Ben Rooker and Teddy Dabrowski are middle-aged friends who meet regularly at “The Bard,” a Pasadena, California coffee shop slash bookstore until one fateful day the café is rocked by an explosion. A woman, previously unknown to Teddy, but who nonetheless had moments before muttered an obscenity at him is killed as well as several others, while Ben and Teddy suffer non-life threatening injuries.
In their subsequent attempt to find the bomber they encounter a bizarre cast of characters that includes a sadistic drug cartel warlord who loves animals, an 8 year old cancer patient with a penchant for CS Lewis, a faux Cajun FBI Agent and a Plant Manager of a historic hospital who also dabbles in “decorative corpses.”
All culminating in a race to find a young woman who may be the key to the mystery but just might have to kill them for their trouble.
A Note From the Publisher
"Silver or Lead" is his first novel. James has written several plays which have been presented at various Los Angeles area theaters. Love, Madness and Somewhere in Between, a solo show that James wrote and performed in at the Hudson Theatre, won the Ovation Award at the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival.
He is currently working on his second novel, a thriller set in Japan. He dedicates Rose City to his late mother, Lucille.
He lives in Pasadena, CA also known as the “Rose City”.
