Wow oh wow!! Where do I start with this absolute gem?

This is a book that has completely blown me away and been a rollercoaster read. This is absolute genius, I have found myself pulled in and unwilling to put this down.

We meet Megan and Leah in this one. Identical twins who really don’t have a close bond. I have been on the edge of my seat.

I have devoured this book in one sitting and it is definitely one that has converted me as a HUGE fan of this author. This is a book that hasn’t even been published yet and I can’t wait to find out what is coming next.

Unpredictable ✅
Unique ✅
Well-written ✅
Tense ✅

This is a book that literally has it all. A definite five star read and one that definitely should be on the TBR.

Her Perfect Twin hinges on a brilliant premise - to get away with murder, you must live a double life, but then March 2020 happens and you're in lockdown, what then? This is the perfect page turner thriller, and centre stage is the fantastic anti-hero Megan who kills her twin Leah and then must pretend to be her, navigating life as a famous writer and influencer and juggling her affairs. To be in Megan's head is great fun and there's just something about her that makes you want to get away with it all! Sarah Bonner has a great skill in characterisation and the character voices are sharp and distinct. I won't spoil any of the twists but needless to say you'll be absorbed by all the book's revelations. The lockdown and COVID mentions are subtle and the plot doesn't become a pandemic novel but knowing that lockdown awaits there is a sense of foreboding about Megan's fate which adds to the delicious tension. If you're after a fun, gripping thriller you'll romp through Her Perfect Twin and maybe wish you were half as cunning as these characters.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder Studio for this ARC in exchange for a fair review.

I love the fact that this new to me author was able to encapsulate the COVID days so perfectly in this frighteningly devious thriller! The best possible use of the “evil twin” trope is how I would categorize this crazy story.

I've been looking forward to this book since I first heard about it several months ago, and was delighted to be granted an early read on NetGalley. I wasn't disappointed. I'm a sucker for anything tackling sibling rivalry and this took that theme to a new level, against a backdrop of the Covid lockdown, betrayal, domestic abuse and gaslighting, and the long-term impact of not knowing exactly who you are. There were so many different threads to this book, not least the encapsulation of the terror of being locked down with the wrong person, the ultimate tests of 'twin bonds', and the mental torture of being betrayed by those you are closest to. I read it quickly - in about two days, which is always a sure sign I'm enjoying something.

"Her Perfect Twin" hooked me in right away with its intriguing premise, but I would be the first to admit that I went in with more than a little trepidation - I have read SO many novels that utilise the identical twin / mistaken identity trope, and very few of them have actually done anything original with it. Thank god then for authors like Sarah Bonner, who take what could be a tired cliche and use it absolutely brilliantly, subverting everything you think you know and manipulating your preconceptions to her own ends.

Not only is the book beautifully written with engaging and realistic characters, it's genuinely surprising, with twists that come out of left field (and then keep on coming!). I don't want to say too much for fear of giving anything away, but I was absolutely glued to this novel - it's crafty, dark, and genuinely thrilling. I'll be thinknig about this one for a long time.

I cannot wait to read whatever this author writes next, and in the meantime, I'm going to be recommending "Her Perfect Twin" to every reader I know.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher, who granted me a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I couldn’t put Her Perfect Twin down until I’d finished it. A devious, twisty story laced with dark humour, with characters you’ll love and love to hate. I think this novel would appeal to any fan of raw psychological suspense. Echoes of Hitchcock and du Maurier, but also more contemporary thrillers like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. Brilliant.

Absolutely amazing book with so many twists, I loved the way the story changed viewpoints at times. It made it so much more then it was already.

EPIC!

An outstanding debut from Sarah Bonner. I have never read anything quite like it. Its about the intriguing life of twin sisters Leah and Megan, whose father had another secret family.
I loved the style of writing, which drew me in straightaway and made me wonder what would happen next. Its full of suspense, drama and surprises and written in four significant, exciting parts for maximum impact.
Highly recommended.

If you murder your twin sister, can you steal her life and get away with it?

Megan and Leah are twins, they look exactly the same, yet they are not close. They possibly hate each other. Leah was always taking away from Megan, no matter if clothes, cosmetics or boyfriends. She even took their family story, writing a book and earning millions on it. Now it's time for Megan to take everything back.

When Megan discovers on her husband's phone a picture of her twin, she decides to confront her sister. A short conversation turns into an argument and that follows with a murder. We learn who's the killer from the very beginning and then we see how the story unravels...

This fantastic story is told from different point of views, it has many twists and dark secrets. It's cleverly plotted, with great characters and interestingly it fits perfectly to the lockdown theme. I didn't think I can enjoy any book placed during the pandemic, but this one was terrific!

A top notch thriller! I want to read more books from Sarah and I hope she has many ideas to put into pages!

What a wonderful, crazy ride! The first book I've read that covers lockdown - which was handled really well, background rather than central. But what a story! I gasped, I hid my eyes behind my hands, I bit my lip, I laughed out loud. I'm not sure a book that includes murder, torture, gaslighting, rough sex, and revenge should be quite this much fun - but Sarah Bonner has managed it. The perfect escapist holiday read - I gobbled it up in two sittings. I am really glad I don't have an identical twin!

This is an incredibly great read, I loved every page and as Megan takes the 1st ½ of the story if your like me you will be hooked I was well into the night.

It's the tale of 2 very identical twins, one of them Leah has an affair with her twins husband after doing some pretty bad things before this takes the full pack of custard creams. Well Megan goes to confront her twin and things don't go too well, or you could say rather too well depending on how your outlook on life is. So Leah ends up in the freezer (a bit of a clue she won't feel the cold). Can Megan get away with it time will tell the quicker you buy it and read it the sooner you can find out.

The husband Chris obviously is a total hmmmm how do you say? Well I guess you don't need to say if he's mixing it with her twin and yes he does know who she is obviously. they are very identical. He's playing a sick and dangerous game and the deeper you get in to the story the worse he gets but it's not his tale it's Megan's although he gets to tell his story in part 2. I loved Megan from the start (not in the unfaithful way, relax, ) she's great and one of the few that you can fall in love with and still be normal in my point of view yours may vary, I can recommend some good doctors if it does. Actually Chris's Mum is good but she doesn't feature as much as Tom who is "Leahs" new boyfriend, and a good sort if truth is told. I think this would make an excellent audio as well the tension is superbly built up.

So for me 5 starts is the least this Thriller should get I promise I loved every page I know that expression is over used at times in reviews but I hope you will agree that this is the genuine case when you read "Her Perfect Twin". 🥰 there are a number of lesser parts with come great characters and just a forwarning the ending is great it's a book that gets better the deeper yiu go and it starts at a high point so is an incredible achievement for Sarah to pull of.

Wow! This was a great story - I am also an identical twin and the author got parts of this so right, it’s a relationship like no other and your twin was literally the other half of you so this story was weirdly fitting for me ( tho my life is not as not as extreme!)

I liked the way COVID was bought into this - the lockdown and how scary it all was at the beginning. Lots of twists and turns in the story and up to the last chapter I did not know who it was. I really enjoyed this and would recommend. Thanks to net galley too.

This is the first novel I’ve read with a COVID context, and it has an excellent premise. Contemporary wisdom is right: it was a terrible time to be living a double life, and yet for someone trying to get away with murder, perhaps it made the cover-up just a tiny bit easier? This debut is creepily believable and very timely. I can really imagine it hitting the screens. Its structure is perfect for adaptation.

Megan’s voice is deliciously sweary and strikes the right balance between jaded and judicious. She’s both a victim and a badass. I really enjoyed turning the pages of this cleverly-plotted thriller. It’s funny and insightful in places, harrowing in others. Sarah Bonner has clearly done her homework. Megan’s 'schoolmarm' inner voice would be impressed!

Got abit confused after the chapter from Chris but think I got back on track!
Definitely a best seller and what a big for a debut!!!!

Her Perfect Twin

A super-slick, page turning thriller.

Megan has always had a difficult relationship with her identical twin sister, Leah. From stolen boyfriends to a betrayal over a book they wrote together, there seems no end to Leah's duplicity, so Megan has cut her out of her life But when Megan discovers that her husband Chris has been having an affair with Leah, she confronts her sister and in a moment of madness commits a terrible act. Now, with Leah's body hidden in the freezer of her lakeside cabin, Megan must hide her crime by living two lives at once. So far, so good. But then COVID strikes and the country is plunged into lockdown. How can Megan carry on living both her life and Leah's life when she can't even leave the house? And how much does Chris know about what's been going on?

I don't tend to read a huge number of thrillers and perhaps that's my loss, because I couldn't put this book down. I read it over a weekend, staying up to the wee early hours to get to the end. It's a twisty story, never going in the direction you expect, but with careful characterisation also keeping the reader firmly on Megan's side. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this debut novel is that it manages a completely fresh take on the identical twins trope, which is something I'd previously thought had been done to death. I'm very happy to be proved wrong and look forward to more from Sarah Bonner.

