This book is written and illustrated by kids, for kids. I find myself really unsure of how to rate and critique it. I like that it's a collective creation by kids, I like the colour scheme used, the graffiti-style illustrations, and I like the message it portrays. This book will appeal to the target audience.

This was a cute rhyming book. Growing up as a black girl, hair can be a highlight or a sore spot in the black community. I love how this book uplifts and magnifies the different hairstyles of all black people. The illustrations were really bright and vibrant.

I good book to add to my elementary classroom library. It gives students a chance to feel empowered and confident with their body all while seeing figurative language, rhyming, and text features in action. The main reason for 4 stars is due to illustrations not the best quality in the digital kindle version.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating

I recommend this to young girls up to adults. It shows how “hip hop hair” is GOOD hair even though it may not be the norm. It shows that we are more than our hair, our hair is an added bonus on what makes us, us. Quick read and great illustrations of great representation.

The publisher kindly offered me a reader copy via NetGalley. Yet, this is an honest review of the book expressing my own opinion.

This book was so much fun! It's vibrant and full of life. The messages of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-love shone brightly. I would have liked it to be longer so it can include more information, but if their goal was to spread fun and self-acceptance, they nailed it. I honestly recommend it for any Black and Brown kids. Reading this was like taking a breath of fresh air and colors.

Also, I'd like to highlight that this book is written by kids for kids. Jfam, you are incredibly talented and already inspire other kids to love who they are.

This book is filled with great rhymes and self-affirmations to celebrate hip hop, hair and individuality. It's fun, catchy and definitely something that children can enjoy. It has been written and designed by young people, for young people, and this is what will make young readers have a special connection to the book. A hip-hop glossary and history has also been included which is an excellent way for allowing this book to also be used as an educational tool.

I really liked this book! My son liked seeing the different hair types (he is biracial) and he liked the flow of the book.

This is a fun, vibrant book that encourages young children to be proud of who they are and how they look. Clearly this focuses on children of color, but I think that any child can both learn how to respect the uniqueness of others and themselves.

I find it especially fun that a family of children (all under the age of 13) wrote and illustrated the book. It's a short read, but one that comes with a powerful message and a clear directive - love who you are.

My 9 year old loved the illustrations and rhymes. As a mixed race child, she is learning to love her hair, her appearance and her heritage. Beautiful book.

Written by a family of 8 siblings, this is a short, sweet, vibrant, and powerful story book about being proud of yourself. Proud of your heritage, proud of your skin, proud of your amazing hair. Never let the world tell you what you're supposed to look like, because hip hop hair don't stop.

I love this. The illustrations, the words, the ENERGY. It's impossible to read this without smiling.

*Disclaimer I received this free ARC ion NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Hip Hop Hair is a playful ode to all types of curly black hair. Every page exudes empowerment through rhymes and imagery. This book will be a great gift to every look black girl whose hair is not the socially accepted norm. Curating self-love and acceptance, through a playful hip-hop style reminiscent of the first emcees.

The Johnson family has created a poetic Ode to various ethnic hairstyles in this hand-illustrated short #ownvoices book. Good for home, school, and town libraries.
