Joe Turner is like the red headed step child of attorneys he represents jaywalking cases minor drug possession and the like but when a woman from his past asked him to represent Alton Walker in a vicious stabbing attack he takes the case. At first joe’s first impression of Alton is that he looked like a menacing criminal but the more he gets to know Mr. Walker the more he believes in his innocence. The case also dresses up severe flashbacks of his own father‘s murder that leave him gagging sweating in the need of a stiff drink if when representing the devil you go to hell to get the witnesses then Joe is representing PT Barnum because it seems the weird and unusual is going to be what’s apropos for the case. The prosecutor is an overconfident buffoon the victim is a racist abusive jerk and Jill has the fight his own demons as well as get this innocent man out of prison. Especially when the trial is bringing up his own trauma. I really enjoyed this book I enjoyed the momentum the characters and thought the racist man’s nephew and Alton‘s opinion of him was a nice touch in such a great way to look at people different from us. They had so many twists and turns in this book the closer it got to the end the faster and more furious they came but it all seemed authentic and made for a great mystery. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes crime dramas thrillers and or suspense this is a great choice. A really good read. I loved the cover. 4*.

A light, entertaining mystery. I loved Joe and his investigator and was kept engaged by their characters.