Holy cow! At first I’m thinking oh another twin trope, but omg this one is so twisty & unexpected! Megan Hardcastle thinks she’s losing her mind when she comes across naughty photos of her twin sister, Leah, on her husband’s phone! Identical twins Leah and Megan are each other’s worse enemy, so when Megan confronts Leah they fight and one dies! Her Perfect Twin is a wonderful debut, it’s fresh and suspenseful! Thank you to @netgalley and @hodderbooks for a gifted copy!

I find a lot of psychological thrillers to be a bit samey samey, which when it comes to basic premise isn't a problem. After all there are only so many ways to do this. Execution is key to rising above the crowd and thats where Sarah Bonner has come into her own here in my opinion.

Yes its Twins. Yes its a husband who isn't terribly lovely. But the characterisation here is beautifully done and the story is as twisty and compelling as you would want from this genre. It isn't at all obvious where everyone will end up and the twin element, often now a cliche, is handled refreshingly with more than surface level depth to it. I was hook line and sinkered and enjoyed it very much.

A kind of twisted Freaky Friday. Recommended.

Oh … my … word - this book is amazing! Usually it takes at least a chapter or two before my interest is sparked in a new book (if at all), but with this story I was totally immersed after the very first paragraph. What a thrilling read. I know a lot of reviewers say ‘I couldn’t put it down’, but I really couldn’t put it down. It’s one of those where your heart is in your mouth and you just HAVE to know what happens at the end.
I read somewhere that an author has failed if the reader doesn’t care what happens to the characters. Well, this author certainly hasn’t failed – she has been an outstanding success. I never repeat the story in a book, and I won’t here because it just has to be read. I felt such empathy for Megan, and was on the edge of my seat all the way through with fingers crossed for a positive ending. I loved the way the story was told from 3 different points of view, and the writing throughout was pure brilliance. So clever, gritty, and believable, with such vivid descriptions of everything. The plot was unique, and the ending was pure genius. I rarely read a book twice, but this one will be an exception. Is this really a debut novel? Wow – give that woman a star!
Thanks so much to the publishers for inviting me to read this brilliant story in return for an honest review.

It’s rare that I sit down to read a new book and don’t stop until I’ve finished it, but this is the case for Sarah’s debut (which reads very much like an author with plenty of finished novels in her CV). Twin Megan finds photographs of herself in a sexy lingerie on her husband’s phone but doesn’t remember wearing it. Knowing it is her twin Leah – a woman who has taken whatever she wanted from her sister’s life since they were teenagers – Megan sets out to ensure Leah will pay (permanently) for her latest action. But if she’s to get away with this successfully, Megan needs to embody Leah and the lavish, social media involved lifestyle she enjoys. And what about her husband? And a certain event that takes place in March 2020 when lockdown brings her plan awry. Can she pretend to be both sisters when she can’t leave her home? There are so many twists and turns to this that your perspective is constantly changing, and the enjoyment is all the more because of it. Clever and breathtaking (really).

Oh this was different from I expected. I thought it would be a straightforward thriller but no, not at all. I must admit my heart sank when I realised we were heading into lockdown in the book. I’ve lived it and I seriously don’t want to read or watch anything about it. I’ve dumped so many tv programmes because of that. But thankfully it was cleverly used. There are so many twists in this book. Some you’ll see others you won’t. Thourough,y enjoyed this and highly recommended.

What a fabulous book - complete head-spinner from start to finish, where nothing is as it seems. Starting from a opening where Megan discovers some pics on her husband's phone of her in some gorgeous but unrecognisable underwear, we know that she's confused, potentially vulnerable, having problems with her memory and sense of self. Then we find out about her identical twin sister, who has taken everything that Megan ever wanted in life and ruined her family in the process.
Its really hard to write a review without giving anything away, but within the first few chapters, the story is moving at such a pace that its hard to hold on to who is saying what, when, how and why. But believe me, everything you think you know us turned on its head again and again til you have no idea which way is up.
Absolute triumph of writing

Wow! What a brilliant book, the best debut I have read for years.

The premise of the story, the evil twin, is not new but this was handled perfectly. It’s tense, suspenseful, creepy and downright good! Right from the start I was hooked, couldn’t put it down. It’s not a light read, concentration is needed to keep track of events, but well worth it. Right up to the end I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be.

Megan and Leah are identical twins, but looks are the only thing they share, they have very different personalities and characters. Through a series of unfortunate events they have become estranged. Their mother is unwell and in a nursing home, where she is very confused, thinking Megan is Leah when she visits.

Megan is married to Chris, who is very coercive and she is not happy.

Leah has everything, but still wants more. She is an influencer and has written a book on the twins early life, which has sold well. Her social media accounts are full of her escapades and celebrity status. She is also very savvy and, due to clever investments, etc., she has become rich. This displeases Megan as the book was jointly written by them before their falling out, and Megan feels she should have profited from sales too.

After seeing a picture of Leah which Chris has on his phone, Megan loses her cool a decides to confront Leah about her involvement with Chris. Inevitably the outcome of the confrontation is unexpected!

All this and Covid rearing it’s ugly head, wow!

Loved this book, would totally recommend.

Thank you NetGalley.

Oh my god, what a read! I was gripped the entire way through, This book was in four parts and each one was fast paced, evil and thrilling
If you love dark, twisty books - this is for you

An outstanding debut with a unique and fascinating premise. How can you live a double life as a murderer when you are trapped in lockdown?

With sharp snappy prose and twisty narrative, this book had me snared in its pages until the early hours of the morning. It just wouldn't let go. I had to discover everything, reading faster and faster to reach its conclusion.

Megan, Leah and Chris are fascinating characters. I loved each of them for very different reasons. They swept me up into their world of dark secrets and suspense. Each twist a further revelation to add to my growing list of suspicions about them. Not that my suspicions were ever proven because each time I thought I had it sussed - Sarah flipped the story again.

The use of the pandemic and the approaching lockdown is incredibly clever. We the reader know what is about to happen but Megan doesn't and this creates a tension of its own. How was she going to get away with it? And as the threat of lockdown grows nearer our fears grow stronger for her. Of course by this point, Sarah has created a claustrophobic cage around us - everywhere is dangerous. How can there be a way out?

Echoes' of Gone Girl and Sleeping with the Enemy - Her Perfect Twin has been expertly crafted and beautifully written. Full of dark humour and suspense this thriller will be a huge hit in 2022

OMG I was up til 2am finishing this as I could not put it down.
A rare occasion where a covid/lockdown mention doesn't spoil a narrative but absolutely enhances it.
A great love triangle in which you get all angles (literally).
Its tense, twists are shocking, and its very hard hitting. The ending is clever and does not disappoint.
The different points of view add an extra dimension and alter perceptions.
Pacey, surprising, intricate.

First off I have to say for a debut novel this was brilliant. I felt as though it was a little bit different to other thrillers but in a good way. It grabbed me from the first page and I didn't want to put it down. Megan has a twin sister that she has not seen for a long time, we discover later into the story why. When she finds a picture of her sister on her husband's phone she wants to know why. After an argument someone comes worse off and how can you get away with killing your sister is to be her. How can she be two people and live a life? it was an interesting mix of what was going to happen, there are many twists and turns that are unexpected and some expected. It was a very cleverly written story and the ending was dramatic. This is an author I will be looking out for in the future. For a debut novel this was a spectacular read.

This book is so good! I really found myself getting involved and confused all at the same time. A very clever plot and good use of the main characters. The "lockdown" added an extra plot twist as well.

Wow this book was unputdownable! Its definitely a top 2021 read! The story follows Leah and Megan twins who are so alike no one can tell them apart. So when Megan kills her perfect twin she starts leading a double life until March 2020 and the covid lockdown, what then? I won't spoil the story as I would recommend anyone to read this book. But I would say it does contain quite detailed descriptions of domestic abuse which I think is worth warning readers about.

The way this book was written made me think I was on a rollercoaster! The twists and turns about which twin was who had me totally engrossed.
I loved the way the characters and storyline went so well together.
Loved this book so much, definitely a book of the year.

What a clever plot. Kept me reading well into the night. Absolutely gripping ! Secret upon secret coming to light on every page

Wow! What a thrilling, page-turning debut – guaranteed to keep you guessing till the end!
The story revolves around Megan who decides to confront her identical twin after discovering she has been having an affair with Megan’s husband, Chris. But when their argument ends in murder, Megan has an unusual advantage when it comes to getting away with the crime – she can live both her own and her sister’s lives so no one even finds out her perfect twin Leah is even dead.
Since I already knew the incredibly hooky premise of this book from the blurb, I had a few ideas of how the plot might play out. How wrong I was. Her Perfect Twin was an absolutely wild ride, so much fun to read and kept me gripped right to the very end. Although most of the characters end up doing fairly terrible things, they are all absolutely compelling and Bonner is able to inject some dark humour along the way which I really enjoyed.

There was a lot of buzz on Twitter about this one alread, so I was so thrilled that I got approved to read this so early on. I went in totally blind. And let me tell you. I read A LOT of thrillers. But this one was PHENOMENAL. Each part left me reeling even more than the previous one. It was so clever and well executed, so well thought of and mapped out. I am still struggling to find words that will make this book justice.

