Sunday school and family devotional times just got a bit more interesting! The book is stuffed full of clever experiments, fun facts and thoughtful explanations. I will certainly be using them for my classroom, but many of the projects are simple enough for elementary students to do on their own. Well-thought-out bible references and respectful nods toward religious themes make each page a great starting place for groups or individuals looking to learn more about God through exploring creation.
As a homeschool and unstructured curriculum teacher, I've read a lot of science books for kids. I was surprised and excited to see many projects I'd never come across before, all with step-by-step instructions that almost anyone can follow. Many of the projects are made with everyday objects that make it easy to get started right away. Although each project is clearly built with a particular scripture in mind, these activities could be modified for any exploration of the natural world, so people with or without particular religious affiliation shouldn't hesitate to open up this book. The pages are designed with approachable fun colors, pictures and illustrations, but the pages aren't too cluttered or patronizing. I can't wait to purchase this book to add to my collection of alternate educational ideas to help get my students excited about learning.

This is an assortment of simple science experiments loosely related to bible passages. Each one has materials listed and then the steps, sometimes with an illustration or photograph of the actual experiment but generally just with stock photos of related things (rainbows, kids blowing bubbles, etc.). Then there are bible quotes, a paragraph explaining what happened scientifically, and a paragraph about how this is related to the bible.

In some cases the science explanations were a bit overly simplified, like saying oil floats because it is lighter than water (it floats because it is less dense) or saying that you can see your DNA with an experiment using saliva, salt and a few other ingredients. In other cases, it doesn't really explain much at all, like an experiment showing the principle "God protects you" where you peel a tangerine and leave another unpeeled, dropping them both in the water. It says for the science part simply: "The peel around a tangerine makes it float. It's like a life jacket!".

The book was originally in Dutch and appears to be translated and printed by a UK company. There were a few cases where I wasn't sure what the author was calling for, like an experiment that calls for "white spirit." My guess is that it means clear alcohol, but that's a guess.

My review copy turned out to be just a very short excerpt, so I'm unable to give a full review or recommend it wholly. From the table of contents, it appears that the first half of the book is for experiments showing ideas from the Old Testament, while the second half is for the New Testament. This book seems strong on faith but a little light on science. I would not recommend it as a part of a homeschool science curriculum other than for fun for very young kids, or as a fun supplement to a more rigorous science spine.

For Christian parents just looking for science experiments to reinforce biblical teachings, it will probably be a big hit. Do note that it does tend to require the purchase of materials but most of these are easy to acquire.

I read an excerpt of this book for review.

Science experiment books are always a hit in this house! This book is good, with colourful pictures and easy to read text. I like that there is questions about the experiments to get children thinking and discussing too. I think a Sunday club / Christian families would like this book because of the Bible quotes. Thank you for the opportunity to review the extract of this book.

I was really intrigued by this book, and whilst I am not in anyway religious I still wanted to give it a go and it was well worth it - I thought that the experiments that they have in the book are great, the introductions are easy to follow, they are fun and the photos and images are very clear.

It is 5 stars from me for this one - very enjoyable and very highly recommended!!

This was unique, a mix of science with Bible verses. The experimenrs in the book are ones grade schoolers will enjoy, so- I'm thinking it would be a good mix for Christian home schoolers ot parochial schools. The only draw back I could foresee was that the book seems to be geared to a British public as I ran into a few words that might puzzle Americans!

This is a novel idea and a great way to connect science to the Bible for children. The experiments presented may be used at home, church, or during other activities and presentations. The ingredients and equipment needed are easily accessible and with some practice there should be no difficulty with conducting the experiments.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book provided by the publisher and Net Galley. However, the thoughts expressed are totally my own.

What an interesting concept! I am reviewing an extract from a book of science experiments which have been linked to quotes from the bible - almost like using science as evidence for God's existence. I am curious at the cross curricular nature of this book - which also draws on other subjects like referencing Shakespeare's 'Othello'.

The experiments are well explained but I didn't see anything new that really piqued my curiosity. The text is in quite big chunks which could make it difficult to follow for some children.

I can imagine that it would work well in schools that are trying to teach across subjects but don't think this is something that would be popular in my library.

This is a great resource for Sunday School (Children's Church) and at home bible lessons. It gives some great hands-on activities with easy-to-follow instructions. I did find myself wishing for more pictures of the projects, but I couldn't tell if that was just a side-effect of the electronic version or a true representation of the book.

This book is great and it’s time is perfect for many kids being home schooled or learning by remote. I was looking for a way to supplement the remote program offered by my niece’s school while making learning fun. The experiments in this extract are perfect young kids 6-10. It uses everyday materials you are likely to have at home to teach about biology or natural science. It adds a biblical framework to each experiment that expands the learning experience for the child. The language used is easy to follow. The experiments are interesting and most can be completed in an hour with the longest in a couple of weeks at the most if you are growing a plant for example. The pictures are well draw and descriptive to help in providing direction. The Bible verses are concise but memorable.

I enjoyed this extract and would recommend this to any family homeschooling their children.

I liked this book very much. It will certainly be of great help for more dynamic classes in Sunday school, camping activities or for parents who want to explain valuable lessons to their children.
The beginning of the book gives you an explanation of how you should use it.
There are recommendations before using the experiments in classes and the ingredients are very accessible in other parts of the world.
According to the book's index, the chosen stories cover a wide variety from the Old and New testament. There is also an explanation of each experiment and how it relates to the story. Unfortunately I could not see the images in the copy that I received but It will not put me off to use it as an aid when teaching.
I would like this book to be translated into Spanish and to be of help to other teachers.
The opinions expressed are my own.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Lion Children's Bks for the copy.

OK, At first I am curious about how science goes with religion. Well, true, some of the events on the Bible can be explained through experiences, but not everything, and those I knew are the ordinary ones.

But this book explained God's love through science experiment: that He creates us to be unique, that He protects His creations, and He loves us dearly that He provides things for us. Experience yourself the great combo of science and Christianity!

Crackle and Pop is just what I, as a children’s Sunday School teacher/helper AND homeschool teacher have been looking for! Full of great science experiments with tie-ins to various stories/scriptures in the Bible, I can see myself heading to this book again and again as an addition way to drive home a Bible lesson. I am looking forward to getting a full copy once it is released!
