Description

June 22, 1919
Donal McKenna,
Ye might have found happiness with another woman, but yer progeny will pay for this betrayal of me. I call on my faerie blood and my powers as a witch to give yers only sorrow in love, for should they act on their feelings, they will put their loved ones in mortal danger.
So be it,
Sheelin O’Keefe

Sheelin didn't know she was pregnant with Donal's son when she cast the curse and inadvertently cursed her own descendants, as well. Four generations of loved ones dying...when her sister-in-law and best friend is the latest victim, Molly Kavanaugh has had enough! She faces down her great-great grandmother's spirit and says she will end the curse...only how? She swears it's Sheelin telling her that to end the curse, a McKenna man must marry an O'Keefe woman he loves more than life itself. So when Molly has her motherless niece write a letter to Santa with her Christmas wish, the niece says Molly must write one, as well.
Dear Santa, Please let me meet a McKenna man who will help me end Sheelin O’Keefe’s horrible curse on both our families. Molly Kavanaugh

Excerpt:
Brigid was asleep and Finn had texted Molly that he had to make another stop before returning home. Molly settled down in the recliner near the blazing stone fireplace, where stockings hung for Brigid, Finn and Kate. Kate, who wouldn’t be here for Christmas. Obviously, her brother hadn’t been willing to let go of the holiday reminder. She looked away from it to the lit tree she had helped decorate before leaving for Ireland. Though it was beautiful, and though Christmas had always been her favorite holiday, this year she couldn’t properly appreciate it. She didn’t know that the holiday would ever be the same for her.
Starting to doze, she jerked awake when the doorbell rang. Had Finn forgotten his keys? Yawning, she left the recliner and headed for the entry. When she swung open the door, it was to a complete stranger.
“I’m looking for Finn Kavanaugh.”
“I’m sorry, but he’s not here at the moment.” Molly tried not to gape as she took him in. He was tall, his broad shoulders dusted with newly fallen snow. Ruggedly handsome, he had dark hair, muddy violet eyes and a small scar on his chin. Was she really awake or asleep and dreaming? He pretty much fit her description of her hero for her new book. “Um, I’m his sister, Molly. Finn didn’t tell me he was expecting anyone.”
A thread of excitement ran through her. An undefinable pull more than simple attraction. Not that she’d met a man this attractive in... well, maybe never.
He pulled out a leather holder from his suit jacket and flipped it open to show her his Chicago Police Department ID and star. When he said, “I’m here to talk to Mr. Kavanaugh about his wife’s probable murder,” Molly fought more tears and told herself that Kate wouldn’t want her to cry. Then he said, “I’m Detective Reilly McKenna.”
She nearly choked at the detective’s last name. A McKenna man. Here! She’d written her Dear Santa request less than an hour ago. Had Santa somehow sent him to her? Or had Sheelin? Her pulse raced at the idea.
Flustered, she forced herself to concentrate on the reason Detective Reilly McKenna had come by. “Murder? The police told us it was vehicular manslaughter or something like that.”
“The initial investigators thought it was a simple matter of hit and run because the driver was panicked. We now have a witness and video footage that makes us believe otherwise. That was how I landed the case.”

Marrying Molly is a novella by Patricia Rosemoor, part of the McKenna Curse series. Molly is in Ireland when she hears of her sister-in-law/best friend's death in a hit and run. She is on her way back to Chicago but she has one more stop: the grave of Sheelin O'Keefe, her ggg-grandmother and the progenitor of this curse that has killed countless lovers, including her father, and her sister-in-law Kate. She asks Sheelin how she can break the curse and Sheelin's spirit rises from the grave to tell her: find a McKenna man to love an O'Keefe woman more than he loves his life. Oh, is that all? Several days later when she is with her brother and niece back in Chicago, a man rings the bell. It is the detective investigating Kate's MURDER. When did it turn into a murder? Moreover, the detective's name is McKenna. Can she make this happen? This string of senseless deaths?

First, let me say, I love this series. I love the fairy blood. I love the curse. I love the empathetic way some of them deal with the world. These are terrific love stories. I hope this is not the end. Molly can feel spirits. She has always been able to. She can feel Kate, and she could feel Sheelin. Riley has inherited something of that was well. It helps him as a detective. Often he can feel what is going on in someone's mind/heart. He was drawn to her immediately. She is fun, energetic, full of love to give, and makes a house a home. He is serious, good at his job, and naturally curious. They are in love before either of them realizes it. What a lovely Christmas story. It made my day. I totally recommend it.
