First allow me to say I am in no way an artist. My family and I have watched the Disney movie "Onward" and fell in love. When I sat down with my grandson to tackle this "Learn to Draw" adventure I was expecting to be a total failure and producing stick figures. I was surprise to find that with the easy-to-follow directions and illustrations both me and my grandson were able to produce amazing likenesses. A must have for your artist adventures.

What a fun book for young artists! This has great instructions for a beginner. It's not super in depth but it is also not overwhelming for a a child. It has just enough tutorials to be motivating and educational. Plus as a bonus it has beloved Pixar Onward characters. I mean what's not to love. This is the perfect gift for the young aspiring artist.

As stated above this is for beginners and is not an in-dept training aid. I highly recommend it though because it teaches all the foundation basics in a fun way.

I received this book from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for an honest review.

Learn to Draw Disney/Pixar Onward is a new booklet in the Learn To Draw series. Released 10th March 2020 by Quarto on their Walter Foster Jr imprint, it's 64 pages and will be available in spiral-bound format.

Although ostensibly aimed at young artists (6+ years), there is a lot of really fun and accessible information here for artists of all ages and levels of experience. The simple and appealing step-by-step line drawn tutorials will help with confidence building and technical expertise.

The introductory content covers tools and supplies (an admirably short list), tracing and outlining, using the grid method, and basic shape drawings. The background drawings on all the pages are adorable and full color (see cover).

The tutorials (12 different, with lots of characters in various combinations) are 2-10 pages each of clear step by step drawings to achieve a recognizable fantasy based elf character along with a stable of supporting creatures (the derpy unicorn slays me every time). This would make a really lovely rainy day activity or library group activity for young kids. This would also make a really great parent/caregiver/babysitter activity for anyone with a youngster in their lives. Drawing together with your kids makes a lot of great memories.

Very cute book. Good practice for all beginning artists, no matter what age.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

QUICK TAKE
Learn to Draw Disney/Pixar Onward is an easy to follow, unique art experience that is perfect for beginner and advanced artists alike.

TELL ME MORE
I have long been a fan of Walter Foster Jr.’s Learn to Draw books, and I was ecstatic when an edition for how to draw the characters from Onward was released. Onward is the newest movie from Disney/Pixar, and it has been released early on digital video and Disney+ as a special gift during this time of self-isolation. If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it! It is unique and it made my heart melt.

Walter Foster has released a plethora of Disney Learn to Draw books under their Walter Foster Jr. line, but I find that these books are excellent for all ages, especially Onward. The drawing exercises in this edition were particularly challenging, even with step by step instructions, and it helped me to expand my artistic skills. But this book is so much more than just drawing exercises – it provides the reader with additional insight into the characters and story of Onward to allow the reader to dive deeper into the making of this beautiful movie. The baseline techniques this book teaches the reader also allows for additional creativity as the reader can begin to draw their own characters utilizing their newly learned skills. This book is perfect for providing hours of entertainment while you are stuck at home as well!

If you are a fan of Onward and drawing, then I highly recommend Learn to Draw Disney/Pixar Onward. This book brings with it additional insight into the movie as well as challenging drawing exercises with step-by-step instructions to make learning to draw easier. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as an advanced artist, and I am positive that artists of every level will enjoy and benefit from Learn to Draw Disney/Pixar Onward.racters from Disney/Pixar's "Onward"

This book is good for children with slightly more advanced drawing skills, as each step in the step-by-steps actually includes several mini-steps. However, it's also a good book for more novice children to do some tracing for muscle memory if desired. Contains all the primary characters.

My daughter just watched Onward when it released to Disney+, so imagine how excited she was to look at this book! It helped her draw some of the most popular characters. Especially now staying at home, this is keeping her busy!

Having only seen the trailer for the film the characters looked really designed and interesting I’m now attempting to give it a go my self and draw the characters from onward.

Awesome book! It allows the reader to go from a simple drawing of lines and circles to a complicated drawing. I like how colorful it is and the little descriptions are cute and they give enough for me to identify with the characters. I will recommend this to my kids in class and my family and friends.

Thanks NetGalley!

Superb for the fans of new Disney film and was great fun to follow the simple step by step. Both my daughter and I enjoyed this and it quite easy to follow, clearly from our pictures we are no masters but the end result is far better than us just trying to copy an image freehand

We just watched Onward recently and once I saw this book I thought why not? It gave my son easy steps to be able to draw the characters. He was the best one to be able to 'review' this book. He said it was cool and we look froward to buying it to enjoy more fun family drawing time.

Alongside character is described as role played by character in the movie.

This is a fun way to learn to draw Disney characters. This is a great 64-page book showing how to draw characters from the movie. The steps are easy to follow. Readers/artists also learn about the characters from the movie so whether you have seen the movie or not it is a great book. The format is wonderful. This book also provides information on the tools you need as well as the supplies. Everything and all the steps you need are available.

Even without training, the reader can draw cute animated characters!

This is my third “Learn to Draw” book. All of them come with step-by-step instructions to draw the characters. By following each picture as the drawing progresses, it is fun and easy to make popular, recognizable figures.

I love these books!

Easy to understand. Perfect for beginners and pros. Truth be told I'm a horrible artist, but this book has allowed me to decorate everything we own with Onward goodness!

The coronavirus may have relegated Disney-Pixar's latest to streaming services over a theatrical release, but the Walter Foster Jr. Creative Team has scored another winner for fans of Pixar's newest animated classic with this full-color, fully-illustrated and thoroughly fleshed-out, step-by-step guidebook for creative kids. Even the youngest artists, here, should be able to flesh out a reasonable likeness of Ian, Barley, Blazy, the Manticore - all their favorite characters from New Mushroomtown featured in their favorite new movie, Onward. Starting with a list of easy-to-get tools and art supplies the kids can put together with a grown-up, each child can then easily flip to their favorite and, starting with a few simple lines, bring that character to life on paper. Walter Foster how-to arts and craft books have been around a lot of years; it's nice to see, once again, that the "junior team's" current crop of books for young artists are just as inspiring and creative as the classics; this one should keep its readers busy, and creative, for hours. 4.5/5 stars
