This is not a cozy mystery. This is a full out creepy novel of mystery and intrigue…red herrings abound…it is a page turner…it is a cannot put down book written by a talented author. Do not start this at night…sleep will escape you because you have to determine what will happen next. I was surprised because of the title…it sounded like it was going to be a book about a resort vacation…whew…was I wrong. After all of that, I liked the book…the gory parts were a little… gory…the secrets were really secrets…however, it is book that stays in the reader’s memory. The main character loved her husband…he was not a devoted loving husband…enough said…read the book and escape for an afternoon…this book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.

Goodwin's books always makes for a great escape.

Mila and Ethan are away for her sister's gorgeous wedding at a ski resort.
Tucked away deep in the mountains with nothing around Mila is finally feeling like everything is starting to go as planned.
But obviously she was wrong... When their rental car breaks down and they are starting to lose daylight they starting walking to where they saw signs on their way in for some cabins.
Finally reaching the boarded up empty cabins they have a feeling they shouldn't be there.
But the snow is relentless and they have no other choice but to pop a window and stay the night.
Morning comes and Mila wakes up and Ethan is no where to be seen.
What happens next Mila must find her husband and figure out what is lurking in this creepy abandoned village.

The Resort by Sarah Goodwin was a total shocker. A true page turning story.
This gripping, thrill-packed book was difficult to put down.
Stayed up late last night reading because I just couldn't stop.
Sarah Goodwin has yet again proven why she is a favorite of mine.
This was well written and organized, and the storytelling was great.
Characters were intriguing and believable, and the vivid descriptions transported me to the empty, snowy mountains.

A twisty and addictive, page-turning locked room mystery that will take your breath away!

Sarah Goodwin is back on track again after veering off her usual stile with the 13th girl. Like stranded, we’re immediately put transported to a claustrophobic space where the plot unfolds.

Mila and her husband are going to her sisters wedding. When they’re nearly there, their rented car breaks down and they find themselves in an abounded little place. It’s cold and they have no cell reception. When Mila wakes up, her husband has vanished into thin air. From now on, she has to do everything to stay alive.

The book alternates between mila’s past and the now. Her upbringing with her sister is described, and we realize there is a rift between them that Mila is desperate to mend. The reader is taken to her past right after something new has happened that leaves us wanting more. What is really going on? Why are there no footprints and who is watching her? The paranoia seeps into the pages until you feel tainted by it. Mila constantly has to think on her feet, despite being in pain from her leg being injured and having no one to help her. You can feel her strength dwindling and want to shout: Don’t give up yet! There might be a way out.

Goodwin manages to not overwhelm the reader by too much happening at once. It makes it easier to wonder what might be going on. When Mila gets her lightbulb moment I was so surprised and felt that satisfying rush when it all made sense.

To sum up my thoughts; it was engaging, clever and atmospheric.

A destination wedding at a luxurious Bavarian resort sounds enticing, doesn’t it? All Mila and Ethan have to do is pay for their airline tickets and rental car. The rest will be covered by the bride, her sister Jess - a free, relaxing vacation. Or not.

Definitely not. As the afternoon of their first day turns into night, Ethan and Mila get lost. Then their car stalls and will not start again. Slowed by a blizzard, in clothing not suitable for the freezing weather, they hike to a small town that appears to be deserted. They find a house for shelter, start a fire, eat some of their leftover airplane snacks and settle in for the night. The next morning Ethan is gone. Vanished. There are no footprints, nothing. What happens next is Mila’s desperate attempt to survive. She’ll learn the unexpected about this abandoned village, her husband and her sister Jess.

The Resort moves seamlessly between the present and the past, a technique that allows you to fully understand the relationship between Mila and Jess. There are many twists and turns and a surprising conclusion that you wont see coming. 5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books UK and Sarah Goodwin for this ARC.

Wow! This just got under my skin from the start and I couldn't out it down. It's got a good pace and the creepy atmosphere and tension are built so gradually and so well that it literally has you looking over your shoulder the whole time! It's not the most original premise but it is really well writtena nd doesn't have any stupid characters who run towards danger just so there can be another chapter etc. The twists and really well done and there's no plot holes or rush to tie up all the ends n just get the book over with. I flew through it in a day and loved every second

This was absolutely nightmare inducing in a way I couldn't even imagine. And then you think it's over and it is getting kind of boring, a little domestic, and you're like "okay why isn't it over?" and then you get more twists.
This is another I will recommend to everyone I like and everyone I don't like.
I thought this would be a little palette cleanser after the last two horror novels, but no. This was almost as scary, actually it might be scarier.
Thank you for the ARC. This author is amazing at terrifying us normal folks.

