A wonderfully fun read for everyone! Aimed primarily at middle-grade readers, this is a great adventure for anyone who enjoys tales of ghosts and the spirit world. Abby, Toby, and Billy run their own detective agency with the help of their adult Medium Arthur Monsento (who is always grumpy!). This is not just any detective agency - this is a detective agency for ghosts. The adventure is well constructed as the children and Arthur navigate their own world and the UnderWorld, including the bureaucracy and politics that go with the spirit realm! The children are all well constructed and genuine. The point of view is split between Abby and Monsento, which makes for interesting reading, especially when they are pursuing different leads. Occasionally, it is difficult to tell at the beginning of a chapter who is telling the story, so be prepared to point younger readers in the right direction if they need a quick helping hand. One of the wonderful things about this book is that it is part of a series, so if you have not read (or bought for someone else) the other books, I would definitely suggest starting at the beginning to see the founding of the detective agency and their early adventures. The character development and their relationship change and expand with each story, so dive in!

A good easy read about a medium and three teenagers who run a detective agency for ghosts. Although this book stands alone, I think it would have been better for me to have read the other books in the series as the characters are already all settled and we don’t get any background other than very briefly.

However this didn’t ruin the book for me as it does stand alone, and it was a good easy fun read.

3.5-4 stars

This was a fun little adventure that felt kind of like Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys meets Rick Riordan. I believe it's the third book in the series, but there's enough asides and back explanation that it's okay if you haven't read the first two (I haven't). This is fairly well written and edited and the story held my attention throughout. The mythology aspects felt somewhat superficial, but I think it worked fine for a middle school book and I enjoyed getting to know some of the characters. The point of view shifted between the medium, Mr. Monsento, and Abby, one of the three kids running the detective agency. I always had to pause a bit to make sure I knew who was narrating and I think it would have been helpful to have some sort of indication of whose story it was going to be, but overall, it wasn't too bad. I rounded up because I enjoyed the ending and it makes me want to read more stories from this series.

Interesting read and probably for a younger age group, not my usual type of book, having said that it was quite a good story, well plotted and complex.
As the description says "a little Hardy Boys of Nancy Drew" meets the paranormal detective.

Young teens will enjoy this paranormal series. This is book 3 in the Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency series and can be read as a stand alone. If you have readers at home looking for something different this is a good time filler. A ghost wants the trio of young detectives and their Medium friend to find her ghost brother who has disappeared. Now they are being held prisoner. Many Ghostly friends help out. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

It was en enjoyable read. The characters had enough backstory to form them in your head, complete with mannerisms, and dress. And who doesn't enjoy a decently laid story in a very saturated genre. This was just something different, and refreshing. Kudos to the author.

It's a good fun read!

It's about a new adventure with three 13-yesr-old sleuths, Abby, Billy and Toby, whose detective work takes them into the realms of the paranormal, along with their grumpy grownup medium, Arthur Monsanto.

To begin with, they are asked by a spectral acquaintance to track down the possession of another ghost, only to find out that someone is collecting pure spirits on glass phials. By the rules of the underworld, definitely illegal. Now with an undead ally, the bureaucrats from beyond the grave who give permissions for such ventures, allow the agency to track down who is responsible. And they are going to need all their wits not to end up getting trapped somewhere they would rather not be on the process.

Things start off a little slow, but then the adventure does become a little more gripping. The narration slips between Abby and Monsanto, which at times can be a little confusing. The humour centers mainly around the pre-pubertal spats between Abby and the boys, though there is the sense that soon the meh attitude to the opposite gender will become something more complicated. At the moment though, it is not so much Nancy Drew and Harvey boys, but more a Blytonesque world of lashings of lemonade and ice-cream after each supernatural adventure. Meanwhile, the supernatural characters, also seem to be well rounded, in a fantasy-game kind of way.

Young people from 12-up should find plenty to enjoy here.

This book is part of the Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency series by D.L. Dugger. In this book, Abby, Toby, Billly, and Medium Arthur travel to the Underworld to find a missing ghost.

I thought this book was very good. It was nice to have the Agency be able to see the Underworld. It was very easy to read since it was for a younger audience.

