For younger children this is a wonderful book that not only introduces key concepts in equality but also provides child friendly explanations of these concepts.I love that the book covers such a vast range of areas including feminism, oppression, intersectionality, non-binary, LGBTQIA and the right to say 'no'. The book is warm, welcoming and appealing and draws the reader in through the use of bright colours, letters of the aplhabet in bold type (something the younger children will be familiar with) and the smiling characters of different race, colour, size and disability means that all children have the opportunity to see themselves within the book which will enhance their self esteem and sense of identity. Although the definitions might be challenging for younger children to read through and understand on their own, the book is well suited to use by the class teacher and/parents/carers and links especially well to the new RSE curriculum in schools.
For me, this book is an excellent resource for sharing with children the diverse world we live in and that everyone is unique and has their equal place in society.

A super cute book perfect for starting conversations about Equality. Each page and letter of the alphabet has a beautiful illustration and a small, simple but straight to the point explanation of a word that is to do with equality. For example some of the themes are race, gender, sexuality and disability as well as other. Very relevant for current times and as each piece has just a little writing it gives the opportunity to discuss further as much or as little that you feel appropriate and relevant to your child.

I really enjoyed this book and it is relevant to today. The book has some great images and they really help bring the book to life. It is definitely a book I will be sharing with my daughter when she is a little older and will understand the phrases, etc a little more. It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!!

This is a cute and informative book that's easy to read and very clear.

I love the colourful pages and illustrations that bring every page to life. The text is clear and easy to understand and will be great for younger readers.

This book would be a great starter for conversations with young readers as an introduction to certain topics. But I also feel like this would be good for any age group, although the writing is simplistic due to being aimed at younger people, the message is still the same and it would be a great way to start conversations with all ages.

I really enjoyed this thought provoking book. As an adult I thought the words chosen for the A-Z were interesting. The ideas inside the book are important and really reflect modern society as it currently stands.
As a teacher I would include this book in my classroom.
I feel that is book deals with some very complex issues, when reading with children it would definitely create more ‘Q for questions’ which would be great to explore. A criticism would be that some of the definitions are very complex so this wouldn’t ever be a read alone book.
I previously read the A-Z of Feminism and felt that it was more accessible/straightforward.
The illustrations in the book are wonderful, colourful and interesting.

This is a lovely little book which I think should be in every primary classroom. It is bright, colourful and has simple definitions linked to equality, such as gender, race, immigration etc.
It is a good starting point for conversations with children that should be happening.
I will definitely be purchasing a copy to share in school and with my own son.

'An ABC of Equality' is a heartwarming and informative nonfiction read for all of the young people in your life to help them learn and grow.

Full of beautiful illustrations, it's the perfect learning tool to introduce children to concepts they may not understand just yet, but will enable them to love people of all different identities.

This book is simply amazing. Beautiful striking and inclusive illustrations accompany the simple yet comprehensive definitions of important concepts in a way that is accessible and understandable to young children. As a parent and as a librarian I struggle to find books which are suitable for young readers and help parents to start conversations from a very young age. This book is a perfect example of how talking about important things does not need to be difficult and how we can start the conversations as early as possible. Plus, the illustrations are bold, perfect for catching the eye and maintaining the attention of younger readers.

In explaining how different people see each other in the world, what identity is and treatment of others, ABC of Equality takes us through an A-Z of ways to see the world and all the people in it.
'H is for HUMAN Being. We're all human beings because of abilities like standing, talking, laughing and pointing your finger. Even if we have different abilities we are all human beings.'
With simple explanations by Chana Ginelle Ewing and engaging illustrations by Pauline Morgan, this is a book needed for our time.

I thought this was a beautifully written and illustrated introduction to the terminology of equality offering a child, parent or educator a great starting point for a discussion of a concept, familiar or unfamiliar. I’m not usually a fan of A-Z typed information books as I feel they sometimes have forced entries where a letter doesn’t naturally offer an obvious link. Not so in this book, in fact there are several places where the alphabetical layout has enabled a deeper exploration of a term in the following letter. Each topic has room for only a short entry, but this means the information is not overwhelming. I think the style and accessibility would make this a very valuable title to have in any primary school library. I will certainly be buying a copy for my school.

This is a very educational and important book for adults, as well as children. The illustrations are beautiful and the writing is age appropriate for primary and secondary pupils, although the illustrations would lend themselves well to primary. I will definitely be purchasing for my classroom.

This book is a fantastic resource that I believe all children and adults should encounter. The vocabulary and definitions are simple and easy to understand and will definitely spark discussion and enquiry. Having children know the definitions and using vocabulary in the correct way will make huge changes to society. This book is a power for good that I would suggest is in every classroom or home.

This book clearly tackles a lot of important issues and it seems like a great way of opening discussions with your child. Some of the vocab would be hard to understand for young children so I think it is better suited to those who are at least 8 and above.

An ABC of Equality is a beautifully designed and well-constructed book that explains different terms that are important in the fight for equality. From sexuality, gender, and race, this story happily explains that everyone is different and each difference is valid.