Look, this book gets 5 stars from me for this reason- I was hoping for a scary vibe, as it's October, and it delivered. I had to stop reading before bed because I was all jumpy. All of a sudden my house felt too quiet.

For much of this book, it feels like a survival horror. And that's tough to read. Then things are chill for a bit, even a little slow, but that's how they get you. False sense of security! I really enjoyed it and will totally look for this author's books again.

Mila and Ethan travel to Bavaria to attend the wedding of her sister Jess. The story soon becomes creepy and mysterious and i found myself hurrying through parts of the book to see what would happen.
A clever and atmospheric read.
My thanks to the publisher and netgalley for my copy.
An easy five stars.

I love it when the weather and setting are almost like another character in a book. The thought of being stranded is quite terrifying for me but also I like to read books like this. Same with sharks. This book was well written and made me draw in my breath a few times. Don’t want to spoil it or give it away but I loved it!

The second book I’ve read by this author and it’s another gripping story.

Mila and Ethan are on their way to Mila’s sister’s wedding in Germany when they get lost. Their rental car breaks down and the sat nav stops working so they take shelter in an abandoned cabin in a small village in a forest. But when Mila wakes up, Ethan is gone. Disappeared without a trace, not even a footprint left in the snow. Mila searches for him but with a sprained ankle and the thick snow impeding her, she finds no trace of her missing husband. Where is he, what has happened to him and why does Mila feel like she is being watched?

A story that kept me guessing right until the conclusion.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review.

Sarah Goodwin always manages to pull the reader into the world of intrigue, mind games, and people struggling to survive, and on top of all that, her novels always take place in some abandoned corner of the world.

Be prepared for a whirlwind of action, emotion, and high tension.

Mila and Ethan travel to the Bavarian ski resort for her sister's wedding. They get lost and their car breaks down. They find themselves in an old abandoned village in the middle of a snowy and scary forest. And by the next morning, Ethan was gone too. Mila is totally alone and frantically searches for him, but first, she has to survive in the harsh circumstances.

Absolutely loved it, and like Goodwin's novel Stranded, The Resort is claustrophobic, gripping, and nail-biting till the end.
Superb psychological thriller!

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book where I had no idea what was going on, in a good way. While traveling to her sister’s destination wedding, Mila and her hubby Ethan get stranded in the Alps and have to walk to try and get help. What they find is an abandoned settlement covered in snow. Out of options, they have to stay in one of the cabins for the night and, in the morning, Ethan has disappeared. My first thought was, “Mila, go trace the footprints in the snow outside” but, well, there are none. Mila also has the feeling that she’s being watched, and she finds evidence of weird animal activity. So I really had no idea if this was a supernatural ghost story, a horror novel, a slasher or what was going on. As Mila, I kept thinking there had to be a rational explanation but I couldn’t see how. It was hard to put the book down, as Mila’s situation keeps getting worse. The suspense, the unease, the creepiness factor, everything builds up to an insanely good climax. Mila is a very flawed character. She’s always late and her life is a mess, but when she finds herself trying to survive with almost no food and in dire circumstances, her resourcefulness makes it easier to root for her. This is a suspenseful, propulsive and addictive novel.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Avon Books UK!

What did I just read, this book was just so good.. Mila & Ethan have travelled abroad to attend her sisters wedding and whilst driving the final distance to their destination their vehicle breaks down in the middle of nowhere, would you stay in an abandoned cabin…. Read it to see what happens, ooh it’s so good x

The Resort tells of Mila and her husband Ethan who travel abroad to a ski resort to attend her sister’s wedding who is Jess in which the sisters both have a strained relationship. Whilst travelling the couple get lost, there car breaks down and in the middle of this they’re stuck whilst a snow storm is approaching with no cellphone service. They end up taking shelter in an abandoned cabin in middle of nowhere in a forest. After waking up mila finds out she is all alone and Ethan has somehow disappeared with no traces of him to be found, with a sprained ankle she tries to find him but to no avail she isn’t able too. While stuck in the middle of nowhere and injured on top of that, she gets the feeling something or someone is watching and following her every move.

