Description

Hilarious collection of Dungeons & Dragons-themed pet jokes by acclaimed comics creators Andi Ewington, Rhianna Pratchett, Calum Alexander Watt and Alex de Campi

What if your pets could play D&D? And what if they were… kind of jerks about it?

If there are two things all geeks love, it’s roleplaying games, and their pets. So why not fuse the two? It’s time to grab your dice, dust off that character sheet, and let your cat or dog (or guinea pig, or iguana, or budgie) accompany you on an epic adventure! It’ll be great!

... unless you have pets like these.

Do you love Dungeons and Dragons? Have you ever wondered what it would be like for your pets to play? This wonderful graphic novel tells and shows us what that would be like for an array of pets.

What a fun quick read this was, this is exactly the type of shenanigans our pets would get into if they were to roll the dice. The illustrations only add to the fun of this book, dressing pets in appropriate adventuring attire and facing foes that make the most advanced adventures quake in their boots. I highly recommend this for all adventures, or even those just looking to dip their toe into what Dungeons and Dragons is all about, for any age.

I just recently started playing DnD for the first time and I honestly wish we had this book handy for ideas when I first started playing. It is exactly what you would imagine, with amazing illustrations and some hilarious ideas. I really want this book in hard copy.

If you love your pets and you know what D&D stands for, you are in for an uproarious read with the fully illustrated Campaigns & Companions.

“GM: The sorceress carefully places the glowing bottle on the workbench next to her. ‘Take heed, brave adventurers,’ she intones, ‘for contained within this delicate vile is enough power to destroy Hafgan’s entire necropolis. If a single drop fell upon the ground it would surely—
Cat: I knock the bottle off the table.”

I think the best way to tell you how funny this book is to quote from it extensively. But, I will restrain myself because then you will miss the chance to read them within this delightful book. Okay, just one more quote for dog lovers.

“GM: ‘The dart flies through the air and—‘
Dog: ‘I run after the dart and bring it back!’
GM: ‘What? You can’t! It’s stuck in the bum of the orc it hit.’
Dog: ‘I jump up at the orc, excitedly.’
GM: ‘Roll Wisdom.’
Dog: ‘Ah… I got a 4…’
GM: ‘The orc removes the dart and throws it—‘
Dog: ‘I run after the dart.’
GM: ‘—into a chasm.’

In addition to the nerd humor, I just have to comment on the excellent illustrations. They really up the enjoyment of this most highly recommended book. Campaigns & Companions would make a perfect gift for the pet-loving nerd in your life. 5 stars and a favorite!

Thanks to Rebellion and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is SO cute and laugh out loud funny! Playing off the hilarity of our pets and the tricky fun of D&D, this book features a collection of gut-busting discussions from the table of our pets and their DM.

This was funny and cute. By far the most funny thing I've read this year.
While I wouldn't say every joke hits it's mark, a lot of them do and do it well. A couple of the jokes I honestly, wasn't expecting the punchline and was overcome by giggles.

I enjoyed this book so much, I want to purchase it for every one of my friends for Christmas and I may just do it.

Snort laughed uncontrollably through most of the book. I can confirm this is exactly what pets would be like if we were able to get them playing our favourite TTRPGS (table top role playing games).

Incredibly beautifully illustrated with perfect attention to detail for each animal, I particularly love the cat just being a true cat with the 'If I fits,I sits' rule. This will 100% make the perfect addition to my RPG section in-store and I have no doubt it'll do incredibly well as a small 'pick up' gift for christmas.

Now please excuse me whilst I attempt to write an entire campaign with these animals for characters....

What a fantastic book!

D&D + Pets meant this was instant love for me, but I would say that you don’t need to be knowledgeable about the first to love this book (although it certainly adds to it), but anyone who has ever had a pet will appreciate the humour in Campaigns & Companions, and you’ve probably seen your critter do at least one of these things (just you know without Orcs and Treasure and Dragons, oh my!).

