Description

A year ago I had woken up with no memory of who I was. No one seemed to know anything about me and for months the police investigated only to find nothing. The only thing I had was a necklace with the name Angela Starr.

The government gave me an ID with that name and let me enroll in a community college to get my GED. All the psychologists that they had examine me thought that would be best and going to school might jog some memories since they figured I was in my late teens. Well, it did, as I ran into a boy my age that I felt I knew, but before I could fully recover those memories, we found ourselves being chased into a portal that led to the other side of the universe.

But why did this other planet seem so familiar?

A really nice Science Fiction and Fantasy themed book and I guess who loves those genres will love this book. It's a quick read and book one of the series. The writing style is easy and good to read. The characters are interesting and it's a great story.

A Falling Starr is a YA SciFi tale of a young woman with amnesia and her journey to finding herself. This is a trilogy but reads as one story. I enjoyed watching Angela find her strength and courage to fight for what she believes in. An enjoyable escape.

So this is all 3 novellas of Fallen Starr put together in one book, and that's a good thing because it would be a crime to read these on their own.

The protagonist's amnesia is already an intriguing premise, with her only knowledge of the past being a name they found on her and an affinity for science, which of course she had no idea where it came from. Just add the mysterious atmosphere surrounding the protagonist and the people who might be following her and Bam!, hooked from the first pages.

Then Emmerich appears, a boy who our protagonist Angela feels she knows. Although, he doesn't seem to know her, even though she has vision like memories of him. And if you thought it wasn't exciting enough, just wait until they are chased and end up going into a portal to another world!

Great 1st person POV, very realistic when it comes to emotions and random thoughts, like a trip in someone's brain. Angela is a bit too naive and a little whiny, but I guess that is understandable in her situation. The amnesia thing was done very well by the author. You feel her confusion, conflicting feelings and fear.

There are parts where it seems like the author is holding our hand, leading us through the story as if we were children. I know a lot of people will enjoy it, but some of that repetitiveness to me was a bit annoying.

There is a great lesson to be learned here of not only believing in yourself, but looking to those who believe in you, instead of those you want to bring you down. This was such an incredible, fast-paced, action-packed sci-fi adventure, but too short in my opinion. Needed more of this goodness.
