When things go wrong, and Sophy and her family are forced to leave Pendleton, Harry believes she has betrayed him. Determined to move on, he chooses a new wife. He tells himself that Lady Evelyn Rowe is perfect in every way, and they announce their engagement at a grand ball in Mayfair.

But on that very night, Sophy returns. Sophy has been in love with Harry all her life. She knows they are going to marry and live happily ever after, because Harry tells her so. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Whilst a simple, well-told story of young love, being torn apart by parental expectation, this seems so refreshing in the telling. Sophy Harcourt has loved Harry Baillieu since she was five and he, seven. Yet Harry is the heir to Pendleton Manor and his father has plans for him, and they don’t include the daughter of his estate manager. Yet as they reach their twenties, life has gone according to their plans. Sophy has been forced to leave Pendleton and live with her grandmother, waiting for Harry to come and marry her as he had said he would. Yet for three years, Sophy hears not a word, until she finds Harry is back in London and to attend a ball. When they finally meet, she finds that Harry is now engaged to another woman.
I found myself reading this book at breakneck pace, completely captivated by Harry and Sophy’s feelings for each other as they grow from young children to adults. The pain the comes from mistakes and lies, threatens to tear the couple apart and so I could not put this book down until I could find out if there was going to be a happy ending! I just loved Sophy’s grandmother and Harry’s brother, Adam. I am so looking forward to reading the next book in this series which follows Adam who is such a rogue.
I thoroughly recommend this book. It is definitely one to reread! I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The heir to Pendleton Manor, Harry Baiilieu and the estate manager's daughter, Sophy, have grown up together. Forming a close bond through the years, they've always known that they would be together...forever. The bond between them will be tested when Harry's father, Sir Arbuthnot will lie and cheat to keep them apart A villian you'll love to hate and a young couple who have loved each other forever and will finally fight for what they want.
An emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.

I quite liked this book! A delightful historical romance with a perfect balance of lust and love. Sophy & Harry we’re easily like-able characters and it’s refreshing to understand and experience their love without graphic descriptions. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved a few erotic romances but it’s nice to read one that’s just a bit tamer. I love the way it started, at the moment of truth and then backtracked to their youth and swiftly lead up to the moment. The plot was simple enough to understand and quite believable! I’m really interested in learning more about Adam, he seems like a good project. Bennett does an excellent job with her writing. It’s cohesive, not cliche and, it seems she’s very informed on the era because little details about that time find their way into the book!
