Description

Animal lover and rescuer, Skye Cross has always been able to communicate with them. She’s horrified that rescuing dogs from an illegal fight actually involves shifters. This leads her to Luc Lazare, a man whose powers both unsettle and intrigue her. Half-human, half-Kindred, Luc falls for Skye, who might have the power to destroy his shapeshifting family. Skye soon finds herself caught in a supernatural underground she never knew existed, relying on a man who heats her blood...but one she can't trust.

Excerpt:
She fought the knot growing in her gut, attempted to tune in to the animals, to convince them she offered no threat. As had happened earlier, whispers and laughter and an odd tickle of heat brushed along her spine and through her skin.
The hyena broke from the pack and rushed her. If she turned her back on it, she was dead for sure. She kept putting one foot behind the other and the wolf and the lion picked up their pursuit.
The hyena’s muscles bunched and it flew through the air at her. Though she threw up her hands to protect herself, it never reached her.
Instead, it was as if an invisible wall stopped it cold. It shrieked and fell to the ground in a heap.
What do you think you’re doing? Go!
The predators stopped and she sensed their sudden fear.
Now! the voice in her head thundered.
The animals fled and quickly disappeared into the night.
Skye flipped around. At first, she didn’t see him. Then she caught a movement to her right and nailed him where he stood.
Dark hair whipped around features so rugged they could have been cut from granite. High cheekbones. Broad forehead. Square chin. His eyes appeared silver in the moonlight, and they glowed at her, tightening her stomach and making it hard to breathe.
Trembling, she gasped. “What just happened?”
“You got into something that doesn’t concern you.” Forget about it.
She started. He hadn’t said the last bit out loud. There was something about him so powerful she almost agreed.
She fought the desire to give in. “I’m not forgetting about anything. Who are you?”
She felt as if he were trying to push the command into her mind.
Glaring at him, Skye pushed back.
“What are you?” he asked.
“Someone who protects animals.”
His silence told her that wasn’t exactly the explanation he was looking for. Her pulse threaded as he stepped closer. She sensed both threat and something less tangible, something that made her stomach knot and her throat tighten. She’d always had a psychic connection not only with animals, but with her brother. No one else. Not until now. And this guy being able to mess with her mind went beyond any previous experience she’d had.
“Did you have something to do with the fight?” she gasped. “Where did those predators come from? What kind of power do you have over them?” It had to be something supernatural.
He stepped closer, and she sucked in a breath as his power cut through her, speeding her pulse, drying her mouth.
“You need to forget about them, Skye.”
This time he said it aloud. And he used her name.
“How do you know who I am?” she demanded, her heart beating so fast she could feel it bump up against her ribs. “What were you doing here? Who are you?”
Rather than answering her questions, he reached out and slid a palm along her cheek. The touch seared her, reminding her of the time she’d inadvertently touched a live wire. Wanting to move, wanting to run, she stood frozen instead. He was so close she imagined she could feel the heat of his body as he splayed fingers around the side of her head. Her insides trembled and her breasts felt full and tight.
What was wrong with her? Why couldn’t she move? Or speak?
You never saw me. You’ll forget about me the moment I disappear.
Every fiber of her being longed to do what he wanted. But something in her, the thing that made her do what she did, was stronger.
“Disappear to where?” she demanded through a parched throat. “I have an excellent memory.”

Animal lover and rescuer, Skye Cross has always been able to communicate with them. She’s horrified that rescuing dogs from an illegal fight actually involves shifters. This leads her to Luc Lazare...

This is a finely crafted tale of suspense. It had me on the edge of my seat for much of it. Skye's abilities are cool and make for an interesting storyline. Highly recommend this one. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and freely leave this honest review.

This book was a really unique paranormal read. It felt like we dove into the second or third installment in a series because of the rather developed characters and story. We hit the ground running, meeting Skye and Shade, a pair of twins with interesting telepathic abilities. Shade, a cop, has a skill more geared towards police work, while Skye is able to communicate with animals. After breaking up some illegal animal fighting, Skye bumps into Luc, a stranger who has an inexplicable control over some wild animals.

Luc is a conflicted half breed who is straddling the human and "kindred" world. In this book, the word kindred refers to a group of demon-like creatures who can shapeshift. This book was filled with a really unique mythology and a mystery that had me guessing until the very end. The romance was nicely paced, as opposed to your typical love at first sight stories. It was heavier on the romance and mystery and light on the smut (although there was some). This was a great stand alone book to introduce yourself to this author.

This is a good book to get you hooked on this series. If you love shifter books this one is for you.

Luc and Skye met at an animal fight, she was there to soothe the animals, he was there for other reasons. Once they meet it's almost impossible for either not to think about the other. This is their story.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book had a totally different take on shifters and at times I must admit I struggled with it and I usually love Patricia work.

Skye has the ability to communicate with the souls animals while her twin brother Shade can communicate with humans souls something that comes in very handy with his work as a detective When they are both involved in a rescue of animals from a dog fighting ring they realise there are more shifter here than anything It also puts Skye in the sights of Luc Lazare a man who has plenty of secrets of his own When Shade is killed Luc decides he needs to protect Skye but will that decision put her in even more danger You will have to read to see

The first in a three part series. We're introduced to the Powers and the Kindred. Heaven and Hell reflected in both. Luc and Skye are torn between good and evil, and their growing attraction. Action packed from the start. A one sitting read that will have you begging for more.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This is a different take on shifters which takes a little bit to understand. The part about the choice each shifter (kindred) had to make to give up their souls was a bit unusual and shows how depraved the group is once they lose their soul.