First of all, something which rarely happens to me, the story starts straight from the get go. It doesn't take 50 or 100 pages to get into it, not even 10 pages. It starts from page 1. And that for me was a remarkable thing to do. To have the ability to immerse and engage your reader from page one.

All the way through, I felt I was having heart puplipations, because just when I thought I had everything figured out, there was another plot twist I didn't see coming. One more thing that truly made a tremendous impression, was the fact that the author blended the pandemic (Covid-19) with the storyline so very well, it made me feel I could relate more to what was happening. I know that some books have already started doing this, but I haven't come across with such a relatable depiction of what happened during the lockdowns. So well done and the execution of it was truly superb.

And can we please give a round of applause to the author for making me question everything till the very last page please? Such a clever ending, and such a ingenious way to keep the reader on their toes, till the last few sentences even. It ended just as it begun; intense. And I loved EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of it.

This is how a well written thriller should be. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Thank you to the publisher for an early approval.

Covid has a lot to answer for. When you’re isolated with someone and you just snap it’s almost no surprise. But I don’t want to give too much away other than it’s a very twisty story right up to the end.

4.5 Stars

I read this book in a day. This book has such unique characters and surprising twists and I loved it so much the pages basically turned themselves. I really enjoyed that lockdown was added to the plot without it being a "RONA" book. The tension was palpable and there are characters you love to hate (my favourite kind). Sarah Bonner writes this as though the narrator is speaking directly to the reader and I found that gave the book an intimate feel. What an amazing debut, this was one hell of a read I tell you...pick this book up!

It is hard to believe this is a debut novel, as the unique idea behind this thriller is so superbly executed. Sarah Bonner’s novel explores the relationship between identical twins Megan and Leah whose lives have turned out very differently after Leah turned their family story into a best-selling novel that established her as a famous writer and influencer. Having been bitterly estranged for many years, Megan decides to confront her sister, but their meeting ends with Leah’s murder. In a desperate attempt to avoid detection, Megan embarks on a double life, pretending to continue her life as normal whilst also assuming her sister’s famous persona. But will her husband Chris, her mother-in-law and Leah’s boyfriend Tom, all equally distinctly developed characters, follow her game plan?

I would like to thank the publishers and NetGalley for the free ARC I received in exchange for this unbiased review of what must be one of the best forthcoming thriller releases this year.

4.5 rounded up

To describe Megan’s husband Chris’s standards as exacting is an understatement and he’s most certainly messing with her head. Megan has plenty of baggage as her delightful husband never ceases to remind her. It’s fair to describe her life growing up as dysfunctional and as for her relationship with her twin Leah, it’s very twisted sister. Megan has had enough and decides to confront Leah and it sure is one heck of a confrontation and Megan needs a perfect plan for her perfect twin.

‘Perfect’ is being used with frequency in titles some of which are imperfect, NOT this one! This is just a bit different, it’s a clever psychological thriller that is well written and keeps you constantly in your toes. It’s certainly an exercise in dysfunction, the deliciously dark and devious kind with dastardly discoveries and deepening despair but with devilish developments! I especially like the dark humour which pops up greatly adding to the entertainment value. There are some jaw dropping plot turns that are far from predictable which actually blow your mind keeping you transfixed on the pages. You have no idea who is messing with who but trust me it’s a very juicy game on! Payback really is a (insert as appropriate) bit of a thing! There’s suspense and tension by the truckload. Lockdown of March 2020 is used very cleverly but I hasten to add this is not a Covid story - definitely not. It’s woven into the fabric of the story with its chaos and uncertainty perfectly matching the chaos of ?? whose ?? world, I’m not saying!!! The characterisation is excellent, they’re far from likeable but that’s what makes this such a tasty book! Am I convinced the plot is possible? Do I care? I’m far too engrossed to be remotely bothered!

Overall, what a debut! If you like a jump on a rollercoaster read with as many loop the loops as possible then climb on board this one!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Hodder and Stoughton for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Her Perfect Twin is a brilliantly twisty tale that will leave your jaw-dropping as you turn the pages. I could not drag myself away from this lockdown thriller. When the lockdown was first imposed, we all found ourselves sitting at home wondering how other people were coping. This book tells a lockdown story that will have you reeling.
Sarah Bonner has delivered a truly mind-blowing debut novel with Her Perfect Twin. She tells her story in various parts, from different characters perspectives allowing one to experience events from different angles. I could not put this book down. I cannot wait to see who this author comes up with next. I will eagerly be waiting for her next novel.
Megan grew up with an identical twin who wanted and took everything she had. When she finds a picture of her sister on her husband’s phone Megan is furious. In search of answers, she visits her estranged sister. When Leah confirms that she has been having an affair with Chris, the ensuing argument turns to murder.
The only way Megan can get away with murder is to become Leah. Her new double life proves challenging, but when lockdown hits, she has no idea how to live two lives. Discovering that someone knows her secret is the last thing she needs.
This is an incredibly twisty tale that had me hooked from start to finish. The author weaves a complex web as she gives you various characters perspectives, never allowing the reader to see what is coming. I loved the twists and turns.
Megan is a wonderfully crafted character that left me loving her while I questioned some of her actions. The author created this complex woman with remarkable detail allowing you to bond with her and support even her worst choices. My heart broke for this insecure, damaged woman and just like that she turns around and shows remarkable strength that left me in awe. There is not a single thing you can fault about the creation of this character.
I loved this story and I gladly gave this book a five-star rating. Her Perfect Twin is one of the best debut novels I have read. I found myself fully engrossed in this book from start to finish. I cannot wait to see what Sarah Bonner send our way next.
Thriller fans are in for a treat when they reach for this book. While it is a lockdown story, it does not focus on the pandemic. It is incredibly twisty and beautifully wrapped up leaving you fully engrossed from start to finish. If you are looking for a complex, twisty tale that will have you reading late into the night – Then I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Megan has always lived in the shadow of her twin Leah. What Leah wants, Leah takes. When she finds photos of Leah on her husband's phone, she has to have it out with her. But things go badly wrong. So Megan tries to lead a double life as she pretends to be both of them. Except lockdown happens.

Totally fantastic read the author drew me in from the start. I was a little worried when I realised it was set during the pandemic but its not really about it, just the lockdown. Its got a fun side as well as a dark side. Lots of twists and tension. I really enjoyed this book.

Sibling Rivalry…
A sibling argument descends into murder in this genuinely tense, gripping suspense. To get away with this murder Megan must become her twin sister. But, nobody could have anticipated a lockdown. How can Megan continue to live this seemingly double life? Cleverly done, immersive and edge of seat creepy this is a delicious, one sitting read.

What a fantastic book. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters or their behaviours but this book was literally jaw dropping. It has suspense in spades and more twists than a country lane. Great for whiling away a rainy afternoon and once you pick up this book you won’t be able to put it down. Looking forward to reading more by this author,

What a ride! This book captured my attention from the opening page. Twins that aren’t close and don’t even like each other. One ends up murdered by the other.

Megan and Leah had a rivalry which was more than just the usual sibling disagreements. Megan is married to Chris. Chris is sleeping with Leah. In the beginning of the novel we learn that Megan discovers that her husband and twin have been having an affair. They’ve also been messing with her head. When Megan approaches Leah and murders her, she’s got some things to sort out to get away with murder but when you’ve got a nasty husband with a mean evil streak and a virus on the rise, things start getting a little tricky.

This is the first novel that I’ve read that takes place during covid. The pandemic is there in the background and adds to the complexities of getting away with murder but this isn’t a story about covid. This is a rollercoaster of a ride with all sorts of twists and the whole time reading it you’re wonder right until the very end what’s going to happen.

This was a great read and I’m grateful for the advanced copy granted to me by Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton.

Twins Megan and leah have never really got along. Leah has always done and got what she wanted no matter who it might hurt and has got very rich in the process. But now she's gone a step too far when Megan finds out that includes sleeping with her husband! Megan goes to confront Leah, an argument ensues and Leah ends up dead! Megan has 2 choices-admit to murder or try to live both lives simultaneously. How can she keep up the pretence? Especially now the country is in lockdown. Before long things start to unravel and she can no longer keep her secret safe. This was a fabulous debut novel. So many twists and turns I doubted myself and my judgement through to the very end! What a superb read! Highly recommend!

Wow! What a book. How can this be a debut novel?
This is fast paced, clever with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing.
One of my favourite books this year and it’s definitely worthy of 5 stars. I loved this book.

Oh gripping thrillers, 'think-about-the-book-when-you-aren't-reading-it' thrillers, how I missed you!
So fast-paced, gripping and twisty, all thriller readers need this book in their lives!
I honestly could barely keep up with the characters, the multiple POVs, the twists and gasp-out-loud moments and I loved every second.
My last few thrillers haven't been anywhere near this good, and I am so glad there are new thrillers coming out that still manage to surprise me and keep me gripped for the entirety of the novel. I cannot wait for more from this author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. There were many reasons for this. Firstly, Sarah Bonner takes the age old identical twin theme and turns it on its head. When Megan finds pictures of her estranged twin sister on her husband's phone it sets off a chain of events that leave her having to act the role of both sisters if she is to stay out of prison. There are multiple twists within this tale which keep you guessing to the end. I did guess how the final outcome would be decided as the clue to this appeared much at earlier in the story but this did not detract from its impact. The second reason I have for finding the story so enjoyable is that the writer did not ignore the events of Lockdown and was able to skilfully weave them into the plot so that some of the action is driven by Megan's inability to get away from her husband. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good thriller that is a little bit different.

