This is a lovely book about the special relationship between a dad and his little boy. In this story dad bakes, has picnics, goes sledging, reads stories and does lots of other everyday activities with the little boy in the story. The story is told in rhyme and the illustrations are gorgeous. A lovely book to remind children how special their own dad is and one that children can relate to. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing group for this ARC.

Really wanted to read this as I am hugely close with my dad, and I genuinely don't think there are enough kids books out there that focus on the role of the dad, or male role models. It's always the mum. This book really stands out!
The words rhyme - something I love in children's picture books. The words are incredibly sweet and heartfelt too. It was nice that 'dad' did a variety of tasks and not confirm to gender stereotypes.
The illustrations were lovely too. Soft colour palette, felt calm and cosy.

Really liked this book! There should be more books about male role models for children.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! This will be the perfect Father’s Day/Birthday gift for any Daddy and after letting my three year old have this as a bedtime story I can safely say we all loved it!

I love the illustrations and the colour palette in this cute story. The relationship between a child and a dad is always a precious one, especially if the dad is up for adventures (flying kites is enough adventure!). Enjoyed this a lot.

I was looking for something short, cute and positive and was not disappointed. This picture book was exactly what I needed.
The story is lovely, told in rhymes, and the art style is beautiful with soft pastel colors. The illustrations create a poetic world based on the very simple and genuine things that a kid does with their dad, showcasing subtle demonstrations of love and shared moments.

Honestly these pages are filled with love and I couldn’t have asked for more! I'd recommend this for children and families, and anyone who's looking for tenderness.

Being a grandma to twin granddaughters who are 4 this was a lovely book to read together. Beautifully illustrated and some good discussions about what makes a dad special.

My Dad by Susan Quinn is a lovely rhyming picture book that follows a relationship between father and son. It's a familiar format – we have a few of these 'My Dad' and 'My Mum' books on our bookshelf and they're often rhyming too.
This one offers a little something different in terms of representation, and the way it challenges stereotypes of traditional Dad qualities. I also liked that it starts with lines like 'My Dad has never been on a spaceship to a galaxy deep in space...' A lot of the ones we've read do include all these kind of fantastical elements and larger than life perfection, while this one moves on to what really is genuinely special about his dad.
The rhyming is spot on and the illustrations by Marina Ruiz create a lovely world with gentle pastel shades.
My children both listened contentedly and my son cried - It was Great! I loved it!' and when I asked why he said - 'Because I love my dad!' Who doesn't love a book that celebrates the child and parent relationship. I would definitely recommend this one over the ones we have like it. A lovely book - that I'm sure will be beautiful in print.

A beautifully illustrated book about a dad who is the best because of the everyday normal things he does. Breaking down gender stereotypes. Really recommend this.

This picture story book follows a young child on ordinary, every day adventures with their dad, listing and explaining the many reasons why they love him. It is beautifully illustrated to fit the tone of the piece. In terms of teaching content, this book could be used for elements of poetry as each stanza follows an ABCB rhyming pattern. It is very literal in the sense that there weren't any metaphors or similies, however this definitely works better for earlier readers. There are also references to the seasons and activities that they partake in at that time of year. The diversity in this book is positive (though please note I am not an Own Voices reviewer). The child and their dad are illustrated as BIPOC, and the range of background characters also offer some diversity (wheelchair user, hijabi woman, BIPOC). The child could be any gender or sex as there are no direct references made to this and the activities that they partake in are not aligned to any gender stereotypes. It is just the child and their dad shown and the last line reads "and every day is special when it's just my dad and me!", suggesting that this dad is a single parent to an only child, a dynamic not often represented in literature. Overall, I would recommend this as an addition to school libraries.

This book is like the old saying. Anyone can father a child but it someone special to be a dad.
This book takes you through a day with a dad and his child and what they do together. No stereotypical roles.
Colourful pictures and lovely rhyming words.

Sweet picture book that I will definitely be ordering in for Father's Day - beautiful illustration, diverse, and unlike most father's day books where dads are superheroes. Highlighting how special everyday activities can be, seeing the extraordinary in the little things that make life a little bit brighter, is definitely something we have all learned to treasure this past year. I enjoyed it very much and I can't wait to have it in my future displays!

A lovely picture book perfect for Fathers day.

This is a lovely, realistic portrayal of fatherhood. As shown, the dad hasn't been to space or been a secret agent, he is at home doing lovely things with his son.

It is great to see a dad doing stereotypically female things such as baking. The range of activities they do is heartwarming and opens up discussions about what children's fathers do too.

There is a great range of diverse characters in the background as well which children are sure to spot and discuss.

The illustrations are in a soft muted colour pallete and it makes the book feel very cosy and like a big hug.

Really enjoyable read. Thank you to Quarto and NetGalley for this eARC.
