Description

Fossdyke Retirement Home has seen its fair share of quirky characters, but it’s never seen the likes of these four geriatric rockers!

To outsiders, they are sweet, funny, if not a tad bit ornery. To those in the know, they are meddlesome, rebellious, and in way over their heads. When chaos erupts, they’re not far behind.

What begin as ordinary days, where others their age would spend their time chatting up a friend or family member, these four spend their days and nights making music, performing for their legion of fans, globetrotting to exciting destinations, and of course, getting mixed up in perilous situations. Between outrunning the press and persistent record companies, coming face-to-face with ISIS rebels, and the occasional death or two, it’s all they can do to keep their wits about them and escape injury.

Follow the madcap adventures of Britain’s most irreverently lovable elderly rockers as they trip, stumble, and fall into one situation after another and have a few laughs along the way in From Britain with Love, a hilarious action-packed thriller!

Getting old doesn't mean you can't have fun. It just means you know how to get away with it!

Fossdyke Retirement Home has seen its fair share of quirky characters, but it’s never seen the likes of these four geriatric rockers! The Fossils were simply four retired guys who had a love for music. But the media excitedly announced the vibrant young rock sensations whose new brand of music now grips the British nation – and that was enough to launch them out into a world which went crazy over their music. When would the public discover the truth? How would people react? And what do the Fossils think about their newfound fame and popularity?

This is a cute story that only goes to show us that old rockers never die! Music is eternal! And a fun-loving attitude never gets old. Grab your copy and enjoy! I wonder if the author will give us a soundtrack to sing along with as we read?"

Funny stories featuring a quirky cast of fleshed out characters. I had a lot of fun and loved the stories.

From Britain with love is a book one will not forget. I thought the synopsis would cover most of the book, what a pleasure to discover this is entirely wrong, Robert A Webster has more than one story to tell ! The dialogues are vivid, and the descriptions of the locations are so true you feel you belong. Speaking of belonging, I suspect the writer to be one member of the band .... Anyway, what a lot of fun ! But also a lot of food for thought. Under cold humour lay a true to facts description of our world. I just hope for a trilogy !
All opnions are mine, I received a copy from NetGalley.

This book is long and as I got half way through I found out that it is actually two books. It is entertaining though at times perhaps a little long winded and repetitive (lots of anecdotes which are quite similar) . I was not keen on the ladspeak, this was defined towards the end of the book. I preferred part 2 to part 1 because I thought the plot was better defined . I liked the characters and descriptions of their friendship.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

Princess Fuzzypants here: This is really two full length books in one and it follows the exploits of four geriatric rockers who, on a lark, become the biggest thing to hit Britain since the Beatles. And although they are closer in age to the remaining Beatles now, they become overnight sensations when they win a nationwide contest to find the most talented unknowns. The only problem is everybody, including the sharks at BBC and Virgin Records think they are a boys band. An old boys band maybe… and they do not want the secret to get out for fear of the ridicule and embarrassment to their families. Led by Steve, a guy who can clear a room with “toot”, the four geezers concoct an elaborate scheme to fool everyone with the aid of a local publican and a young DJ who was the one who sent their tape to the contest.

DJ Kipper is brilliant in some ways and thicker than a plank in so many others. He is the catalyst that forces the guys to flee the country and hide out, in plain sight in South-east Asia. They are quite capable of getting into their own mischief and both books involve their attempts at disentangling each other from precarious situations, many of which created by the three sleaze bags who have tried to bring them down i both stories. The villains unwittingly are aided and abetted in the second book by terrorists. Never fear, the villains get their comeuppance. Our heroes prevail. Beforehand, there is a lot of humour, Viagra, adventures, danger and pathos. It is quite a long read but well worth the time and effort.

Five purrs and two paws up.

An interesting conceit, highly improbable, light and fluffy, but a good read, nonetheless.

I have not read anything by Mr Webster before and whilst I enjoyed this book, I will not necessarily be looking to read additional titles.

Humour is a very personal subject, so my lack of laughter does not mean other readers won't be laughing at every page, it just didn't hit that spot for me.