Wow, wow, wow! What fantastic writing and amazing character development! A truly unique tale, full of twisty turns, chilling chills, thrilling thrills, and gasp worthy shocks! Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and was not only engrossing but completely unputdownable! Very tense and fast paced! I cannot recommend this one enough, it’s not to be missed, but plan for one heck of a hangover! Highly, highly, highly recommend!!!

Wow-what a fabulous read. Very different, yet filled with suspense, thrills and twists, A wonderful debut. I can't wait for the next book.

This took what I thought it was going to be and turned it on its head at every juncture, and It’s wonderful to have all your expectations subverted in that way. It’s a real romp of a thriller, and once I had put myself in the fiendish minds of the narrators I was completely along for the ride, and what a ride it was. Like Gone Girl meets Gaslight I was never sure who or what to believe which made this a truly compelling read, which ties up very satisfyingly (if a little disturbingly!)

Release date 20th January 2022 Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and Sarah Bonner for the digital advanced copy of her perfect win in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

The perfect twin follows Megan after she finds herself in a predicament she has just killed her identical twin, the only way she thinks she will getaway with murder is if she becomes Leah as well as Megan. With the marriage she’s in not a happy one and with her commuting to work each week it’s easier then she originally thanks. The question is will she getaway with imitating her twin or more importantly can getaway with murder?

I absolutely loved this book! I didn’t have a clue what it was about when I picked it up so was utterly surprised when Megan kills Leah, now I only include that in the review because it is on the blurb for the book so technically no spoilers! What I find so compelling about this book as I really had no idea where it was going any which way I started to question whether Megan even was a twin at one point because I know that was a saucy twist of another twin book I had read last year.

Megan is our lead protagonist and what I really enjoy about this book it’s told to us in first person but it’s also told to us as if someone is talking directly to you. I absolutely love it when author really brings me into the story an I feel like I’m a part of a little secret conversation. The writing in general was done so well and very distinctive between characters, but I won’t say more about that. Megan is a woman in a bad situation espically regarding her relationship with her sister and husband . It is absolutely no wonder why Megan sees Leah’s life as an escape and the answer to her problems, or is it!

The book is set in four parts and this really adds to the drama of the book, again without saying any spoilers all I will say is be prepared be very prepared to have a WTF moment because believe me I literally read one paragraph like five times in complete disbelief. So yeah if you find that the book is a bit of a slow burner which at times it can be power through coz I promise you it’s worth it.

In general as a psychological thriller I think that her perfect twin is bang on the money! It is well written coma has you thinking so many different theories at once, I find myself on edge throughout the entire book and in general it was a blew my mind!

Would I recommend her perfect twin? Yes I would I find it to be so enjoyable and honestly with all the twists and turns I truly didn’t know what I thought anymore when it came to the book outcome but I loved it either way. I happily rate this five stars, her perfect twin is a fantastic debut novel by Sarah Bonner and i highly recommend can’t wait for the books to follow.

Megan and Leah were identical twins that even their parents had problems telling apart. When their dad took off their identity bracelets for bath time, he could not remember which was which. As children, the pair of them often switched places with each other but, as they grew older, although they still looked identical they were very different.

Leah was the more dominant twin, who always came out on top and was constantly in competition with Megan. After an incident when they were teenagers, Megan could never forgive her. When they briefly got together later in life, Leah ripped her off yet again.

When Megan finds photos and messages on her husband’s phone of Leah, it is clear that they have been having an affair. Megan has to go to confront her now successful millionaire sister. To say it did not go to plan is a gross understatement. So a double life begins for Megan.

It is a brilliant storyline of being pushed over the edge one too many times. The story is told through just one twin, so you don’t get to know Leah, apart from how other people see her. Once the worm has turned, it is like Megan gets a new strength about her. It is a twisty, topsy-turvy tale. It is a gripping story with so many surprises.

I wish to thank Net Galley and the publisher for an e-copy of this book, which I have reviewed honestly.

I devoured this book as fast as I can! With dark, compelling, unlikable characters, and a constant stream of clever, well-executed, identity-blurring twists, Sarah Bonner's debut makes for a page-turning read. Every time the narrative turned on its head, I had absolutely no idea where it was going or who would come out on top... and I loved it!

Wow! What an absolutely phenomenal debut this is! It is one of my favourite books I have read this year and deserves to be a huge success in 2022!

This story is primarily told from the perspective of Megan in the first person, and I found her to be the most fantastic main character! We meet Megan as she discovers photographs of her estranged identical twin sister Leah on her husband’s phone, and understandably wants answers! Leah has the fame, fortune and freedom to do whatever she wants, a freedom Megan could only dream of, given how controlling and absolutely awful her husband Chris is. But when Megan confronts Leah about the photographs, their argument escalates and turns to murder! The only way Megan can think of to get away with killing her twin is to become her (I loved Tom, who Megan meets whilst living Leah’s life)! But when lockdown hits, Megan is faced with a big problem. Because how will she be able to continue living two lives?!

I never once wanted to put this book down and was enthralled right from the outset. It is such a gripping and incredibly plotted story full of the most incredible twists and surprises throughout! Part 2 in particular made me feel terror and apprehension at what could happen and the change of narrator here worked incredibly well. Then the revelation at the end of this section leading into Part 3 was pure genius! Part 3 was therefore a particular favourite section of the book for me (but I absolutely loved the whole book) and Part 4 was very clever too (I cannot say anything more about the details of these sections as I don’t want to give anything away)! I also really loved the concluding part of this story. I had the biggest smile on my face as I turned the last page!

I have enjoyed Her Perfect Twin so much and really didn’t want it to have to come to an end. I cannot wait to see what Sarah Bonner writes in the future!

I received an E-ARC copy of ‘Her Perfect Twin’ by Sarah Bonner through NetGalley when the publisher Hodder & Stoughton approved my request in return for my honest review. Thank you to the publisher for my approval.

This book follows Megan who is stuck in a cheating and abusive relationship. Her Husband is not only cheating on her, but with her twin sister Leah.

Megan confronts her twin, but the argument turns into murder.

She starts to live as both Megan and Leah, until she can work out what to do next.

Then lockdown hits, how can she continue being both twins?

How will she survive lockdown with her husband?

This book is amazing, it is intense, emotional and has a strong female lead character.

The characters are believable and the way the author writes from the different characters points of view delves into their personalities even more.

There were times I was on the edge of my seat, others where I was angry and upset. (With the characters, not the book).

You never know where the storyline is going to take you next and there are plenty of shocks along the way.

Overall, an intense and emotional thriller with shocking revelations and secrets.

Finding a shocking, questionable photo on your husband's phone can trigger all kinds of actions or reactions.

Leah has always taken things from her sister, Megan. All sisters do that, right? She didn't even share the huge money pot earned from an exposé-style, best-seller of their family story.

Was that the final straw or are there other factors?

You just know this is going to be a tense storm in print from the start.

This definitely isn't your average 'thriller' - if there even is such a thing - I'm sure everyone will have several shocker moments along the way! Just when something makes your mind race & you think ahead, something else will surface to spark another 'OMGosh' moment!

Sisterly love is one thing. Being a twin is extra special but as we see, deep in the pages of drama, it can get darker than you'd ever imagine.

So many threads of paranoia, greed, deception & jealousy are cleverly woven together in a carefully crafted work of art! You'll be second-guessing your second guesses throughout this story.

How different can two lives be but also have such an undeniable, parallel existence? We'll find out how much difference a brief moment or one quick decision can make.
It's all in the details.

I'd definitely recommend this one & will be looking out for Sarah Bonner's work in the future.

Wow! I absolutely raced through this whipsmart lockdown thriller. Sarah has crafted a true page-turner here, and I was thoroughly invested in Megan's story. This kept me guessing all the way through, and even by the end I wasn't sure who to trust. Testament to Sarah's brilliant writing that I loved all the characters (even the truly despicable ones). Clever, relevant and so very twisty, I thoroughly recommend HER PERFECT TWIN.

This was actually surprisingly a good psychological thriller! I simply couldn't put the book down and got so engrossed into the book from the beginning till the end!

Megan discovers a photo of her estranged identical twin sister Leah on her husband's phone. Leah Patterson has everything--fame, money and she can get any man she wants. Then Megan kills Leah and is trying to live a double life...until COVID lockdown happens.

The story is told from the multiples of POVs--the first part of the story is told from Megan's perspective, the second part by Chris, Megan's psychotic husband, the third part by Leah and the fourth part by Chris' lawyer Jeremy. So it's a bit interesting to get into these characters' heads and see what they are really thinking about and all these emotions, feelings and thoughts. The writing was intense and the author has done a tremendous job drawing the reader into the story and making the reader feel like they are a part of the story! I feel like I am watching a really a good psychological thriller movie as I was reading the book, wondering which of the characters should I trust, who is actually telling the truth and who is the actually victim and killer. I was surprised that this was actually the author's debut book and she did a good job writing a damn good fast paced thriller.

