from time travel and using it for that purpose solely was also very nice. The story was short and now I'm wishing I had a sequel. I really hope I get to read one when it comes out.

Oh, and there was a lot of trivia at the end! Like the anatomy of a fly, facts about the cities in the story and even a little list of words used in the story that kids should look up if they want to enrich their vocabulary. This is a great book for both native English speaker kids as well as kids learning the English language.

I thank the publisher for giving me a free copy of the ebook in exchange to my honest review. This has not affected my opinion.
