Description

New city. New job. New life.

Recently divorced single-mom, Sierra Torres’ life is a hot mess. And now, her car’s been stolen. When she reports the theft, a tall and broad-shouldered blast from her past walks in. Years ago, he disappeared without a trace after a perfect seven minutes in heaven.

The provider. The supporter. The survivor.

Police officer Matthew Hunter lives to serve and protect, not only the people of Baltimore City, but what’s left of his family. He’s the responsible one—the reliable cop. Seeing Sierra again ignites a fire in him he thought he extinguished a long time ago. One look into her fiery brown eyes and it all comes back. But Sierra's not interested in romance—just a little fun.

However, hearts have a mind of their own. Feelings deepen each time they see each other. Soon, that’s not enough. They crave more. But when things begin to unravel after their past catches up with them, are their seven minutes in heaven over for good?

New city. New job. New life.

Some Morning by J.L. Lora is the second book in a stand alone series of books starting with Some Nights featuring Jax and Saona this book is for Matt and Sierra. They both were childhood friends together until both of Matt's brothers cause his family to flee to New Jersey. Until a Sierra's car is stolen and the officer that is sent is Matt.

Sierra not only got rid of her cheating husband and she's working as a accountant for her sister's boyfriend. Having her car stolen wasn't in the plan though when she sees Matt again who's now a cop they both wonder if there could be something more. But Matt has a lot of family responsibilities taking a huge portion of his life but it will a sassy Sierra and her kids Eddie and Emmi to show him that he can have his own family again. But don't think that Sierra's mother won't put her two cents in as well as the final conversation with her ex-husband will have you saying "Yay, Sierra! I hope Dahila Wicker (Matt's partner) and the handsome doctor get their own book.

A great read from a new author to me. I loved how Sierra and Matt were not perfect characters. They had human foibles and vulnerabilities which made them more real. And when they get together, prepare for steam. There were some interesting ethnic references that I have not encountered before but thoroughly enjoyed. And here I thought Asian mothers were the masters of manipulation! Sierra’s mom was almost villainous. I’m hoping Matt’s police partner gets a story next!

I had not read anything by this author, but really enjoyed this story and will definitely check out her other books. Sierra Torres divorced her cheating husband and is raising their young children, Emmi and Eddie, on her own. Her ex has remarried with a child on the way and seems to have forgotten about his other children. When her car is stolen, Officer Matthew Hunter, a former childhood friend arrives to take the report. He is immediately interested in reconnecting with Sierra and soon proves that he is good for her and the children. They see each other in the mornings when the children are in school, but that doesn’t stop her disagreeable mother from objecting to his presence. Matt has his own family issues. Should he stay away from Sierra for her sake and the children? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