Yeah, there were so many twists and turns that your mind get confused and the ending was unexpected with a slight cliffhanger in the end. I just felt like I am on a roller coaster ride while reading this book!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

When Megan discovers photographs of her estranged identical twin sister on her husband's phone, she wants answers. Leah already has everything Megan has ever wanted. Fame, fortune, freedom to do what she wants. And when Megan confronts Leah, an argument turns to murder.

The only way Megan can get away with killing her twin is to become her. But then lockdown hits. How can she continue living two lives? And what happens if someone else knows her secret too?

This book is a rollercoaster with more twists and turns that you can imagine. Dark, gripping, it makes a perfect use of the lockdown. Very cleverly plotted too.

This is one the most deliciously dark and evil books I have read for some time and I absolutely adored everything about it.
So this was a very different premise to a lot of thrillers it has a completely unique plot line that had my head spinning and it was written in such a brilliant way that I just couldn’t guess what was about to happen or predict the ending and thats what made the book so amazing, gripping and full of twists. When you read a lot of thrillers as I do you do sometimes become a little jaded with similar type scenarios but this was so clever and imaginative it was a joy to read and I just raced through it!
I don’t rehash plots it’s always better to just pick a book up not knowing what to expect I think and my goodness I defy anyone to not to get completely sucked into this one right from the start so please do yourself a favour and grab this it really is going to be a big hit so don’t miss out it honestly is that good.
Many thanks to the author Sarah Bonner you have a sure fire 5 star winner here girl !
My thanks also to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family.

With a stack of 2022 books already lined up on my digital bookshelves the decision as to what to pick up first is a lovely dilemma (if you can even call it that!) to be faced with. I chose Her Perfect Twin on the basis that as a twin myself the title was instantly intriguing. OMG!! What a fantastic utterly brilliant choice I made. I’ve been shying away from reading many psychological thrillers of late because whilst some are good many are simply average and a few are downright disappointing. However this is a psychological thriller to blow your mind! Even more impressive is the fact it’s a debut! Brace yourself for a dizzying, jaw dropping high octane and discombobulating read that will leave you wondering whether you’re upside down, the right way up, or if your heart is in your mouth or your stomach. My eyes were popping out of their sockets along with my head which was still spinning after I came up for air, reeling from shock but revelling in all the calculated cunning and dirty double crossings. I had to constantly remind myself to breathe, my heart hammering in my chest, blindsided by every audacious, duplicitous twist and I loved every single second! This is exactly how psychological thrillers should make you feel. I think it’s fair to say this is without doubt one of the best thrillers I’ve read in ages.

As a twin I’m fascinated by the dynamic that exists between siblings born just minutes apart. From my own personal experience I’ve found there’s a special, unique bond that’s pretty much unbreakable even allowing for the usual petty jealousies and rivalries that are part and parcel of any sibling relationship. However having lived in the shadow of my elder twin since childhood I maybe held a smidgeon of sympathy for Megan (for all of five minutes!) whose dysfunctional relationship with twin Leah is off the scale in terms of hatred and competitiveness. There’s no love or loyalty lost between these two! Dysfunctional is the key word here, describing not only the twins relationship but their childhood too, the family blown apart by a most shocking revelation. It would appear Megan has swapped one damaging, destructive relationship for another since her marriage to Chris is just as toxic, trapping her into a life where manipulative mind games are the norm. Obsession, possession, paranoia, power and control denote these characters lives so from the outset the atmosphere is tense and threatening, verging on the absolute terrifying as the plot progresses. In this metaphorical game of tug of war at least one of these characters is going to snap, the outcome of which is insanely, fiendishly wicked and then some! By trying to redress the balance of power anything goes in the most outrageous, scandalous cutthroat case of one upmanship I’ve encountered. I couldn’t get enough of it!

Told from multiple points of view, one character at a time,I liked the construction of this psychological thriller which definitely messes with your head and keeps you on tenterhooks. The twists are superb, the suspense almost unbearable and the effortless way the author has integrated the country’s first lockdown into the narrative, making it a crucial element of the plot is very clever. It’s so well plotted although certain aspects are probably implausible but for entertainment value it’s a knockout. The reason this psychological thriller is so good is largely owing to the characterisation. Some of the best characters are the ones who seem to possess not an ounce of humanity so if you love vile, amoral, dangerous, conniving characters you’ll enjoy spending time with this despicable bunch. The auras surrounding these characters are black through and through so by rights I should have found myself loathing every single one of them. Instead I found their dark natures bizarrely entrancing, hoping for further acts of malice and treachery and lapping up every single instance of warped, behaviour with relish. The more twisted their lives became the greater my overall enjoyment!

It’s probably obvious that I was mightily impressed with Her Perfect Twin even though neither of them can claim that title! On the basis of this debut Sarah Bonner is one to watch. I didn’t have to think twice about awarding this novel 5 ⭐️ and recommend you add this to your TBR post haste. I’m excited to read more from this author in the future.

My thanks as always to the publisher Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely LOVED this book!

Very intriguing premise, and excellent delivery. The story is twisted and dark, and switches the characters' POV always at the point where you thought you were starting to figure out the truth... only to have everything turned upside down again! I always enjoy thrillers where the main characters are twins, as they are usually quite dark, but this one exceeded my expectations! Every character has a very shady side, but that doesn't mean I didn't warm up to them... as bad as it could sound I was actually cheering them up at the end, despite their bad choices and actions.

Last but not least, FINALLY a book where COVID and lockdown are not only swiftly included in the story, but play an important part in it. These last years changed our lives considerably, and I was glad to finally see these events recognised in a thriller.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton, who granted me a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The joy of finding a book that you get so caught up in cannot be underestimated…having read so many of Bonner’s reviews on Twitter, I was desperate to read her debut. I am stunned!
Due out in January 2022, I’m so grateful to NetGalley for letting me get my hands on this early…and I’m desperate to read it again to try and make sense of the twisted mind-games and genius plotting that I’ve been fortunate enough to read.
The book started with a humdinger of a quandary. Megan finds a picture of herself on her husband’s phone wearing electric blue underwear. Only she doesn’t have any. I cannot imagine what would go through your mind in this situation, but when we learn Megan has an identical twin her behaviour and subsequent actions make sense. At this point I imagined we’d get an engaging thriller as we followed Megan try to cover up her actions, but really wasn’t expecting anything too out of the familiar.
If I could only take back all my pre-judgments I would be happy, because within a relatively short space of time we are given a complete bolt out of the blue. Nothing will be given away here, but it didn’t take long for me to realise we were in far from familiar territory and being played. And there were more shocks to come!
Told in four parts, this story was so cleverly constructed that I really want to go back and reread it to see which elements I’d missed in the initial read. The characters were far from idealised, but those flaws actually played a key role in the success of the plot.
I am so excited to see what friends make of this when it’s released…though I’m still not entirely sure there isn’t something I missed!

What a rollercoaster of a book #HerPerfectTwin is! Absolutely unputdownable! More twists and turns than a fairground ride. Also gives us a great insight in to what life was like during the Covid Pandemic! Psychological thriller of the best kind. I will definitely be looking out for more from #SarahBonner Great read!

Many psychological thrillers are described as having 'jaw dropping twists' and ;Her Perfect Twin by Sarah Bonner not just lives upto this description but actually surpasses it. Honestly, I now looking at friends of mine who are twins and wondering "Which is which?"! Hahaa.
Anyway back to my review. At the start of the book we meet Megan, one half of the infamous Patterson twins. She is in a state of panic having just discovered a photo of herself on her husband;s phone. The problem is that she is wearing clothes that she does not own in the photo and she also does not recall having the photo taken. As she husband Chris enters the scene, the reader encounters the slow burning sense of fear from Megan - a sense that all is not well in the marriage, and that Chris may be dangerous. Though whether in a physical or psychological sense, we are not yet sure.
Megan then tells us about her challenging relationship with her twin Leah. And the terrible drama that results when one of the twins is murdered. And the games of cat and mouse begin.
Stories involving twins can often descend into cliches but Bonner rises above such issues with indepth characterisations and providing each character the opportunity to tell their own version of the story.

It's very hard to believe that this is a debut novel, Sarah Bonner has written a book that will blow your mind. I've read so many thrillers that take you on a rollercoaster of twists and turns but I can honestly say that this had me so confused, (in a good way) i was so enthralled and invested in the storyline. I was pulled in so many directions by the protagonists, each of them was convincing enough to pull the wool over the readers eyes. This book is a must read for any fans of psychological dramas. Many thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. I am under no obligation to provide a review

I absolutely LOVED this book, and how not all twins are alike on the inside. The story of absolutely identical twins Megs and Leah is written in a modern conversational, easy to read style, and as a reader I felt that each character was talking to me. The way the plot is woven around Megan, Leah and Chris, the husband, kept me on the edge of my seat, and I kept on being surprised just when I thought I couldn't be surprised any more! The way each character has a chance to tell the story from their point of view works well with the twin theme and the ending will leave you with your jaw on the ground! Read this book!!!

