Description

Love is just a numbers game . . . isn't it?

Iris lives by numbers. The only thing missing from her perfectly calibrated life is a partner - and not for lack of trying. After decades of disappointment, Iris practically has a PhD in online dating. But something still eludes her: that unquantifiable spark.

Kim is too busy being the life of the party to look for love. Her terrible dates make great stories for her friends and co-workers, as long as she's not caught by her tyrannical boss, Iris.

Connie, Kim's recently widowed mum, is single for the first time since the 1970s. The dating game has changed a lot since her day . . .

Sick of being let down, Iris takes matters into her own hands - using her analytical skills to create the first real formula for love. With Kim and Connie on board, they launch Analyze, a dating app like no other.

As Analyze takes the world by storm, are the three women in over their heads? Is love really just a numbers game?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Did people in loving relationships realise how fortunate they were, Iris often wondered? One thing was for certain, though: after all these decades alone, someone like her would never not appreciate such a rare blessing." This is such an easy read about the struggles of online dating as well as the importance and strength of relationships between women. I highly recommend if you're looking for a funny, light read!

Iris, Kim, and Connie are all single and have had negative experiences with online dating. Iris is in her 40s, and is good with numbers, however, after decades of online dating, no formula she has found for swiping right has seen success. And after her last date that cost her over £900, she is determined to find someone for her. Kim is in her 20s, and is well known in work for her horrific yet hilarious dating stories. Arguably the best (well worst) one was after being picked up by a limo driver on a date only to find she was stuck in the back between a coffin and a McDonalds. Connie is single for the first time since the 70s after she was made a widow, and her daughter Kim persuades her to try online dating, for company if anything. After Iris overhears yet another of Kim's dating stories, she asks her to help develop an app that may lead to some suitable matches. However as the three begin they own dating journeys with the app, they begin to question whether it is a relationship or friendship that is the key to their loneliness.

This was such a lighthearted book, however, I adored the open and honest discussion it brought forward about online dating. Iris was not the most likeable character at the start, yet it was actually heartwarming to hear how difficult she is finding it being alone, despite the success of her work life. You can really emphasise with her struggles as in turn it does lead her (and I'm sure the majority of the people who have been in this situation) to point the finger at themselves and wonder why they are the problem. However, I do admire how her standards and type did not differ due to the downfalls. Kim and Connie were also very fun to read about as mother and daughter and they had two very different dating experiences at their stages of life, That was probably my favourite part of the book, how the women were at different stages of their life and were able to reflect on their own difficulties of dating, The relationships between the three women was also lovely to read about as Iris expanded out of her workplace shell in order to focus on herself and what she wants and how she's going to get it.

This book is a very sweet and easy read which I recommend if you're in the mood for something (for the majority) lighthearted. Thank you netgalley for the arc!

a great read about looking for love, loneliness and friendships. Iris comes across as a prickly batteaxe but as you get to know her you realise she is painfully lonely. Kim is the ultimate party girl with the gift of the gab but both can’t find love. they are both a chalk and cheese but together the build the ultimate dating app and a great friendship

As I work in high tech I fell hard for this novel as I met some people like Iris and loved the characters and the plot.
An entertaining and well plotted story that kept me hooked.

Claudia Carroll has created an exciting, witty, and captivating novel about three strong women and the incredible power of technology. In her unique take on the classic romcom, Carroll’s ‘The Love Algorithm’ combines light-hearted romance and drama with the innovation and intrigue of the start-up world.

Through the struggles and successes of her lead characters, Carroll provides a window into the intricate and ever-changing world of the modern dating game.

With great writing, humour, and heart, Carroll creates an exciting, thoughtful, and wonderfully unpredictable story about love and what it really means. A highly enjoyable and cleverly crafted story with a delightful and empowering message – highly recommended!

Review for 'The Love Algorithm' by Claudia Carroll.

Read and reviewed via Zaffre Books for Claudia Carroll, NetGalley and Zaffre Books.

Publication dates: Kindle 4th August 2022. Paperback:30th March 2023

This is the first book I have read by this author. It most certainly wont be my last!!!

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Zaffre. I have yet to read a book published by Zaffre that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 39 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Ireland 🇮🇪 UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. The fact that this book is based in Ireland is even better as I have been on holiday in Ireland many times so may even recognise some places Emma has set the book around.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Iris Simpson, Kim Bailey and Connie Bailey. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book has fantastic descriptions that set you straight in the scenes. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly. This book is very well written with vivid descriptions setting the picture perfectly in the readers mind. The title, description and cover works perfectly with the storyline.

Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolutely gorgeous, laugh a minute, page turner!! An absolute must read!!!

