A lovely children's story about a monster who wants to grow up quickly to be like everyone else. She feels unseen and unheard because of her difference to everyone else.
It teaches children that it might actually be ok to be small and not to feel rushed to grow up.
I read it to my 3 year old son and he was engaged throughout and thought the illustrations of Millie were very cute.
A lovely book to read with your young children.

This would be a great read-aloud book for preschoolers! The story is told in six-line poems, but some of the rhythms tripped me up--there would be a surprise syllable or the need to change the pattern of emphasis in a phrase to make it fit the cadence. I would pre-read this a few times before reading it to students.

This would probably be a little more challenging for independent readers since the author chose unconventional phrasing to make the words fit the rhyme pattern. Also, some of the phrasing sounded like UK English ("only small", "I'd not have", etc.) which is something to be mindful of if readers have questions.

The illustrations were absolutely lovely! I liked the nods to classic Seuss in the pictures and characters. The cute, vibrant pictures would be very useful in keeping young readers engaged.

The story has a nice message about accepting and appreciating yourself for who you are and what you can do, not for what you wish to be or think you should be. Kids can always benefit from hearing that everyone has gifts to contribute.

This looks to be a first in a series, and I would definitely check out future Millie tales!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Strong rhymes and a simple aesthetic help sell this story of a little monster who is annoyed that she is just that – little. Patronised, ignored, and unable to reach very far, Millie is anxious to just do one thing – grow. But can a chance event change her mind about her lot? This is a world of cartoonish landscapes, fluffy things as monsters and quite birdlike creatures as the more human characters, so is perfectly suitable to very young audiences, and the successfully-sustained verse adds to the read-aloud appeal. With the very expressive facials from Millie, and the promise of further books looking at her, this deserves a strong four stars.

This is a cute picture book full of simple but colorful illustrations. It starts with a letter from Millie at the beginning. It's a cute start with a nice rhyme to get the kids introduced to the story. From there, each spread has a 6-line verse. It flows nicely, with none of the rhymes seeming forced.

I really liked this story. It was very uplifting about being happy with who you are. My only criticism is that I wish Millie didn't actually grow at the end. I understand why she did, and I'm glad that she didn't grow until she was happy with herself, but it could have been great to give to children with physical disabilities or dwarfism to teach them that it's okay to be different. Still, it's a great story for small kids who wish they could be grown up. The rhyming text makes it great for a read aloud in a story time or classroom.

This is a charming story of wanting what you don’t have and then seeing the positive in what you have.

The illustrations of Millie and the monsters around her are charming and engaging.

The story has a positive message, well told and my 3 year old liked the story but possibly more appropriate for slightly older readers.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

This delightful story is full of wonderful illustrations that are bright, bold and fun. They are sure to capture its young audiences attention and compliment the story fabulously.

The story involves Millie the Monster who is a cute and tiny little monster. While everyone around her has grown tall, she remains small until eventually, after years of waiting, she begins to grow! Children are able to follow Millie and the struggles she faces from being so small. It is told over 37 pages in short text, meaning it should hold the children's attention from beginning to end. It uses a lot of describing and action words which children will benefit from, helping to expand their vocabulary and boost their learning.

A fab little story that children are sure to enjoy.

Thank you NetGalley and Una O'Sullivan for a copy of "Millie the Monster" in exchange for my honest review.

Millie is a monster who is not scary and loves to make new friends. Millie is upset that she isn't growing as fast as her brothers. She can't reach the middle shelf. She can't turn lights on by herself. She can't even hang a picture on the wall. She feels left out. Her arms and legs are way too small. Clothes are always made for the long and lean, big and tall, never the mini size. She feels not bigger than a mouse.

Then she realizes that she can see things that her tall brothers can't. She decides she will not moan about her height and measure every herself every night.

This book can help parents and educators show children that they should be the best "me" they can be.

Millie the Monster was really small
There wasn't much of her at all!

Tiny Millie doesn't want to be small. She wants to be as big as the other monsters, do things independently, and not be treated like a much younger little monster. She wants to GROW! But then one day she realises the value of being the just-right size for her.

Gorgeously illustrated, this story is told in verse, and can be enjoyed either as a read-aloud book to preschoolers, or independently, by early readers. Young children will relate to Millie as she goes unheard or overlooked, and the message of being happy with who you are, and that there is a time and place for everything, is gently given.

Lovely little book. I can't wait to share it with my own not-so-little one.

4.5 Stars
Oh, my! Isn’t this super cute? Millie is a wee little monster and small as a mouse. Now, being such a teeny thing is no fun when everyone around is so tall, right? Millie feels the same and shares her sad adventures until she helps her big brother find something he could never have because of his height.
Millie realizes she should be happy in her own skin and enjoy life the way it is. Just is an important lesson for kids to accept themselves and be comfortable about who they are. The story is presented in rhyming verses and has a cheerful tone. The illustrations are colorful and cute.
This is a good book for little ones to read, enjoy, and learn a valuable life lesson.
Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial, for the ARC.

Millie the Monster is a lovely story which explains to children that they do not have to grow up quickly and they should just enjoy being young. Myself and my 4 year old son loved it.

