A mexican mafia story, starting with a literal bang when someone bombs the Boss of Bosses's daughter's birthday party. The prologue and the epilogue read a lot like the summary of some tele-novella, but the story itself was well written. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.
The characters were, although superfically speaking, very cliched. They had rather obvious roles and, let's be honest, I knew who was behind the failed assassination attempt from the beginning. Nontheless, the story and the different characters were very interesting and I enjoyed reading this book. It was also my forst book about the Mexian mafia instead of the Italian, so on that end, it really mixed things up for me.
The story, although predictable, was well written. The author has a lovely style that kept me engaged in the book and also left me eager to read on.
My favorite character of the book was Santino, the younger son. He was very likeable and he was a character who wanted to do nothing at all with his family's business. I am a bit sad to see that he hadn't had that much time on page as I had wanted him to, but nontheless, I liked him very much.
The other characters were interesting as well, but Ignacio was just... He was too obvious to me. I usually like the "villain" but Ignacio was just... He was too full of himself. I can't say anything about the father, because I really did not care about him. He wasn't a character that interested me much, despite that fact that he is the head of the family and was supposed to be assassinated.
I am also not rooting forthe police here (I've only ever done so while watching Death Note and I doubt this is ever going to change...), because the cop (can't remember his name) was very unsympathetic.
I loved that you had multiple point of views which gave you a very good insight in the whole affair between the police and the mafia, although I think the police dominated a bit too much. But I presume that's just a matter of taste. I hope the following book might focus more on the Mafia, but having read the included sneak peak, I am pretty sure that won't be the case.

I received a free copy by Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