This has got to be one of the best feel good reads I have read this year!! I have never read any books by this amazing author but I have already hunted all her previous books down on Amazon and added them to my wish list and cannot wait to get stuck into another one by her!! If you are feeling down or just looking for a book to life you up then pick up your copy og 'The Love Algorithm' today and you wont regret it!!! It is one of those books that are very easy to read and perfect for any reading situations whether you are laying on a beach or curled up in front of a fire. Iris is fed up of going on dates that are complete let downs and decides to do something about it!! She is a senior manager at Sloan Curtis She is known as Dreadnought Iris by the rest of the employees at Sloan Curtis including Kim. Iris ropes Kim in to help her with creating their own dating app which will help match people up using more specific questions that you really need to think about plus using her analytical skills. Kim then ropes her mother Connie in to help them to test the app out for the older generations. This book is absolutely ram packed with laughs, friendships, romance, alcohol, dates, disasters, family and so so much more!!! It is one of those books that I genuinely could not put down and I was walking around with it glued to my hands. I ended up devouring it in a few hours!! Claudia's evocative writing skills brought the characters and atmosphere to life ensuring I felt, seen and heard everything going around. I loved the Irish dialogue used, especially with Connie, which helped to make it even more realistic. Most of the dating disaster stories throughout the book are absolutely hilarious although my heart did go out to Iris in the first one and I think what he did was absolutely disgusting and it was one of the ones that was so sadly realistic I was shocked to my core. The fact that it was inspired by an online story that Claudia had read makes it even sadder. Which reminds me to let you know to make sure you read right until the end of the book to read a letter from Claudia which tells you more about how this book came about!! The rest of the dating disasters throughout the books had me laughing out loud so this is your warning not to read this in a public place, especially not while drinking anything!! I made the mistake of having a cuppa while reading it and ended up with it all over me on several occasions as I just couldn't stop myself laughing so much!! I really cannot wait to get hooked into more of Claudia's books so I hope she is busy writing her next one!! This is definitely one of those books that will turn a frown upside down and make life seem a lot brighter. I absolutely loved the ending and I would absolutely LOVE to see this turned into a movie. I would definitely be the first in the queue to see it along with her next success!!

Clear your schedules and get the tissues ready for the tears of laughter, this is one book you will be hooked on until you finish!!! This may be the first book I have read by Claudia but I cannot wait to get hold of more books by this extremely talented author!!!

This is one of those books that is absolutely full of characters that will stay with you for a very long time!!!The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested in them all. The first character we meet is Iris on her absolute disaster of a date!! My heart completely went out to her for what that absolute **** did to her!! As I previously mentioned she is known as Dreadnought Iris by her colleagues and, to be fair and although I am completely against bullying, she does not help herself!! iris is extremely uptight and is all about work and numbers. She struggles socially and is one of the first to arrive at work and the last to leave, work and numbers are literally her life. She does make time to go on dates but every one has ended in disaster. I found it really sad how she lived her life and although she is extremely strict in the workplace and everything has to be done in a certain way you can tell that she would like to have friends but genuinely does not know how. I was really invested in her and I loved watching her character development throughout the book. It is amazing to see how much she changes once she starts socialising and people start speaking to her more. We then meet Kim during one of her dating disaster stories and I absolutely LOVED her from the moment we 'met'!! Kim is one of those women who can walk into a quiet room and have everyone laughing and talking in minutes. She is most definitely the work clown and takes her dating disasters in her stride!! She is full of life, spends from the end of the work day until just before it starts again out partying with her friends and coming into work a couple of hours later. She is always the centre of attention with a great personality. It was intriguing to see how her life changed throughout the book as Iris and her app Analyzed goes out in the world. It was not in the way io was expecting that's all I am saying!! Kim has a great relationship with her mother Connie who gets roped into Analyzed as a dating 'guinea pig'. I absolutely adored Connie who is definitely not the little old lady you may expect!! You can see where Kim gets her larger than life personality from and she is another character I loved 'meeting;' throughout the book. Connie's relationship with her best friend Betty had me in stitches. They are constantly insulting and trying to one up each other. However, after Connie's dating experiences with Ronnie who she meets on Analyzed Bettie and Connie find out many home truths about each other. Iris, Kim and Connie are the main characters but other characters that we meet throughout include Kim's friends Greg, Kim and Hannah. I adored Hannah who was a really sweet genuine woman. There is fantastic character development throughout the storyline and I loved watching each if the characters personalities grow along with their relationships changing and developing. It was lovely to see how many of them were so different from when we first meet them until we sadly have to say goodbye. An amazing group of characters that I would absolutely love to meet again in any of Claudia's future page turners!! Pick up your copy today and get to know them all yourselves!!!

Congratulations Claudia on an absolutely hilarious, fun and addictive romcom!!! I am looking forward to reading more of your previous and future books. I would absolutely love to see this book turned into a movie!!! Welcome to my favourite author list and here's to your next success 🥂
