This book reads more like a highly intriguing YA than a romance and is definitely a worthwhile read. Senth is a master thief in training and wants nothing more than to be like his adoptive dad. His half brother, Khyff, is a slave and has been since a very early age. Khyff has revenge on his mind, believing that Senth is the reason his life has been so miserable but once the brothers met, an unbreakable bond is formed. If you are a more conservative reader, don’t be scared off by the cover. I’m not sure if there are graphic scenes in the other books in the series, but this one is a light read that will stimulate the mind and warm the heart, not heat up the blood. The heartwarming scenes between father and son were the best to me, although I can’t wait to see how the relationship between brothers pans out. It’s hard to pick a favorite because they are both so charming in their own way, but if pushed, I’d have to lean on Khyff. His backstory is much more tragic. I’m looking forward to what this author will do next.

I enjoyed reading this book. It gives me the vibe of a teenage girl feel with the cute main protagonist. I love the concept about the thief guilds and how it will be under their point of views with a new government system. The anticipation of the brother wanting to seek revenge for being born and the blame that he was the caused of what happened to him and the other brother who tried to help him didn’t even see it coming. I liked the father figure being portrayed in the relationship with his adopted son, cute. This is a good novella before reading the series.

This story is a pale rendition of the Twilight Saga minus the werewolves allies and the vampire war.