4.75⭐️ Which I’ve marked up
A very strong debut domestic/psychological thriller.

Meghan has a not so great marriage to Chris and has an estranged relationship with her twin sister Leah. The story is told from the 3 POV plus one other.

It caught my attention early on. I like that it doesn’t start with the premise of a perfect life which is turned on it’s head.

It has a good pace, I liked the storyline. I don’t know how plausible some of the scenarios actually are, but the author sold them to me. It utilises covid and lockdown in the plot.
Some great twists and turns. I really like Meg, and very sympathetic to her situation. I was rooting for her throughout.
I really loved this book, it kept me gripped with a good level of tension throughout. I highly recommend it.

What a brilliant, intense, surprising and so, so clever psychological thriller. This is the kind of novel where you just don't know what is coming next and when it does: wow!

Identical twin sisters, Megan and Leah have always had a complex relationship which resulted in their estrangement. When Megan finds compromising photos of Leah on her husband's phone she wants answers. A confrontation with Leah leads to her murder. To get away with the crime Megan must become two people. Can she get away with it? You'll have to read the book to find out.

This really is an incredible, edge of your seat kind of read. I couldn't put it down.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a way to start the New Year! You will open the pages of this book and instantly you will be drawn into the dysfunctional story of identical twins Leah and Megan. Also thrown into the mix, is Megan's coercive husband Chris - it's safe to say that these three characters all have "issues"- these are not people you want to live next door to!

I don't want to say too much about the plot as I want everyone to experience it for themselves, but it's safe to say that it has more twists and turns than an Alton Tower's rollercoaster.

Sarah Bonner gets into your head and completely messes with it! The book is split into several parts, and each part is told by a different character - when each character told their version of events I truly believed what they were saying and so my opinion was constantly changing, and just when I thought I had figured out who did what...BOOM! Another twist!

My first book of the New Year, and to be honest, I don't know how any other books are going to compete with it!

This is a book that I had to keep reading well into the night, I just couldn’t put it down. It deals with identical twins, domestic abuse, jealousy and love in a climate that is just starting to get hit with Covid. So well written, and a debut novel at that, it has just the right amount of pace, told from several points of view, which obviously makes you consider and reconsider where you think it’s all going to end. This is a really interesting twist on the usual twins story, one I would recommend everyone to read. A real page turner, can’t wait for the next book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

An amazing read by Sarah Bonner. To find this is a debut is surprising. The twists and shockers in this book keep the reader captivated the whole way through. Megan and Leah are twins, close until early adulthood, then events and attitudes separate them.
Megan's husband is Chris is a worryingly controlling man, and plays mind games with Megan throughout the book. This is integral to the plot, as is the covid 19 lockdown. The plot is well developed and the characters motives and actions are well matched and paced within the timeframe.
Faced with travel restrictions, and pandemic living, the dangers and drama of covering up a crime, keep the reader glued to the book.
A great read.

This was absolutely spectacular. Spine-tinglinh, edge of your seat thrilling! I cannot thank netgalley and Hodder enough for giving me an arc because this was unbelievable!

What a great thriller this is.
Chris and Megan have been married for three years when she discovers that he has slept with her twin Leah.
Growing up Leah always took from Megan and she has had enough. So she confronts Leah and murder is committed.
This is told from the POV of the twins, Chris and the lawyer Jeremy Crumpton.
This really had my head spinning at times. Who is telling the truth?
Chris is a piece of work, gaslighting his wife, I actually wanted to lump him one . Very cleverly written to make it so believable.
The lawyer was such a pompous twat.
A very twisty plot and just when you think you've worked it out another twist rears it's head.
A really great debut which I'm sure will do very well.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Shocking, intense and perfectly plotted thriller!

First things first, it’s so hard to believe that this is Sarah Bonner’s debut novel! This thriller is so astute, perfectly plotted and paced that it feels like it was penned by an author well into their career. Every thriller these days seems to profess to have a jaw-dropping, heart-pounding twist, but I can honestly say that Her Perfect Twin genuinely has multiple jaw to the floor revelations and twists (think Alice Feeney level too!). In fact, it’s so twisted that it makes a corkscrew look like a ruler! What I loved about this though, was that the book revels in the deliciousness of its surprises. I really felt like Bonner was toying with me, much like the characters manipulate each other in the narrative. I couldn’t get enough!

This book is very much about it’s mixed up and rather unhinged characters! They are a blend of unlikeable, incredible and gob-smacking traits that makes each and every one absolutely riveting to read about. Despite some questionable actions, I wholeheartedly spent the entire novel routing for Megan. She is a fascinating character, who’s life turns on its head in an instant. She’s a victim, but she takes her pain and torment, turning it into strength and power. She’s a really clever and surprising character and I was so engrossed in her journey. By comparison, Megan’s twin Leah is a complex character that I moved between loathing and feeling sorry for. She’s manipulative, dark and cruel, but she clearly has deep routed issues from her childhood that go some way to explain why she is so messed up. I really enjoyed discovering more about the differences between the twins and the challenging childhood they had. Finally, Chris (Megan’s husband) is just something else! He’s a spiteful, vindictive, utterly despicable individual and I feel a visceral hatred for him. I love when a book evokes such strong reactions and emotions and I genuinely would love to punch Chris in the face (and HARD!). He’s one of the most horrible characters I’ve ever read, with his gaslighting and morally bereft attitude to others. He’s another surprising character and he’s a truly exceptional fictional villain. My heart was racing with rage as I read more about him!

The last aspect I want to talk about is the setting. I have very firmly been of the mindset that I’m not ready to start reading books that reference the pandemic, but I found that it perfectly complemented Her Perfect Twin. I should point out that this is not a story about Covid, but the pandemic and lockdown are there in the background and only come more to the forefront to progress the narrative. It adds a whole new layer of tension to the proceedings within the plot, but also poses some very serious and real questions (like, just how did people survive being locked down with an abusive partner?). As well as making the novel a real edge of your seat, nail-bitter, it also made it a really thought-provoking read. It’s definitely opened my eyes to how the pandemic can be used to great effect in fiction.

This book is screaming out to be turned into a television series and I really hope to see it on screen in the future. In the meantime, I can’t wait to see what Sarah Bonner has in store for us next!

Having read a huge number of psychological thrillers in my time I now tend to ration them out as there are only so many permutations on a theme. Here we have twins, along with a less than lovely husband for poor chief protagonist Megan, but this book is superbly executed and the twists and turns entertained me so very much!

The story opens with a confidential voice by Megan, twin to Leah and wife of Chris. What she imparts is not so shocking but you will enjoy the depth of characterisation that lets you believe in every aspect of her tale.

I can't say a lot else about the plot as this is one book where it is best to dive in and enjoy the ride! An outstanding read from a talented debut author..

I honestly can't praise this enough, it is easily the best book I've read this year.

Her Perfect Twin tells the tale of identical twins, Megan and Leah. The book starts by setting the scene and talking about the girls' love lives and I questioned whether it was the sort of book for me. How wrong I was! A few chapters in, I was thrown into one of the most shocking, twisty and emotional stories I've read for a long time.

The book was set during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was really cleverly timed in order to add another dimension and even more tension.

This book needs trigger warnings for gaslighting and domestic abuse and is hard to read in some places. For me, this highlighted the quality of the writing and just how invested I was in the characters.

Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a psychological thriller.

Unputdownable!

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me the ARC in return for an honest review.

Well this is one humdinger of a tale of duplicity - in every possible sense. Secrets, deception, family estrangement ... murder. Her Perfect Twin is a wonderfully addictive read that combines intriguing, if not entirely likeable characters, with fabulous storytelling and a narrative that is twistier than a plate of noodles.

The basic premise - twins estranged by the kind of inflated sibling rivalry that only two people who share everything, including looks, can achieve - is perhaps nothing new. But Sarah Bonner has taken this estrangement, this competition that exists between Megan and Leah and kicks it up a notch with a rather understated confrontation that results in the ultimate act of separation that can never be taken back - murder. But it is so much more than a simple family argument gone nuclear, it's a story of gaslighting, double crossing and some truly twisted and tangled relationships. A truly toxic relationship set against a backdrop of the pandemic which adds a layer of jeopardy and tension to an already fraught tale.

Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, what certain characters were capable of, there was some new revelation that got the mind whirring and the hackles rising. It's a strange kind of read in that, in truth, I should probably feel only a modicum of sympathy for Megan. In spite of everything, no matter what it appears is happening around her, she is a killer and there can never really be any justification for that. And yet ... It's not that simple, and there are few others in the book exactly setting the correct tone for morality either, the victim very much included. But it is Megan's husband, Chris, who really makes the skin crawl. from the very beginning there was just something very unsavoury about him, something just below the surface that kept me on edge and the author has done a great job of presenting the duplicity of his character - the charmer and the abuser - in a way that feel authentic and often menacing.

