A fabulous book for anyone who grew up with "James Herriott", who enjoys the Yorkshire Vet, or who has a yearning for Yorkshire!
Peter Wright is the lead vet on the TV series "The Yorkshire Vet" and the way the book is written is just as if Peter is sitting opposite you having a chat. He brings the landscape, the people & the animals to life and it's fascinating to hear of his interactions with Alf Wight (the "real" James Herriott). It's quite easy to dip in & out of - you feel as though you'll meet up again with Peter tomorrow for another cup of tea & reminisce!

There are moments of sadness, and a sense of nostalgia for the way things were, but these are mixed with humour, joy & passion for his job

A wonderful book, part history and partly Peter reminiscing about his life in and around the lovely market town of Thirsk and the picturesque landscape.
A Wonderful description of the local people and memorable stories of his time as a vet. A fascinating read, not only for fans of the popular tv show, but for anyone who loves Yorkshire!

We begin with an introduction to the Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, a big agricultural event that’s been ongoing for over 150 years. Mr. Wright mentioned Amanda Owen, The Yorkshire Shepherdess, who attended and was a guest speaker. I’m a fan of her books as well.

What attracted me to the book was the setting and author being a veterinarian in the Dales. Peter Wright was a Vet trainee with Alf Wight and Donald Sinclair (James Herriot and Siegfried Farnon) something I didn’t know until I started reading this book. He also has a television show! The Yorkshire Vet is a program I was unaware of until I read this book and yes, it seems I am living under a rock some days when I discover an old show.

The observations and comparisons to present day and what life was like decades ago was also very interesting to me. Fishing is a pastime our author and his brother enjoyed very much. The observation that many of the today’s youth don’t have that opportunity as they are living in cities and are so used to iPhone, Xboxes and that electronic distractions.

I found the story about finding centuries old coins fascinating. A pair of brothers were digging up a piece of their farmland, leveling it off when they discovered a broken ceramic jug and coins. It’s a great story and fabulous discovery. After these old treasures were dug up they ended up in a museum. This is after a court decision. If I am ever visiting near York’s Castle Museum I will certainly want to view the display of coins and old papers.

Much thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. Publication date is January 17, 2020. If you enjoy reading about veterinarians, Yorkshire or loved the James Herriot stories you will like this book.

What a charming man, in print as well as on the TV. The stories told were engaging and gave a real insight into the Yorkshire of today and also in the days of Alf Wight. A fabulous read.

I'm a huge fan of the Yorkshire Vet and of Peter Wight, this is his second book I read.
I was more than happy to get this ARC as it's a lovely, well written and interesting book and I couldn't help picture the places and the people while I was reading.
It was great to learn more about Mr and Mrs Green, my favorite people from the show.
I love the style of writing and the storytelling as much as I like to read about the small stories, Mr Wight/Herriot and the Yorkshire.
It was a pleasant and entertaining read, highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Thank you NetGalley and MirrorBooks for a digital ARC of this book.

As a Yorkshire born lass now living in the south west of the UK, who grew up watching All Creatures Great and Small and enjoys watching the Yorkshire Vet, this is a great book.

When reading this, I could almost hear Peter telling me all about the Yorkshire folk, animals and sights. Definitely a great book to gift to family and friends (and yourself) at Christmas. I will be buying a copy as a gift too.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity for review. My review opinion is my own. I grew up with the "Herriot" books and TV shows so I was thrilled to receive this for review. This is such a charming wonderful armchair trip through Yorkshire that I highly recommend it for your reading enjoyment.

Beloved Yorkshire Vet Peter Wright takes us on a trip through the Yorkshire he loves. Peter trained under Alf Wight and Donald Sinclair- the real James Herriot and Siegried Farnon of Yorkshire. He tells us of his travels through the back country, small villages and of the people of Yorkshire that are so endearing. He writes of his younger days, reminiscences fondly and leaves you the reader with the feeling that you do know the true Yorkshire. He writes with love of the many animals he has treated and the loving kindness of the owners who welcome him into their homes to share meals and a hearty drink. He has incorporated some humorous moments as well as heartfelt experiences. He writes beautifully of the culture, the food, the terrain and the history of Yorkshire through his eyes.

I truly loved this book and felt it was as if I was transported through Yorkshire. A wonderful read.
