Description

It was supposed to be the start of their lives, not the end.

After a tragic accident as teenagers, Jensen Owens and Autumn Miller find themselves miles apart but fate would soon have other ideas. Jensen returns to the place he ran away from, but he is not the man he once was. He struggles with something that no one can see, a secret that could forever take him under.

Autumn Miller was at a crossroads in her life. She had long since faced the past, or so she thought. That is until Jensen comes back. As their lives begin to intertwine, something, or someone, comes back from the past. Someone who should no longer be there.

Jensen and Autumn will be faced with a hard decision, one they may not be able to walk away from. They say that the past is the past. But sometimes, you have to go back in order to move forward.

It was supposed to be the start of their lives, not the end.

Advance Praise

"New Apple Award for Excellence

A perceptive, ghostly take about two loves struggling to find their way.

This is a sensitive story about fairly young people who are trying to rebuild their lives. The novel excels at showing how they wrestle with their personal demons, which in Jensen’s case have become all-consuming. This is a convincing setting in the story with enough room for romance and a touch of the supernatural."

I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. I felt this book was so honest about how one tragic event can mess you up and how it changes you. The author tells the story of Jensen and Autumn when they were a teenager, one tragic event changed them and how it affected them through life. When they meet again, they finally know how the other is doing which is another insight and they try to help each other. It is a rough road they have to face and go down. From the start of the book to the end, I just think the author was just so honest about what happens to someone when they have to face their demons, how hard it is, setbacks they have to face, and how it affects their family and friends. It isn't a story about facts, it is the journey of two people and all they have to go through.
I think that this is a book everyone should read because you can get an idea of what someone with an addiction or something else will go through. In the book and in real life, people ask how do I help them? I think I found the honest answer in the book and I hope if you are reading this review, you will go and get the book and read it.

As children, Autumn, Jensen and Jake were the 3 musketeers and did everything together. One summer day at the lake as teenagers changed that. They got drunk and a tragic accident took Jake’s life. Jensen couldn’t handle the regret of that day and left town, Autumn stayed and rebuilt her life.

10 years later, Jensen is back and trying to escape the demons of that day. He drinks to put the memories out of his mind and move forward. Autumn is there to help him pick up the pieces and move forward from what happened. They both see Jake in their dreams and struggle with what happened. Is Autumn’s love and friendship enough to help Jensen get over things? Will she get through to him?

This story will take you through the journey as Jensen overcomes the loss of a friend from a tragic accident, a friend that still haunts him as he tries to move on. He returns home 10 years later to those he left behind and tries to pick up the pieces. The story is told back and forth from Autumn and Jensens perspective. This book is labeled as a mystery/thriller novel and is different than most others I’ve read of that genre (my favorite). I could not stop reading to see what happens and read this book in a day.

5/5 would recommend reading this book from Katt Rose

This is one of the most honest and raw books I have ever read.
One horrific accident from their teenage years, shapes the lives of Autumn and Jensen for the next 10 years.
A journey of how different people cope with tragedy, which had me absolutely sobbing towards the end of the book.
Absolutely fantastic book - have never read a book like this before but I loved every second.
Thankyou netgalley for giving me the chance to read something I never normally would go for.

What an emotional, heartwarming story this was! Though it was hard to read at times, I am glad I stuck with it. Childhood friendships are some of the most important you make in your life, and losing a close friend would be heartwrenching. This is one book that I read this summer that I will not soon forget. Kuddos to Katt Rose for this well written novel.

This book was so raw and so emotional. I never should have read it at work but oh well it was too good to stop. It’s been a long time that a book grasped at my heart strings. This was so beautiful. I typically don’t reread books but I feel the need to feel the emotions again. Building it up really builds your own emotions up. I truly hope Kat Rose continues autumn’s and jensens journey.

Building it Up was full of an aftermath of a terrible tragedy between 3 friends. the struggles they all faced and how it left scars that needed time to heal. So full of twists and turns I never saw coming. It had some surprises that were entertaining and kept you guessing how was it going to end.

This was such a great book! It all comes together beautifully! Characters are very relatable, as is the plot. Although tragic, it's worth the read!
