In a world with intermittent electricity, the President makes decrees from the television. The government controls the news and all information.

The rising tension in the country and the Project puts Colt in Katherine’s and the government's crosshairs. The world has gone to hell and people struggle to survive. A good book, with a theme that's not too hard to think could come true.

The characters are well written, and while not all of their motives are clear, Marshall being the main character who's reason for doing things aren't revealed, yet. You believe they would act in the way they do.

The action moves at a nice pace and leaves you wanting to find out what happens in the next book.

Overall a decent read, 4/5

This is one of the best books I have recently read! Thank you to NetGalley for granting me a version to blog about! New America Awakenings is set in an America that is deeply divided, literally. After a civil war, America has been divided into different Projects based on race and religion. What was billed as a resettlement meant to be a new beginning was clearly a power grab meant to keep the people down and fighting amongst themselves. The President is crooked and the Project Colt Jenkins lives in is run by a power-hungry demon of a woman named Katherine.

Colt and his family, his parents and his beloved little sister Eliza, are used to being hungry and don't get startled when gun shots or explosions are heard or felt. They know the way they are being forced to live isn't right, but who has the power to do anything about it. If you speak up, you are labeled an "Enemy of the Peace" and summarily executed in a guillotine. One day after a bombing, Colt goes to secure blankets and a tarp to secure a blown out window. When his father is wrongly accused of stealing it, Colt decides he has had enough of the abuse by those in power and decides to stand up for the truth. His punishment is brutal and life-threatening. Afterwards, Colt is driven to put an end to the tyranny that New Bethlehem has suffered under for far too long.

This book is fast paced, action packed, and scarily (potentially) plausible. Obviously, since the cover says "Book One" there is obviously going to be a sequel. I can not wait!!!!! Loved every page of this one!

New American Awakenings (Book one) by Tyler Davis is one the hardest books I have read about the post America world in years. I started reading this book after the capitol attack in D.C. and this book is so realistic even if others don't believe so. It is from the viewpoint of Colt a young man who is living in a slum after a supposed christian (I put a little "c" on purpose as the group that took over is not what the Bible calls Christian at all) took over the government and made anyone different from them the enemy/terrorist. The horrific abuse at the hands of a prideful person who thinks she is the servant of God is horrific but sadly I can even see it in people today. Without giving anything away I will say that the story is well written as I could picture everything even to point of seeing it actually happening to our America. This book is a great fiction example of what happens when we let prideful people make enemies out of our neighbors. I highly recommend this book even with the chaos going on in our world right now,

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I just dont know what to say this was such an amazing book. I was a bit doubtful to start with reading the description but oh my goodness. I just sat and read it non-stop as needed to know what happened. Now I need to read the next installment.

What an amazing premise - actually with certain roles of the dice you could believe it happening. The characters were very well thought out and developed. I am not going to give you the plot as there would be spoilers but this is a must read if this is your genre.

It was a bit YA but also adult enough for me.

I was provided with a copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is all my own.

This was an amazing romp through a future American, wracked with civil war and an invasion. A great dystopian tale told though characters who you will quickly identify with. Highly recommend. Will be purchasing for library.

this was a interesting start to a scifi young adult novel, the characters were great and I enjoyed getting to know the world that was built.

This book hit way too close to home and felt more like an accurate telling of today than a dystopian story of tomorrow. The characters and the hatred felt in this book are all too real. What an insightful, terrible look into the "humanity" of the US. We have so much work to do...
