Description

A whisper of uncivil war…

Dr. Kate Winter’s gift becomes a sword. Her instincts don’t define the outcome, only the pathway. Surprise and shock follow.

Kate’s hunch about the president is part of the story. A Ph.D. in psychology, a doctoral thesis on the homicidal urge, her unique tool is a psychic gift she doesn’t understand.

From her power base in Washington, D.C., feelers go out. How deep was the president’s involvement? A delivery received from a source in the Middle East confirms her instincts, and the flash drive provides proof it’s worse than she imagined.

Kate and her unique investigative team decide to expose the president and his friends, who value women as commodities.

Rousing the alt-White network of President John Jefferson Richards. A wily enemy.

But what’s in the Nevada desert?

She’s stumped. The president’s ex-wife won’t talk. The female vice president’s shut out.

Kate’s faced diabolical murderers, but never the force of the presidency at the nexus of world power, debauchery, and greed.

The president’s plan was simple.

Use whatever you can. No matter the source. Get what you want.

No matter the cost.

A primal scream and a prayer.

The motive offers leverage: “To secure the existence of our people.”

The lure of savage power.

The story is interesting though the beginning was rather graphic. Dr Kate Winter has a Ph.D in psychology is sure the president should be removed from office but her organization needs proof. Richards is a man who has become president to use the office to his advantage. He has a secret place in the Nevada desert for secret meetings he does not want anyone to know about. Trying to keep track of the good guys and those who need to be exposed is not an easy process. Kate's team stays on it though.

Thank you NetGalley and to MM Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

"Citizen Kate" was a political fiction novel that has many parallels to what is happening in today's political environment. It had strong female characters, and it did highlight some of the plights in today's society as well. (i.e. How AA women are treated by the healthcare field and the dangers they encounter daily by being ignored by their physicians). Dr. Kate Winter was a memorable character, with her psychic abilities and her tenacity. I enjoyed a main character with her different qualities.

There was a lot of talk about previous administrations in the beginning. I think if I weren't an American or into politics, I would have not understood the references trying to be made. However, since I did understand them, I was more in tune to the corruption and deception of Richards.

The first two/three pages really drug me into this book. They were written so well. I kept waiting for something explosive to happen because of the "bang" from the first pages, but kept falling short until about chapter 22. I kept turning the pages in anticipation of another "bang", but the page turning did just become frustration.

Overall, this book is a 3, maybe 3.5 stars. It was well written with powerful women characters. I almost left this as a DNF, but I'm glad I kept turning the pages and gave it time. It was about halfway into the book to really hook me. However, once I was finally hooked, I could not stop. I just wished it could have happened sooner than later.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of the story.

Some people would say this book hits very close to our current poliical atmosphere - frightening characters running our country and one woman trying to stop the President's diabolical plans.

Kate is a strong, intelligent woman who leads a diverse private security team. Kate, her partner and team are out to defuse a narcissistic president who answers to no one and only has his own profits in sight.

The thriller l is fast moving and the characters vividly come to life. There are scenes of violence - not for the faint of heart. However, the violence is in place with the plot and isn't gratuitous.

An engaging thriller that is a fantastic read!! I look forward to reading more of this author.

This was a pretty good political thriller and Kate's job of being a psychic profiler and becoming the target of the President of the United States was a different approach. The book went at a good pace and held my interest for the most part.

This was a fast paced, engaging, political thriller! I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. Kate is a powerful character that I would like to have more stories about. I didn't like some of the violence in the book, but it made sense with the plot.
