In 2014, an advert was posted on Craiglist: ‘Extraordinary True Stories Wanted – do you have a true, untold story you’d like to share?’ The response it received was short… but beyond anything imaginable.

A young man with a troubled past, James was imprisoned for 8 years, seemingly for nothing more than a contested cab fare. Living alongside the criminally and psychologically disturbed in the 300-acre fortress of a Mental Health Institute, James was subject to several invasive examinations and elaborate diagnoses, leaving him to question the soundness of his own mind.

It wasn’t until he witnessed first-hand others die within the confines of the Institute that he knew what he had to do: escape – and escape quickly.