I enjoyed the book for the romance and the intrigue as Luc and Skye tried to figure out who was behind the fight ring and bring Shade's murder to justice. There was a bit of a mystery to who was behind the fights and a few red herrings to throw you off guessing who it was so it keeps you engaged as you try to figure it out!

I liked most of the characters and look forward to Nuala and Ethan's book and later Nik's. They are all such complex characters as they seem prone to the darkness that is nature to their kind and yet you can't help but like them!

I was looking for some comfort reading so decided to pick up Animal Instincts.

Animal rescuer Skye Cross' hunt for justice leads her into the dark mafia underworld of shapeshifters - and into the arms of Luc Lazare. But can she trust him?

While this is pitched as a paranormal romance, I would recommend this to romance fans over urban fantasy fans. The primary focus of the story is the connection between the two characters (+ a sprinkling of smut).

The world-building is fairly original. It offers a take on shapeshifter origins I haven't seen before, combining Biblical mythology and soul bargaining in a way that is ripe with potential. I would have liked to learn more about the world, and specifically about how Skye's abilities fit into the bigger picture - I'm assuming this will be covered in future books.

Skye and Luc are fairly classic romance heroes: Luc is the conflicted/dark past but ultimately loyal type, Skye is the act first think later gutsy heroine. I do think their backstories could have been better developed (eg, For an animal lover, Skye leaves her pets home alone for long periods of time and has animals in cages in her shop. Luc's veteran status feels like a plot device; it would have felt more realistic to see more PTSD).

While there is a homicide investigation and conspiracy to keep the story moving, the focus is on the romance. I think the will they/won't they narrative would have been more compelling if I better understood the forbidden romance element of the character's abilities. Also, while the scenes between Luc and Skye were steamy, I'm unsure about the depiction of consent. Skye is shown to be resistant to Luc's mind control but he does still frequently use sexual chemistry to get his way.

Ultimately as a light read, this fits the bill. If you're looking for a quick romance read with fantasy trappings, this one is for you.

This is a beautifully crafted suspense novel. The skills of Skye are cool and make for an exciting storyline, This is a different take on shifters which is a little bit hard to understand. What had me intrigued was the part about the choice each shifter had to make to give up their souls which was a bit abnormal and shows how depraved a person is once their soul is lost. However i had trouble keeping up with which perspective each chapter was written from, which left me most of the time a bit confused.
Overall, i recommend this book to anyone who loves shifters, romance, and mystery.

This is the first book I've read from Patricia Rosemoor and I enjoyed immensely.. The story was so original from any other shifter novel I've read that I had a hard time putting it down when necessary.

The protagonists in this book are strong apart from each other but better together. I do wish that Shade played a bigger role! There were some editing issues as far as a word missing here or extra words there, and a few spots where first and third person speaking in the story was switched but then I did read an ARC.

Overall I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery, intrigue, shifters and romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I first want to say if you LOVE paranormal romance with mystery, intrigue and suspense, you MUST read this. Second, have a NEW box of tissues ready for the tears! Or it may be just that I'm a softie.

Shade and Skye Cross are twins. They share an unusual connection plus he can read the thoughts of people, she can read the thoughts of animals. Shade is a homicide detective with the Chicago police and she is an animal rescuer. She is at a dogfighting ring waiting for the police to descend to shut it down before she can look after the animals. Her brother comes across her before the raid takes place. He tells her to stay back and gives her a sea glass necklace and tells her to never take it off. Skye is puzzled as to why her brother would attach himself to the raid? Where is his partner, Ethan?

After the raid, Skye chases after a wounded coyote. Instead of finding a coyote, she finds herself facing down three predators! She can even read their thoughts. Normally she converses with animals through pictures. She senses another presence, it is a striking man who commands the animals to leave and much to Skye's amazement, they do!

Skye will come across Luc's path several times. Luc is the illegitimate son of a human woman and the head of the Kindred. Luc walks a fine line between both worlds. He is intrigued by Skye's ability to resist his attempts to erase her memory of him and her ability to hear his thoughts. Who is or really what is Skye?

This isn't the normal paranormal romance. I was glued to my e-reader to figure out who was behind the fighting ring and how it could be stopped! I adored the multiple POV format. There were several POVs other than the two main protagonists. I LOVED that. I was really able to connect to the story as well as the characters that way. The Kindred part of the story was a little on the fantasy side, which I don't read. My poor brain just doesn't comprehend it. But with this story, I was able to fully imagine the story just like I would a movie.

There were some sexy scenes that really just lead up to and then just highly glossed over details before fading away. I would highly recommend this to anyone OVER the age of 18 to read this paranormal romance!

I really enjoyed this book!! It covers just about everything a paranormal book fan would like; shifters, demons vs. angels, with a little ghost action thrown in. The animal attraction between Luc and Skye roared off the page. ;) I really think that there was a lot mentioned in the book that could grow into a series.

The concept of the Kindred Souls is new to me. It is an intriguing paranormal world building with characters who have very interesting and frightening skills. There’s romance and mystery a plenty. There’s also angst and sadness that will break your heart. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