(3.5/5) A cute little story about a monster that is very small. I picked up this one, because when my 3yo was younger he was tiny due to a struggle with food allergies. I thought this might have a good message that all sizes are equally wonderful. So, I thought it was a little strange when Millie grows to be as big as everyone else in the end. Although the illustrations were adorable, I wasn't a huge fan of the all caps font. But my 5yo said he liked it "a whole lot" and this was his 3rd favorite out of the 4 new books we read today. Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the free ARC!

Millie the monster is an adorable book about seeing the good in yourself and around you as you grow. It's a great book that teaches children to have a positive perspective and a good body image.
I did find it kind of cringe worthy-cliché that Millie feels better about her height by finding a coin her tall brother couldn't. At first it bothered me. I thought "that's a flimsy argument that reminds me that 🎵short people ain't got no reason🎵" and "wow, being short is literally worth ten cents," and "they spent so much time convincing me that her life was terrible, that I'm not convinced finding a dime would fix anything."
Then I talked with my daughters. I pointed out that finding the coin didn't fix the problems that were happening, and asked, "Why do you think Millie started to like being short after that?"
The short answer was obvious. She chose to. Every day, we have many chances to see what we can be grateful for, small opportunities that open our eyes for just a second, to see a change we can make. We can choose to hang on to that feeling, or let it go when something bad happens again.

The essence of this book, that you can enjoy waiting for good things even with less than ideal circumstances, is a wonderful lesson and a good reminder for me. I loved the cute pictures and the fantastic morals. All in all it turned out to be a very worthy read.

This might be one of the cutest children's books ever written! The art style is absolutely adorable and since the story is written in rhymes, I think that children are going to love it. This book also shares such an important message that we all grow or change at our own pace and that there is nothing wrong with that. We should all love ourselves no matter what and also that good things will come to those who wait for them! I hope to read more about Millie's adventures someday! :)

As a short adult, this book is so very relatable as Millie is patronized, struggles with life when she can’t reach shelves or buy clothes that fit. Millie eventually realizes her worth, but the message gets a bit lost when she grows up to be “normal.” It’s a cute and fun rhyming book that I’d still pick up to read during story time.

What a delightful story! First, the rhyming prose made for easy flow and lyrical reading. The illustrations are adorable and brilliant in color. Not only is the book fun to read and view, it also has lessons to reinforce to our children. Lesson #1: You are you, and you are special. Lesson #2: Life is full of challenges. Lesson #3: We all have unique gifts.

I enjoyed this story tremendously and I loved the opportunity it provided to engage in thoughtful discussions with the little ones in my life. Millie was a lovable little monster and she fit right in with my lovable little monsters!

Well illustrated children’s book that captures a child’s (monster’s) wish too get bigger. If your child is one of the smaller kids in his/her age group, he/she will undoubtably enjoy this book. My 5 year old enjoyed the ARC I received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I think this might be one of my favourite little books for a 4-year-old. Millie wants to be a big monster like everyone else but then she discovers that she can do things that the big tall people can't because shes so small. Obviously, she eventually grows and is as big as everyone else.

A lovely little book about growing up and being patient. This is a lovely colourful book, it has lovely pictures, is rhyming and very enjoyable even as an adult!

We meet Millie the Monster, who is very friendly but unhappy with her short stature. The playful rhyme paints vivid word pictures of her trying to navigate her tiny problem and ultimately shows small children that being tiny is no cause for despair. The tone, pace, and illustrations are perfect for the target audience. I can see this book entertaining my daughter before bedtime, while waiting for doctor's appointments and the like for years to come.

A cute little monster is the hero of this story. He finds himself small in the world of big humangus monsters. He still holds his willpower and heart firm and finally becomes what he longs to be. A cute little kids book.

Millie the Monster is a mini monster. No matter what she tries or how hard she hopes, she never grows. When all her friends and family are so much bigger, Millie feels unimportant -- until a very small someone is exactly who is needed to save the day. Millie’s story is a great message for kids who are a little different, showing them that despite their differences, they are just right, and should love themselves just as they are. The story is told in rhyme with adorable pictures, and would be perfect for reading aloud at storytime. I love Millie, but I really wished that she stayed small and accepted her differences instead of becoming like everyone else.

I'm so grateful to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read and review Millie the Monster.

This book is a wonderful example of a tender approach to something that matters - feeling less than. Millie the Monster is not very scary. She's small and young. Her peers make fun of her for all of her "shortcomings". However, Millie discovers that her height gives her special abilities to see things that others cannot. She embraces herself as she is, which is a much-needed message for all. The illustrations are gentle and appropriate for the story. You'll enjoy this as a gift or readaloud.

I read this book to my 4 years old daughter. She adored the book and we talked about growing up and how we all grow at different rates.

The colourful pictures complimented the story and helped depict the characters well. I’ll be reading this again to my daughter. A good children’s book.

This was a cute book with great illustrations and I think kids will definitely love this and relate to it because they're small in a larger world too.

This feels just like the type of book I read as a child. It had passages that rhymed and characters who didn't believe in themselves. Very reminiscent of The Ugly Duckling turning into a beautiful swan. You always should appreciate what you are and what you look like because there's only one of you, and this book makes that message loud a clear. Kudos.
