Description

Ray Watts is recently—if not entirely happily—married. His art career is moribund and his heart just isn’t in his job writing zombie books. When his friend Jo brings her niece Faye to his struggling art gallery for a visit, he feels an instant spark.

His art career springs miraculously to life, and he’s enthralled with the tablet game Faye turned him onto. But there’s something strange about his new job, and, come to think of it, about that game too. Oh, and there are those local girls that have gone missing…

Soon everything Ray holds dear is at risk—his marriage, his new job and the people he loves.

The Girl in the Game is book three in the Ray of Darkness series. It also reads fine as a stand-alone.

Advance Praise

About the first book in the Ray of Darkness Series, Never Speak:

"John Manchester is a fluent and refreshing new voice in the world of thrillers, and in Never Speak he takes us on a fantastic ride. Manchester is down-to-earth and funny, and he's great at conjuring up the sights, sounds, and textures of his characters' world. But he also brings elements you don't often see in genre fiction: a distinctive musicality, a hallucinatory vision, and a deep, scary creepiness that surges in like an undertow, grabs you, and won't let go."

Faye, a friend of a friend, visits Ray's "dark" gallery. Faye meets Liz, Ray's wife. and downloads "Core Quest" -a game- onto Liz' iPAD.

After observing Ray's artwork, he is invited to work for Cyber Arts as an artist. This, at a high rate of pay. Also Ray is told in his contract - NOT to play the game - "Core Quest". He does play it and becomes obsessed with the game. Is he also obsessed with Faye? What will happen to Ray when/if he continues to play the game?

Also, a mysterious murder spree is in the mix...

I couldn't put this one down. HIGHLY recommend for those who are gamers or non-gamers!

Many Thanks to Amazon/Victory Editing and NetGalley for a great read.
