Description

Violet is the princess of Neyr, the third of the Nine Realms of Amera. At least, she was until the day came when Violet was to demonstrate her abilities to the people and solidify her place in Ameran Society.
The citizens of Amera have extraordinary abilities, from living on the ocean floor to flying in the air. But no one can turn back time. Only the discovery of a thousand lifetimes may provide the key to her return home. When old enemies arrive on the shores of Neyr, distrust and prejudice resurface. Secrets begin to explode all around Violet, setting her world on fire, and those she loves fall victim to a terrorists' plan to eradicate their enemies. But Amera stands in their way, and with no mercy, the enemy is willing to go through the innocent to get what they want.

Violet turns to her best friend Lily, and a few unexpected new friends, who band together to save what they can of her realm, and the rest of Amera. But in the storm that has turned her world upside down, will Violet be able to overcome the nightmare of her past in order to save the future of everyone in Amera, and perhaps the world?

***** AJ Martinez  it was amazing

Ever finish a book too fast? That's what happened to me when I read this story told in an immersive world. I blazed thru this book and all the while dreaded coming to the end because I knew I would have to wait until book 2 came out to continue this epic journey with Violet and her friends. Great pace and so many raw emotions from these characters. You can definitely reread this book and enjoy it again!

***** Judson Walden it was amazing This is a fun, page turner. Easy to read. Really unique lore and world the writer has built. Leaves you wanting the next installment already. I really enjoyed the plot and love the characters. Can’t wait to see where it goes in the next book. Futuristic dystopian science/fantasy. It’s sort of a “coming of age” meets a Marvel super powers meets a sweet love story.

I was totally immersed in this book. I loved the twist on our future world, with the acquisition of genetically modified powers for humans to survive. The characters were well-drawn and the plot was both compelling and appropriately paced. When I got to the end, I was really disappointed not to be able to launch myself straight into the next book! A fantastic take on the dystopian genre; very unique!

Summary:
Violet Amplifen is the daughter of Royalty, with a loving and supportive family. Her beautiful nation is peaceful and the gifted citizens are prosperous. Life for Violet, while it has its ups and downs, is generally pretty good. When a devastating event involving a mysterious ability takes place and her world implodes, she does the only thing she can do- run for her life. Her journey leads her to something ancient. A forgotten piece of history, that will start to unravel secrets and change Violet’s world forever.

Review:
This book was so much FUN. Full of adventure, friendship, action, and the start of a sweet relationship – it was everything I wanted in a YA fantasy. What really sets it apart, however, was the imaginative world-building and rich history. Such a breath of fresh air. I’m honestly surprised more people aren’t talking about it.

What I liked:
I loved the backstory and history that we learn as the book unfolds. Although there were moments where it was a little exposition-heavy, the creative way it was told and the mystery of it made it incredibly interesting to me.

Hailey was a freaking riot.

The magic the citizens had was interesting, and I liked the division of the realms based on their gifts.

The friendships made between opposing sides were awesome. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will try to keep it vague, but I like that those bonds were made. Actually – all the friendships were done really well and were such a likable aspect to the story.

I loved the “voice” in her head and everything that followed finding out the truth. 😉

Also – I really loved the entire Ark setting. I could have spent SO much more time there uncovering all the secrets. MORE ARK.

What I didn’t like:
The beginning of the book was a little bit too dramatic for me. While it did the job of hooking me in to find out what had actually happened, the inner dialogue was a little bit too dramatic and redundant for my personal tastes. Once the story starts moving along and we set out on the adventure, this was quickly resolved and was a very small blip looking back.

Before you pick up this book, make sure you don't need sleep for a while! This is a wonderfully engaging novel that will keep you reading into the early hours of the morning. I honestly couldn't put it down. This is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, where the world has moved on far into the future from where we are now and humans have evolved through genetic engineering. It is a really charming story of a girl's struggle to grow up and face both her past and future, finding her own place in the world. The world is beautifully created, with a few remnants of our own world mixed in. It is a well-paced gripping story with characters you will fall in love with.

Power Divided was an amazing read. It took me a few chapters to get into the storyline but I'm so glad I stuck around, because then I kept reading and found it hard to put it down at all. I'm quite glad, that while some parts felt a bit too cliché, Behrens chose to go in a different direction as expected, especially regarding possible romances. It was so nice to read a fantasy book that didn't focus much on romances and instead tried to explain them through happening naturally, although it could be missed easily. Anyway, I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you Netgalley for providing me with this ARC.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I feel for Violet in this first book in the series. She so wants to fit into the society that she was born into and being a princess in one of the nine realms. The people are all magically talented and she wants to prove herself. When her powers go off the charts she runs and hides. That is a lot for anyone to take in. She finds things from the old world and she finds there are threats to the world she knows and loves. She calls the remade city of New York her home and its a wonderful story and it leave me wanting more.