You do have to wonder, even with identical twins, how easy it really would be for Megan to replicate Leah's life, to become her, and there are many times where the truth that is only so very slightly buried, moves closer to the surface. I could never quite tell if I wanted Megan to get away with her deception or be caught out, but I had certainly made a decision by the end if the book. And if you think you know how the book with end, be prepared for a surprise. There is a pivotal moment where everything changes and the tempo steps up a gear, where you think maybe Megan is finally losing her advantage, and the pandemic and lock down certainly doesn't help her one iota. But ... everything about this book is a kind of distortion, even the way in which the story concludes. The clues are there, the execution, the way they are woven into the action, very clever. Did the ending leave me satisfied and smiling? It did actually. Was justice served? Well ... you'll have to find out for yourself, won't you.

Pacy, twisted, and full of surprises, I'm just glad I get on with my sisters. Mostly. It's a cracking debut from Sarah Bonner and I'm intrigued to see what comes next.

Bait and switch

4.5 stars rounded up.

Despite temporarily swearing off books with the word “perfect” in the title this one managed to find its way onto my arc shelf. And I’m so glad it did, it was an impressive story.

Megan Hardcastle has been married to Christopher for around four years. Initially charming and sweet, Chris seems to be becoming more controlling and harsh. Both of them travel extensively with their jobs so at least they are not constantly together but Megan is starting to feel uncomfortable around Chris and he is constantly gaslighting her. Then she finds a photo of herself on the marital bed in electric blue lingerie. But Megan doesn’t have any blue lingerie, nevertheless she still checks. But no. So obviously its her twin sister Leah.

Megan and Leah might look identical but they are very different people. Leah uses and discards others like tissues. She has taken pretty much everything that Megan ever valued. She has made a fortune by selling THEIR story that Megan did most of the writing of. There is no love lost between them. She goes to Leah’s place to confront her and an argument ends in murder. One bang on the head was all it took for Megan to accidentally kill her sister. Not a spoiler, it’s in the blurb and happens early in the book. But what to do? Megan stuffs Leah into a freezer until she can work things out.

But then the realisation dawns - what if she could make out that she, Megan, was dead and she picked up Leah’s life with all that lovely money and no husband? This is when it starts to get interesting. With echoes of Gone Girl, part 2 of the story is told from Chris’s POV and he knows much more about what Megan has been doing than she thinks. Chris is a thoroughly nasty, scheming piece of work but he is also very clever and crafty.

It’s very cat and mouse from then on and you are never sure which one is going to win the battle of wits. Every time you think it’s a slam dunk another twist stops you in your tracks. None of the characters are very likeable but, bloody h*ll it’s a great story. This deliciously dark and twisted tale kept me thoroughly entertained from the first page to the last. Many thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Well, this one kept me guessing right until the very end! A top-class thriller from Sarah Bonner—twisty, unsettling, pacey and clever. Lots of dark humour in there too, meaning it manages to be entertaining AND terrifying—no mean feat! Wow, this was a twisty book. I couldn’t put it down. My only gripe was the sex in this book. I know it was essential to the story but, sometimes it was far too graphic and was too often. But apart from that I totally loved this book. I loved the twist at the end and I really didn’t know how this one would turn out. Brilliant. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and just flew through reading it. I don't often give 5 stars but this book deserved it.
It grabs the reader from the start and keeps you engaged all the way through, throwing in lots of twists along the way. I appreciate books where you can't predict the ending and this was a fine example.
The characters are well drawn and each narrate a part of the book giving the reader an insight into their thoughts and feelings. I was on team Megan despite her actions but it was a nail biting time for her especially during lockdown which added another complication into the mix.
An original well written book that is hard to believe is a debut novel. I expect it to be a big hit and hope I read more from this author in the future.

Well... this book took me all round the houses and back again as it delivered shock after surprise all the way through. Megan and Leah are identical twins. When we first meet them, they are estranged and have taken very different paths in their lives. One day Megan discovers a photo on her husband's phone. A photo of her which she doesn't remember him taking. Of her wearing lingerie that she doesn't remember owning. Only one explanation comes to mind. It isn't her. It's Leah. So she goes to confront her. And kills her in a fit of passion. Oh My Days. We then move into "how to get away with murdering your identical twin" territory. Obvious really. Just become her for a while to take the heat off and then, when the time is right, abandon the fake life... A tricky enough prospect in itself but one she thinks she can pull off. After all, her sister spent her life on the internet, shouldn't be hard to work it all out. Yeah, should work... Apart from she didn't factor in that virus. And lockdown. How can she be two people when she has to say home...?
This was the book that kept on giving. It starts off simple enough but then things get rather "interesting" and well, I'm still not 100% certain I have it all straight in my head. Not that the ending is ambiguous, although it kind of is, a bit. But it's also so very clever! Especially when we hear from Chris... And things take a very dark turn indeed.
Characterisation is interesting, shall we just say. I really didn't like any of the main characters but that in itself is kudos for the author as, despite my disliking, I did want to find out what happened to them. Ok so it also started off a bit slowly, for me anyway. But there's quite a bit to set up initially - you'll see that gain fruition at the end when it all comes crashing down!
All in all, a cracking read that, although I did have to suspend belief along the way a tad, I thoroughly enjoyed and which left me satisfied (and smiling) at the end. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Is it believable to live a double life? Especially if the life you are taking over is your twin sister?
Megan discovers that her husband has been having an affair with her sister and social media Instagram lover Leah...the complete opposite to her shy self.
But Megan's husband is cruel and brutal and can't wait to get rib of his wife.
When things suddenly take a turn in Megan's favour she takes it with both hands, with deadly consequences.
Who will be alive at the end?

Wow Her Perfect Twin had my head in a spin just from the description and that continued throughout the book. It was one hell of a ride which kept me guessing throughout all the way to the shocking ending.
I highly recommend it and look forward to reading more books by Sarah Bonner in the future.

If Sarah Bonner’s debut, Her Perfect Twin, is an indication of how 2022 is gonna go debuts wise, I can say without fear of being wrong that it’s gonna be awesome.

Megan and Leah are twins, stranged twins after Leah published a book airing all their family’s dirty laundry. When Megan finds a photo of her sister in her husband’s phone she goes to confront her but…oops, she ends up killing her! (just a sisterly little fight!). Can she get away with murder posing as her dead twin? It looks like she will until lockdown hits (yeah, COVID f*cking everyone’s plans once again!).

I was absolutely mesmerized with this story. Could it be cause I’m a twin myself? A not murderous twin, by the way. Yeah, Megan might have killed her sister but I found her character really sympathetic. I just wanted things to go her way. When you think you know what direction the story is going lockdown comes and all her carefully laid plans go to sh*t and that’s when the real fun began (well, not for her! Poor Megan!).

Her Perfect Twin had one of the most despicable characters I’ve read lately that awoke my killing instincts so bad!

The tension kept ratcheting up with several OMG!, WHAAATT??!!, HOLY SH*T! moments that led to a really satisfying scene during which I actually clapped my hands.

The last thirds made my anxiety go through the roof in a final battle of wits that wasn’t solved until the last page.

Her Perfect Twin is a fantastic psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story. After this amazing debut, I am truly excited to find out what the author has in store for us next. It may be only January, but Her Perfect Twin is already a strong contender to enter my 2022 top ten list.

Thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mind blown!! I cannot believe Her Perfect Twin is Bonner's debut novel!

We all have a fascination with the connection between twins, but what about twins who are estranged? How deep can passion run when one of the twins wants everything the other one has? This is a case of sibling rivalry on steroids! It was fascinating to watch Bonner develop the personalities of each twin, and then show the two overlap to become Megan as Leah. Her characterization of Chris (the husband) as the charming on the outside, yet smug, sleazy, gaslighting and condescending in real life makes him a character you can really get your hate on for. And there are some asides, where each character speaks to the reader, a sort of wink and nod, that lets us know the character knows we're in on it the plot. Are there moments where you'll need to suspend disbelief? Absolutely! Do they contribute to the storyline? Absolutely!

I enjoyed each POV as new characters began their narrative: Megan, Megan's husband, and the lawyer. Bonner's attention to detail as she weaves this intricate tale is impeccable! Every time it looks like there's evidence that will incriminate Megan, there is an explanation that totally exonerates her.

And then there's the coverage of the lockdown. I think we are all far enough into the current health crisis to cringe when we think about seeing it in fiction from this time period, but the author uses the conditions of March 2020 to frame the story as a total nightmare setting - what would you do if you planned the perfect murder....and then were forced into lockdown?

No one is totally blameless in this novel, but if you need someone to root for, then Megan is your person! I predict this totally original, fast-paced, psychological thriller will be THE book of 2022!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton/Hodder Studio for an advance reader's copy for review. An enthusiastic 5 stars!!!

I can’t believe this is a debut novel as it is absolutely brilliant. I think this is going to be one of my favourite reads of 2022 already as it will be hard to top it.

Written in five parts from different character’s points of view, with each part containing several chapters.