A short but highly entertaining read, that is equal parts funny and charming. Campaigns & Companions perfectly captures the funny side of D&D and the chaos that pets can bring, and combine them into something that is nothing short of perfection. The snarkiness of the humour was right up my street and had me laughing out loud. While the illustrations from Calum Alexander Watt brought the book to a whole other level, and I would be hard-pressed to pick my favourite although the cat in the treasure chest or the raging rabbit are strong contenders, but there wasn’t one that didn’t have me smiling and pausing to admire the art.
Highly recommended to anyone who loves D&D, Pets or both and a perfect present for anyone who loves those things. This is a beautiful book that will have you in stitches by the first page, and these are the jokes that you can tell around the gaming table (when not failing your saving throws of course), and you should definitely make space for Campaigns & Companions next to your Players Handbook.

***
Campaigns & Companions was a hilariously fun read of what if your pets played D&D, how would they play?
This was a quick fun read with short little skits of animals (mostly dogs and cats) in battle or solving a problem but doing it in their animal way. The illustrations were fun and perfectly suited to the book, the artist really caught some of those skits so perfectly I almost didn’t need to read the accompanying text to know what happened.
This was a brilliant read, I’ve already told all my D&D friends about it.

What can I say? This is a book of unparalleled genius and that nobody though of the idea earlier is unfathomable.

What would happen if your pets could play D&D? Well wonder no longer. This book is chock full of everyday RPG situations, but this time your party members are a cat, dog, parrot, snake, iguana and a myriad of other everyday pets.

Watch as dog chases after a fire-BALL!!!!
See cat use their nature skills to get high on catnip.
Wonder no more about how snake would use a pair of speed boots.

It's wonderful and brought to life with some fantastic illustrations. I can't recommend this enough.

This little book was such a delight!
If you're familiar with the gameplay of Dungeons & Dragons and you like animals, you'd probably enjoy it too. It consists of short D&D scenarios, where the Game Maker usually sets up the scene and the pets react to what they'd do in each situation. And that's all I can say without spoiling anything. Just know that most of these scenarios were laugh out loud funny. The only negative thing I can say is that it was too short.

Would definitely recommend this.

OMG this is adorable! If you do RPGs at all and love your pets this is just about painfully cute. Buy a copy and pass it around your gaming group. Ps, a fine gift book for the gaming nerd in your life!

Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review.

That was brilliant, it made me laugh from start to end. Can you imagine our pets playing D&D with their natural reactions to things happening during the game, like what if your chameleon comes upon a dragon, so what do you think that might happen? Or what if a player casts a fire ball, what do you think the dog is going to do?

That was funny, smart and the artwork was amazing! This was such a great idea in order to entertain us during this period of time, I enjoyed it so much.

An absolute treat to read! If you've ever wondered what D&D would be like if your pets played, then look no further! I highly recommend this book if you'd like a good laugh. Also, the illustrations are lovely! Can't wait to purchase this book for both my work library and my home library!

Campaigns and Companions is exactly what you expect from a graphic novel about pets playing D&D. It was perfect. I’m not a D&D player, but this has honestly convinced me to maybe give it a shot one day, if only so I can mimic some of the pets playing in this. If you choose to be a complete asshole of a player, the cat has some great advice on how to ruin other peoples campaigns. The dog is definitely the friend who just wants to enjoy themselves.

The art in this was amazing as well. As with most graphic novels, the art is kind of the focus, so you expect a lot from it, and I was very pleased with the work within. They picked the best parts of the campaigns described to illustrate, and it added so much to the experience of reading this. It was hard not to laugh out loud at some of the illustrations.

if you’re a pet owner, you’d be hard pressed to not get some form of enjoyment out of this. Even without being a D&D player, I couldn’t help be laugh at how great some of the descriptions were, how apt the art was, and really just how accurate it would be to watch some of our favourite furry friends try to fight monsters or muddle around with some potions.

I can’t recommend this one enough, it was just such a delight to read, and is definitely one of those books I would want to keep as a coffee table book just to flip through whenever I need a good laugh.