The cover excited me when I saw the story. This story is about three children running a detective agency with an old man that is cantankerous. Abby, Toby, and Billy are the head honcho’s at the detective agency, and they lead by clues to find out the mysteries that arise. With a sister trying to find here brother that has since departed the natural world. The Author is new to me, and I enjoyed this mystic read. I highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed The Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency. The characters were well written and the storyline was fun and engaging. The story is about three teenage detectives and their Medium, Arthur. They are looking for a missing ghost named Joseph and in the process of trying to locate him, stumble across an UnderWorld mystery. The whole UnderWorld storyline is really interesting and has some great characters. The only drawback for me was that since I had not read any of the other books, at times I felt like I did not know what was going. I felt I was missing out on something about a character that may have happened in an earlier book. Anyway, it is a great read and I look forward to reading the other books in the series. I love the author's writing style.

The Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency
And the case of the missing ghost
by D.L. Dugger
This is book three in the series and I hadn't read the first two books but it didn't stop me from enjoying it. No big spoilers were revealed but enough information was given to help me to follow along.

This book has a group of three teen friends and an adult that is a medium that work to solve ghost crimes! This adventure a ghost is missing her brother who was haunting a house, but now he's gone! He isn't in the OtherWorld where she is and she is worried.
This case takes them to hell and back, literally, and what a ride it is! Very imaginative and the characters are so realistic young teens that I want to roll my eyes! Yep, teens! It's a clever book with friendships, trust, and the Afterlife!

This is a teen book but I enjoyed the companionship the group shares and the many otherworldly characters. I think most adults will like the clean, fun, action packed adventure.

I received this book from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley.
I enjoyed the book so much I bought the book for my grandkids before I even finished reading it.

The Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency: and the Case of the Missing Ghost – whew that is quite a title! Really what lured me in was that last part ‘Case of the Missing Ghost’. Ghost go missing? Really? This I need to see for myself.

Tweens Abby, Toby and Billy, and their Medium Mr. Monsento run a detective agency for the supernatural. The OtherWorld spirit realm hires the gang to look into a ghost that has disappeared from a local house he’s been haunting. As the investigation begins, they find more than one spirit has gone missing. In fact, it appears someone is collecting spirits. While the where is pointing to the UnderWorld the questions of the who and why remain to be seen. The Agency finds themselves on an adventure to the secretive black market and to a tall dark tower in a desolate valley. Danger everywhere they need to get in and find out who is kidnaping ghosts before it’s too late for everyone.

Let’s start with I am jumping into the series, which I missed in the first place it was a series, at book three. Okay, no big deal. There were a few things I missed out on that were probably covered in previous titles. They didn’t feel like major plot issues, but they still made me curious. Second issue: this book is probably also intended for a younger crowd. Younger meaning more for a middle school reader. Oops! No matter. It still made for an entertaining read even for an older person like me.

This was a cute, fun little mystery. I’m much more use to sinister and scary stories so actually enjoy something without all the heart stopping fright was a delightful surprise. Not to say there was any bad characters or plot twists because, after all, someone is kidnapping spirits. It’s all the situations that the four main characters went through and endured to finally solve their mystery I got a kick out of. There are quite a few additional characters to sort out besides Abby, Toby and Billy, and Mr. Monsento. Zeaflin, Vila, and Ambrogio are entertaining and add a certain level of levity that I enjoyed. And then there is Razuul. Hmmm…I can’t decide if he is the big bad or just an added dark presence.

If I had one complaint about the book it would be the constant switching POVs between Mr. Monsento and Abby that confused me. There’s no announcement of duel POVs and the unannounced switching back and forth I found confusing. That is until I realized the story is being told from both Mr. Monsento and Abby. I like my mysteries to be the plot and not the voice of the story. Still, this was a good story for middle schoolers that enjoy paranormals and mysteries. Definitely worth recommending.

Thank you, NetGalley for an e-arc of this book. I thought I would broaden my horizons and try reading a book geared toward younger readers. I found it was not to my taste. I do think the book was well written, but I don't think I am qualified to give it a fair review because I didn't quite enjoy reading at that age level.
