Description

The precursor to this book, By Strength and By Guile is the story of a man who wins a very large lottery, buys a ranch in the Texas hill country and with the help of men and women he recruits along the way he builds a strong survival community. After a Coronal Mass Expulsion event wipes out most communications and the electrical grid, Iain MacKenzie leads the ranch and his people through many trials to survive and to help their fellow Texans. Some of the trials are just overcoming the obstacles of having lost modern conveniences. Some of the trials are dealing with people who use this natural event as a reason to exploit other people. Iain and his friends have to show both courage and leadership to overcome all the problems they face. As with any great trial, a person’s character shows with all their flaws and their good points on display. Great leaders are not perfect people and neither is Iain MacKenzie. He tries very hard to take the moral high ground but he too has his quirks and flaws. As people who try to take the moral high road, Iain and his friends will make both great enemies and great friends.