If you think this is just another run of the mill twin trope, think again. The main characters were totally believable and pretty much all of them were twisted in their own way and for different reasons,

Megan finds a photo on her husband Chris’ phone which is clearly not her - it’s her identical twin sister dressed in sexy lingerie! Leah has always wanted what Megan has and they haven’t spoken for years after a massive falling out. Chris has never met Leah though so what’s going on?

What follows is an intricate web of deceit, which leaves the reader wondering who to believe! Just as you think you have it all worked out, another twist!

It is set just before COVID hit and during lockdown but this is only mentioned briefly and is relevant to the plot.

Such a cleverly written, fast paced story which I read in one sitting as I couldn’t stop page turning! Before I knew it, I was pretty close to the end so I had to carry on reading.

Many thanks to netgalley, the publishers and the author for an arc. I can’t wait for the author’s next book if this is anything to go by.

I haven’t read a truly twisting psychological thriller for a long time. Jeez, does this one do it for me, at parts I audibly gasped.
An unrelenting pace, written from various POVs, with little snippets dropped in to the plot that you just know are going to be important later. Will you spot them?
I’m not even going to précis the plot - read the blurb & then read the book. You won’t regret it. This kept me reading well beyond lights out.
A cracker of a read & I can’t wait for the next one. Highly recommended.

Holy moly! That was some seriously insane stuff that messed with my brain!

Clever, mind-bending and eye-popping – best describe “Her Perfect Twin”.

Synopsis -

Megan & Leah are twins who never really got along. So when Megan gets suspicious about her husband, having found Leah’s pictures on his phone, she is hurt, angry & desperate. With lockdown hitting London, things take a dark turn, as Megan decides to take control.

Review -

The book starts with Megan’s narrative and we get glimpses of the twins’ past. Bonner describes their complementing personalities that leads to their strained relationship, eventually opening up a big chasm and estrangement as they become adults.

The plot is so astutely built-up using the isolation and cascading effects of Covid lockdown, to the best possible advantage. The author hits you with so many surprises bang in the face, as she cunningly changes the narrative when you least expect it.

Oh from then on, it’s just deception galore. Confusion and perplexity plagues our brains, leaving us craving for answers, curiosity spiking in our veins. Failing to interpret and discern the things thrown at us, we are simply at the storyline’s mercy to watch the drama unfold.

Though some of the speculations turned out partly correct, thanks to some “hints” the author drops with careful consideration, it’s amazing how the book still manages to blow you mind off, the jaw hitting the floor at the end of it all.

The only niggle for me was the ending which felt a bit cramped, packing some unnecessary details which could’ve been avoided.

Overall, this is a stunning psychological thriller debut, so addictive and all-consuming, that in my opinion should not be missed by thriller lovers!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton, for the e-ARC in exchange of an honest review!

WOW, WOW, WOW! What a book! This is a perfect thriller. It is also set in COVID-lockdown times which gives a unique twist. This is sheer perfection. It is the first book by Sarah Bonner that I have read and it certainly won't be the last.

Her Perfect Twin by Sarah Bonner is such a clever psychological thriller, it will certainly keep you guessing.

Identical twins Megan and Leah had a complicated relationship that had them estranged for years, following a pretty dysfunctional childhood.

Leah has always got the better of Megan, and when Megan finds a photo of Leah on her husband’s phone she decides to confront her twin, a confrontation that leads to murder. What happens next will keep you firmly on the edge of your seat. Sorry, no spoilers!

I loved the use of twins in this story, I think there is often a belief that twins are generally close to one another, but that is not always the case and clearly Megan and Leah had been particularly competitive with one another. This was a very twisty story, and every time I thought I could see where it was going, I found it went in a direction I had not even considered.

I’m not generally a fan of stories that include the Covid-19 pandemic, but I actually thought the use of the lockdown was an inspired decision by the author and definitely helped to ramp up the tension.

This was an exceptional rollercoaster of a thriller, and an outstanding debut by Sarah Bonner.

Wow this was an unexpected amazing read. I went into this blind as I couldn't quite remember the plot from when I first requested this and I was hooked from the start. Leah and Megan are identical twins but couldn't lead more separate lives due to a betrayal in their relationship which ultimately turns to murder. I loved being able to get to see how both the twins lived and thought it was such an interesting concept that worked so incredibly well. I didn't want to put this as I wanted to see where it was going. And oh the twist - the twist was so impeccably done I was gobsmacked. Every single plot point was so well planned and none of it felt like it had been thrown in for the shock factor. This really is a 5-star read which I'd 100% recommend picking up as you won't be disappointed. What an incredible debut!. Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for providing me with an advance copy - all thoughts are my own.

Goodness - what an amazing début! Her Perfect Twin possesses a sterling premise - to get away with murder, you must live a double life, but then March 2020 happens and you're plunged into lockdown, so can you continue to be both your twin and yourself? This is the perfect thriller, and the star of the show is the brilliant Megan who kills her twin, Leah and then must navigate life as her, a successful writer and Instagram influencer. Sarah Bonner has tremendous skill; her characterisation is mightily impressive, the plot is clever and the whole story is extremely absorbing. The tension is palpable and you'll gallop through Her Perfect Twin. The book certainly deserves a five-star rating and I can’t wait for the books that will hopefully follow. 🥰

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Hodder & Stoughton via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

‘Her perfect twin’ is one of the darkest thrillers I have read in a long time and I loved it; I never knew what was coming or who had what hidden agendas. Completely gripping and filled with dramatic twists this one really got me out of my reading slump.
The story follows Megan and Leah; a pair of estranged twins whose competitiveness has always gone far beyond the typical sibling rivalry usually with Leah taking away whatever Megan has to herself. Then one day Leah goes too far and Megan makes a snap decision ending in murder so Megan decides to take everything that Leah has worked for by becoming her. What starts as a guise to get away with murder soon becomes an escape for Megan and one she doesn’t want to leave but then a pandemic happens and she can no longer enjoy her double life.
Megan has been careful to become Leah but she hasn’t fully covered her tracks and in the confines of a lockdown she is a sitting duck for outside manipulation. I loved this book because the switched perspectives uncover so much betrayal and multiple motives at play which provides a great pace all the way through and keeps you guessing till the very last page. I don’t want to say too much because it might give away the shocks but honestly I couldn’t put it down and I’m excited for others to read this one so I can talk about the sheer brilliance of this story!

My thanks to Hodder & Stoughton for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Her Perfect Twin’ by Sarah Bonner in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I read lots of crime fiction and psychological thrillers and felt that this was exceptional and an impressive debut.

‘Her Perfect Twin’ kept me pinned to my seat and was so deliciously twisty that I was raising my glass to toast its author’s ingenuity.

For maximum enjoyment I would recommend reading this novel ‘cold’ without too much prior information of its plot.

It features estranged identical twins: Leah, who has become extremely rich by publishing a misery memoir, and Megan, who is married to the handsome and charming but oh so controlling, Chris.

As the story moves into the spring of 2020 lockdown introduces new complications into the lives of its characters. I felt that Bonner made good use of this topical issue without it dominating the narrative.

After being completely wowed by ‘Her Perfect Twin’, I definitely will be looking forward to Sarah Bonner’s future projects.

Highly recommended.

The Perfect Twin is a highly original and gripping debut thriller that I raced through over the course of 24 hours. Leah and Megan are estranged twins and Sarah Bonner constructs a perfect thriller around their relationship. This is a breathtaking read and the action starts almost from the beginning. It's well paced and twisty and I would highly recommend it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Well, I think I can safely say that I absolutely loved this book. Yes it might be a little implausible but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless and it's a great, deliciously dark and twisty debut.

This is one of those books that has you wondering what the heck is going to happen next and then you keep reading it into the night to find out only for another twist to come along or bombshell dropped - I found it hard to put down.

I'm not even going to try and sum up the plot but will say it includes Covid, domestic violence, controlling and coercive behaviour, gaslighting, sex and violence so if this isn't your thing, you might not want to pick this one up.

With great characters, excellent pacing with plenty of tension and twists, this is a book I have no problem recommending and my thanks must go to Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own hone\st voluntary review.

Megan and Leah are identical twins, they spent their childhood pretending to be each other to trick their mum, now after finding a photo on her husband's phone which clearly isn't her, Megan decides to confront Leah for answers, Leah has always taken what Megan has and this, it seems, includes her husband Chris. An argument follows, which quickly escalates and ends in murder, can Megan pretend to be Leah again, to cover up killing her twin? She thinks she has it covered but then lockdown is declared and Megan begins to wonder how she can now lead this double life and keep the murder secret.

Her Perfect Twin is told from multiple perspectives, covering some delicate subjects including coercive control, abuse and gaslighting. It's a deliciously dark rollercoaster of a thriller with so many twists you'll feel dizzy and you certainly won't need to scream to go faster on this ride because you'll race through it. It's hard to believe that this is the authors debut, the plot is pure genius, the characters, although unreliable, are totally authentic, I didn't particularly like any of them, although did feel sorry for Megan, the chapters run seamlessly from one to the next and the twists when they come are brilliant, especially that final one. I was so invested in this story from beginning to end that at times I forgot to breathe, I can't wait to read more by this incredible author who is definitely one to watch.

I'd like to thank Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
