Description

When the war destroys everything, can you still keep hope alive?

1915, London. World War I has been raging for over a year, but despite it all Rose Spencer is feeling hopeful about the future. She's in love and planning her wedding to lovely, bicycle-shop owner Charlie.

She loves working as a seamstress at the glamourous London's Lyceum Theatre but secretly can't help fantasising about seeing her own designs come to life. And even when she won't believe in her talent, thankfully best friends Joyce and Annie are always around to push her to have faith in her dreams.

But when a German bomb is dropped on The Strand and the city falls to chaos, her life is turned upside down – is hope for a better future lost for good? And if one dream ends, can she find the strength to fight for a different one?

From the author of the Foyles Bookshop series, Secret Hopes for the West End Girls is a charming and uplifting WW1 saga, perfect for fans of Daisy Styles and Rosie Hendry.

Secret Hopes for the West End Girls by Elaine Roberts is a great WWI-era historical fiction saga that is the third book in the West End Girls series. I just love this series!

Rose, Joyce, and Annie are great characters and their strong friendships are key to the success of this series. Joyce and Annie were focal points on the previous books, so now Annie gets her turn.

I really enjoyed being able to read more about her own story: hopes, dreams, fears, and how she was affected by the war in London.

Such a great series.

5/5 stars

The West End Girls Rose, Annie and Joyce Book Three London 1915, this book tells us Rose Spencer's story, A seamstress working in the Lyceum Theatre with hopes for more.
Charlie Young her sweetheart runs his bicycle shop and loves her with all his heart and wants her to better herself.
With war starting and a zeppelin dropping onto the Strand Charlie saves her, and the grief is so strong she finds it so hard living without him but his words of spreading her wings and finding herself she makes a new start working for Alexander Bowman at the department store, Dickens and Jones and her two friends are never far away always by her side.
This book is so touching and emotional in lots of chapters, it pulls you into the story and I so enjoyed reading every bit of Rose and the struggles at the start of the war years.
It's so moving, capturing of friendships and love, heart-wrenching, that leaves you a contented and happy reader. I have loved this series as all the girls have a story to tell, this book is fine to read as a stand alone but do recommend to read the full three books. Absolutely lovely.

A gentle read following Rose and her best friends as they establish their lives in London as war is around them. There is a strong friendship bond between Rose, Joyce and Annie and we explore with them how to best help each other as their life gets turned upside down. The theft of Rose’s dress patterns and her drawings for potential clothes to be made rumbles in the background and adds interest and a focus to the plot. The unpicking of this theft is rather soft and disappointing however the overall book is a good feel good story.

I have loved every book in the West End Girls series and this, Secret Hopes for the West End Girls, was no exception. Elaine Roberts writes so well, that reading one of her books is like catching up with old friends and you finish the book sad that you might not get to hear from them for a while.
Definitely recommend this!

Loved, loved, loved it.
We revisit Annie and Rose who are living with Joyce in her Uncle Arthur’s house. Joyce has her cafe to keep her busy while Annie and Rose work at the theatre where Miss Hetherington makes life unbearable for Rose for reasons that Rose may actually know about without realising it.
During this time Rose is persuaded by Charlie to make the most of her talents so she branches out, possibly in the wrong direction and with a different talent. Annie and Joyce can’t decide when will be the right time to marry their sweethearts Peter & Simon, will the war decide for them? There is always the villain Alexander Bowman, who might just possibly get his just deserts.
I just cried all the way through the last chapter.

London 1915, WW1 has been raging for just over a year. Rose is working at the Lyceum Theatre as a seamstress but dreams of having her own clothes collection. In her spare time, she draws her own designs in notebooks but one of them go missing. When her boss Miss Heatherington arrives wearing new clothes, she recognises that the design is similar that she has designed but she can’t go an accuse her boss of taking them without no proof.
When she talks about it to her sweetheart Charlie Young, he advises her to aim higher and to better herself. So, when he dies saving other people when a bomb drops off outside the theatre, she just does that. She goes and works for Mr Andrew Bowman when he promises her that she will become an assistant designer to his collection. But the opportunity is not what it seems.
Thank you, Head of Zeus, for a copy of Secret hopes for the West End Girls by Elaine Roberts, is the third book in the series and another fabulous book from the author. This book is about love and friendships and lost loves. This is such and emotional book but will give you that warm feeling inside. 5 stars from me.

This is book three in the West End Girls series about friends Joyce, Annie and Rose during World War One. This book tells Rose’s story. The young seamstress is struggling with things going wrong in her life. Proud of her dress designs she can’t understand how they are being sold on the market and also the department store. Rose begins to wonder if life in London is really for her when everything seems to be going so wrong. It’s a great book going on the journey with Rose. Will she get to the bottom of all this and get her happy ever after. I enjoyed this series and recommend it.

Nice to find out what happened next as this series comes to an end. Rose's story is a sad one, and this book deals very much with grief, but also with trying to make others proud and to grab at life and make the most of it while you can. The war takes a back seat but we are certainly aware that it is still going on in the background. An easy read where baddies get their comeuppance and love, friendship and forgiveness prevail.
