Description

BRAINSTORM is an action-packed romance thriller that touches on the paranormal.

Paxton Gahl, an emergency medical services (EMS) technician, leads a modest existence. After five years of riding and driving an ambulance with the Louisville, Kentucky EMS, he dreamily aspires to raise his pay and responsibilities to those of a fully qualified paramedic. Dramatic life changes put Paxton's very survival at risk, and he winds up committed to psychiatric care. To treat him, his doctor chooses electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), formerly known as "electroshock therapy." Paxton's first and only ECT treatment endows him with a freakish sixth sense that will trigger "brainstorms" flashing in his head with ever greater frequency.

Paxton's flashes lead to uncommon heroic exploits on the job, earning media coverage. They also attract the attention of Louisville's police and 911 dispatchers, with whom Paxton chooses to communicate under the code name "Vulcan." Is Vulcan a superhero or a super nemesis? Living what is now a drama-filled life, Paxton gets entangled with the attractive Sergeant Malika Kelly and with bank officers desperate to find a fortune in stolen gold coins.

Brainstorm delivers action, romance, suspense, and humor, and it also sketches in realistic detail how a city's public safety agencies-police, 911 dispatch, and EMS-work together to execute their shared mission.

When Paxton Gaul comes home from his jogging, he finds his wife packing to divorce him. Paxton goes into a deep depression after he buys a boat to live on and finds out he has cancer. His boat neighbors find him hanging over the side of the boat and call 911. Even though he doesn’t die, he just doesn’t care that he is still alive. The doctor treating him has him get electroconvulsive therapy. One treatment makes Paxton feel great and gives him a supernatural gift. He is allowed to go back to his life on the boat and working as an EMT. HE discovers that he can now be aware when someone is hurt or dead. He calls the things he sees into 911 so those people get helped much sooner than usual. He calls himself Vulcan when he calls in these emergencies. The police want to know who Vulcan is as they are wondering if he is causing these problems. His boat gets burglarized except nothing is taken. Paxton calls the police. He discovers that there are supposed to be gold and a rare coin worth millions. No one finds it. Will they find the gold and/or coin?

An amazing and fascinating novel to read. I found Paxton to be an interest character with all his attributes that made him decisions that were not always the best ones. I enjoyed his EMT partner and the police Sargent trying to figure out Paxton. The author expertly created quite a compelling story.
