The couple are overjoyed when she gives birth to twins, but the babies are weak and the Greenwoods are worried they won't survive. Poverty-stricken, Amber has no choice but to return to work for the Greenwoods. There, the baby girl is flourishing but her twin is not. Another great book by Rosie Goodwin, I loved this book, I couldn’t put it down. It tells the story of Amber a laundry maid to Barnaby Greenwood, they have an affair and amber gets pregnant but Barnaby is married to Louisa, all Barnaby wants is a child, but he can’t have Ambers child. Amber struggles with having a baby out of wedlock and Barnaby offers to find the child a loving home. But things aren’t quite as they seem, struggles and heartache follows them. A fantastic book and we’ll deserved 5 stars.

I have read all of Rosie Goodwin’s books, and I have to say that this is easily among the best.

It’s such a touching story, focusing this time more on the sweetness of people than the violence that we find in life – though of course all her heroines meet with violence at sometime, and this one is no exception.

But I really felt that this one was more emotive than some of her others. It was an excellent read and I could not put it down.

Amber while working as a laundry maid becomes pregnant by Barnaby Greenwood. He sent her away. She ends up at the home of her uncle where she gives birth to a baby girl. Barnaby supposedly gives the baby up to a foster home. When Amber is once again working at the Greenwood home she finds out that he has deceived her all along.

Loved this story of Amber the laundry maid who gets seduced by her master and falls in love with him to find herself pregnant and the lordship tells get to get rid as his wife is also pregnant, determined not to accept any help and to have her baby and give it away so she can return to a normal life, she faces some struggles along the way.
Her master promises to find the baby a loving home little did she know at the time that the home was his own and passed her baby off as his wife's twin, Amber trys to carry on with life getting whatever job she could find to help her mam as they recently lost father and two brothers on a fishing vessel owned again by her previous master.
Fate finds Amber returning to greenacres to the job of a nanny to his wife's twins and suddenly realises that the girl is her daughter, while the wife shows no interest at all in her children their father dotes on them as does Amber.
Loved the storyline and the characters were all lovely, couldn't put this book down, highly recommend

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I like good old fashioned books like this when the nights are drawing in. I really enjoyed this book and the storyline and the characters. A good read.

The depth of feeling in the characters is just beautiful. I started off liking some, others not soo much. Just as we do with people in real life, then as we get to know them better we review our decisions. It was like that as I read through the book. Some characters really surprised with changes they made.
Amber is a really strong young woman which is just as well with some of the difficulties she has to endure.
I really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down. Recommend it. Worth all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely love Rosie Goodwin and can honestly say I have read so many of her books. This one was so lovely with great story line and wonderful characters, Amber who is very brave when all fails, Nancy her friend who has never let her down and her Uncle Jeremiah who came to the rescue when she needed it. Would love to say more but don’t want to spoil anything. Enjoy the read, I did as read it in one day.
My thanks as always to NetGalley and Bonnier Books, Zaffre and to Rosie Goodwin who never fails to produce wonderful stories.

Another absolutely wonderful read from Rosie. Although it was a story many times told about a maid being made pregnant by her aristocratic employer the twist at the end was truly wonderful. It was a real page turner especially when Amber goes to work at a farm which sounded awful. I loved how the story unfolded and the ending was perfect.

I loved Rosies's days of the weeks b9oks so was excited to read this and it didn't disappoint
In a change for the author the book mostly takes place in Whitby.and it follows Amber as she faces heartache and tries to make a life for herself. She is a likeable heroine and I really liked that this isnt the typical master / servant story

Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for the advance read of this book.
Another fantastic read from Rosie Goodwin, I really enjoy the Precious Stones series set in the 19th century. I felt every emotion while reading Amber's story, from sadness to happiness. It has a perfect ending.
I really recommend this series to everyone.
A definite 5 stars from me

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and Rosie Goodwin for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.

I have read Rosie Goodwin before and knew her style and have to say I did expect this to be a typical maid/aristocratic master type story. And to some extent it is but there are twists and turns and the heroine Amber can be stubborn but I imagine in those times she couldn't see 'the wood for the trees'

It even transpires that the 'master' isn't quite as rich and aristocratic as it seems having married into money.

There is sadness and at times it is predictable - but it is a lovely story with an ending very different from novels that normally have this type of storyline.

It deserves 5 stars - I thoroughly enjoyed it

A really lovely read again by Rosie Goodwin. I really enjoy these novels which are set in the nineteenth century the people had very little but worked hard and accepted their lot. I loved Amber's story a young girl working in the kitchens at Greenacres the home of Barnaby Greenwood and his wife but when she gets herself into a bad situation her life is changed forever .Loved the location where it's set Whitby is such a great place and the story is full of great characters and shows how much circumstances and privilege can change people. A story of friendships, family and love and hopefully the class differences can bring people together as well as tearing them apart. Highly recommend novel
