Remnants of Atonement

A gothic tale on the dangers of obsession with the past. 

Kilco Escamilla is bored of the humdrum life she leads, and it's all thanks to the incident that shall not be named which still sends her tough as nails mother, Doctor Kira, running for refuge with a bottle of whiskey at the merest mention. 

When her mother receives a request to become the royal physician in the neighbouring Kingdom's war camp at the base of the Armoury, a colossal tree in which all of Ascot's races gather to determine their shared fate, Kilco is desperate for her mother to let her tag along.

 Once there, Kilco soon finds more adventure than she bargained for when an injured patient is brought to the infirmary. Kilco has to stay in quarantine with Ilya, a red-eyed assassin eternally indebted to Ascots Royal family, and the two soon become fast friends. Their relationship begins to change as Ilya heals and is preparing to leave the infirmary. Kilco is approached by a stranger who offers her a way to keep Ilya by her side forever. This sets off a series of events that will turn their lives upside down.