The resort is well written with the right amount of twists and suspense, in the second half of the book the plot increases and makes you want to read on to see what will unfold. A true edge of your seat read that is perfect for reading at night when everything is quiet.

Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review. I always look forward to what Sarah Goodwin releases

What a Gripping and Fantastic read!
On the way to her sisters wedding Mila and Ethan's car breaks down in the middle of the forest (or does it) stranded and miles from nowhere they find a secluded abandoned village resort, taking shelter all is not as it seems when Mila wakes to the disappearance of her husband, has he been taken or simply gone to get help, I can honestly say it wasn't what I thought it was gonna be that's for sure with a brilliant twist this book will keep you guessing throughout.
Hats off to Sarah Goodwin on a great book and a thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read it!

Thanks netgalley and publishers for arc of this book
Wow what a fabulous and amazing page turning book this turned out to be, from the title did expect to read about some exotic ski resort.
You couldn’t be further from the truth, you follow the story of two sisters Jess the eldest and Amelia who is the golden child of the family. Jess is getting married in a stunning German lodge and has paid for Mila and her husband to stay there to as long as they pay their own travel costs. Simple you would think
But the car they hire doesn’t have sat nav so Mila husband brought their own uploaded their route Mila is exhausted sleeps in car, until the car stops in middle of nowhere, then starts her week of hell
They walk towards a sign they have seen and eventually find ramshackle cabins which they shelter in from snow storm but when Mila awakes she is completely alone. Where is Ethan? No footprints in snow outside more snowstorms keep her locked in with hardly any food and no fire as it has gone out and she is scared to go out.But she must and she does to try to find her husband no luck, no footprints, collects wood, repeat
After two days Mila convinces herself she is going to die out here then she decides to go back to their car to get clothes at least. But the car is gone

Sarah Goodwin’s writing gets better with each book! I have read her previous novels and enjoyed them but The Resort goes a step further. It really gave me the creeps and the shocks kept coming. I read this book in two sittings, I really didn’t want to put it down.
What begins as a trip to a sister’s wedding turns into a nightmare, and quite a unique story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I have read the previous two books from Sarah and loved both of them, so I was really excited to read this one too. I was not disappointed. It had me hooked from the very beginning. A creepy psychological thriller set in the snow.

Mila and Ethan are invited to the wedding of Mila's sister Jess, set in a luxury resort in the Alps.

A snow storm sets in, the sat nav stops working and the rental car breaks down. There is no phone signal so Mila and Ethan are forced to take shelter for the night in a deserted cabin in the woods.

When Mila wakes the next morning, Ethan has disappeared. When she goes outside there are no extra footprints and no sign of Ethan. She makes her way back to the car in the hope of finding him there.

With no sign of Ethan and no substantial food, Mila is left to try to survive alone. When she makes a gruesome discovery things get worse. Is she really alone in the woods or is someone watching her every move?

Chapters written mainly in current time with a few from Mila's past.

The story flows well and it kept me page turning as I really didn't know where it was going. What a great twisted and atmospheric read! Sarah has done it again.

Many thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and author for an ARC.

The Resort is so atmospheric and tense my stomach flip flopped like mad while I read it. Those of us who have lived in winter/cold understand what it is like to feel chased or followed in deep snow when in unfamiliar territory, even if by something benign. Sounds are louder, scents stronger, sights either acute or unreliable and uneasiness is amplified. Author Sarah Goodwin captures the creepy atmosphere perfectly and her words are written magnificently.

The Resort reading experience is like being pursued and stalked when you can't run fast and hunger and exhaustion are inescapable. Only a million times better as it isn't actually happening to you. But it is happening to Mila, the protagonist. She and her husband's rental car goes off the road down a steep embankment en route to her sister's wedding in beautiful Bavaria. Yet another in the long list of things that goes wrong when it comes to her history.

Mila and Ethan camp out in a weird deserted village well off the beaten path and divvy up food rations and try to make plans. But things go from bad to worse as Ethan goes missing. Legends abound and time is not on Mila's side as her lifelines peter out, one by one.

Thriller fans who enjoy books set in the wilderness with just the right amount of suspense and edge, look no further. You'll feel like checking behind your back and cautiously peering through your windows. I adored the spine tingles and goosebumps and losing myself utterly and completely. And what a cover!

My sincere thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this thrill-a-minute book!
