Description

Oksana is a pawn in a chess game she doesn’t fully comprehend, one she can’t escape.

The young Ukrainian spy recruited by Russia’s SVR purposely fails in her assignment to obtain the coordinates of a lost nuclear bomb from Mykola, a Ukrainian American immigrant who had traveled to Crimea to locate the bomb. Instead, Oksana falls in love with her target and must defect to the U.S. or risk imprisonment or death as a traitor to Russia. While Mykola’s Ukrainian friend, Vladyslav, fights with the Ukrainian resistance against the pro-Russian separatists, Russian agents search for their elusive spy in the U.S.

In Bomb Cyclone by J.A. Adams, we experience Ukraine’s plight, from the dissolution of the USSR, through the Orange and Euromaidan Revolutions, to the election of the young President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, until the current Russian war against Ukraine. Meanwhile, Oksana and Mykola try to evade the long reach of Russia’s arms on the other side of the Atlantic.

A Note From the Publisher

Author J.A. Adams, PhD, is currently retired in Northern Colorado after teaching English for sixteen years at Louisiana State University. She is the author of Pillars of Salt. Inspiration for her latest novel, Bomb Cyclone, came from Russia’s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, and addresses the effect of the resulting unrest on a Ukrainian American émigré and the beautiful spy sent by the SVR to acquire the bomb coordinates in his possession.

Advance Praise

"International conflict and romance are melded effectively in this romantic thriller for new adults. Adams presents a historically influenced tale spun off the Russian conquest of Crimea in 2014 through the election of young President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2019. This well-researched drama will undoubtedly hold the interest of a youthful audience and inspire readers to learn more about the history of the ongoing war between the two nations."

I truly enjoyed this book. The historical and current events it was based on were very accurately portrayed. Giving you a sense that this story could have really happened. The attention to detail in laying out the geography where things occurred kept with the feeling of this being real. Even the choices made by the main character gave the feeling of real people not your classic spy novel where the protagonist knows the right moves every time.

This was a brilliant story. I had to read this book in one sitting as it was so thrilling and exciting. The story line was really good but I am sure you have read the synopsis. I loved the fact there was plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. It was so close to getting top marks. It might of been because the love element was a little far fetched for me. But I did love ever other element of the book. The characters were very interesting and mostly realistic. They developed well throughout the story. This was definitely a roller coaster ride book that you won't want to put down. I really wasn't expecting the ending it was very good and shocking. But I won't be telling you anything more. This had a great medium pace that speeds up at the great twists and end. I really recommend this book if you love thrilling books with Russian and Ukrainian characters.

So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating such a brilliant fascinating thriller than I just couldn't put down. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this fantastic author.
