Mick Smith has been sober three years, but his wife Amy knows he can slip back into that old lifestyle with any temptation. Mick ignores her fear when he finds out that his best friend while in the Marines has passed away. Even if Harry wasn't that great of an influence at times, Mick is compelled to go to his funeral and pay his respects. While there he's told that the fountain of youth isn't too far away, but little do they know that water has become spoiled. Mick needs to figure out the secrets of Kate's Lake before more people are killed. Little does he know how much impact it would have on his own life.

Dang, I can't remember the last time I've read such a good story from a male veteran's point of view. This one leans more like a horror than thriller, but y'all know I love both!
As a side note - big shout out to @odle.author, the author, to thank you for your service.
The continuing issue of Mick facing past and present demons was a constant theme that stuck out meaningfully for me. The suspense isn't only finding out what's happening at Kate's Lake, it's also finding out what happened to Mick in the past, which Odle reveals with perfect timing later on in the book. This was a fast paced plot from chapter one, which if you've been following my reviews for some time now, is my favorite. The ending was satisfying even though I didn't predict it, but someone else seriously needs to read this so I have someone to talk to about it. How did Mick end up like THAT?!
