Read the first two chapters of Ledge NOW!

Ledge is the heart-stopping beginning to The Glacian Trilogy from TikTok sensation Stacey McEwan @staceboookspace

After being randomly selected as a human sacrifice, instead of death, Dawsyn finds herself on a quest to save her people from their icy prison...

In a place known as the Ledge, a civilization is trapped by a vast chasm and sheer mountain face. There is no way for anyone to escape the frozen wasteland without befalling a deathly drop. They know nothing of the outside world except that it is where the Glacians reside – mystical and vicious winged creatures who bring meagre rations in exchange for a periodic human sacrifice.
Dawsyn, ax wielder and only remaining member of her family, has so far avoided the annual culling, but her luck has run out. She is chosen and ripped from her icy home, the only world she knows. No one knows what will happen to her on the other side, least of all Dawsyn. Murdered? Enslaved? Worse?
Fortunately, a half-Glacian called Ryon offers to help them both escape, but how can she trust one of the very creatures that plagued her life? Dawsyn is a survivor, and she is not afraid to cut anyone down to live.
With a slow-burning romance, high stakes and even higher rewards, this richly created new fantasy series by popular TikToker Stacey McEwan will keep you gripped to the very end.

I'd seen 'Ledge' floating around on the internet and was interested in reading it, but I've been bitten by BookTok and BookTube hype before. This sample allowed me to confirm that McEwan's writing definitely confirms the hype and that I'd enjoy this book. Can't wait to pick it up!

I had the privilege of reviewing Ledge before it's release, so seeing this sampler published in the lead-up to the sequel's release was exciting!
Ledge was one of my favourite reads of 2022, and I love the hype it's getting, especially from the author on her social media, which is brilliant.
This sample provides just enough to reel the reader in and encourage them to read the entire book. Obviously, it leaves you wanting more, but that is the intention behind it.
I honestly cannot wait to read Chasm and definitely re-read Ledge before its release!

Wow. This book immediately pulled me in. Hunger Games meets “Winter is coming”. (My GOT fans will understand”

I would always recommend checking your trigger warnings but I feel safe saying that any reader would enjoy picking this novel up! The sequel is set to release in September of this year and I’m beyond excited to see the story continue!

A world so vibrant I felt as if I was there. The author does a beautiful job bringing the reader directly onto the Ledge. My only disappointment I wish I had more.

Having an exclusive sampler copy allowed me to read the first two chapters of Ledge. It’s hard to judge off of twenty five pages but so far I’m impressed. I was getting Hunger Games era vibes and haven’t gotten to enjoy that genre in awhile. Dawsyn seems like a woman who’s just done with her not so ideal situation and is hoping for a better life. I’m intrigued to read the rest of this book and can’t wait for the release!

***This is a review of an ARC sample from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

So I was honestly taken aback by how much this story intrigued me. Whereas the synopsis drew me in, I expected little from just the first two chapters. But already we get a grand description of the world and its unfairness and I am even starting to get to know Dawsyn as a character. Even with the brief moment of sensuality that was in the second chapter, I already felt this sense of longing and loneliness that Dawsyn had. As with Dawsyn, I wonder how exactly their world works and why does something as foreboding as the Selection have to exist? How exactly did the Ledge come to be and how did the village that Dawsyn resides in come to be? I am excited to pick this up when it is fully out, for I am very glad to have potentially found a fantasy series that seems to borrow from classic dystopian ideas.

I went into this selection of Ledge, before the release of the paperback version, with a curiosity of what this story could possibly hold. And now I feel as if I'm going to go out and buy the hardback before the paperback even releases. Our main character has an air of sorrow and determination about her that makes me curious about her journey and her best friend is a likeable sort that seems willing to sacrifice himself in order to save his friend. Which we all know goes over so well. I'm going to give this book a deeper look and post a review on Goodreads once I read it in it's entirety, but what I've read so far has me wanting to read more of it. As soon as one more book comes off of my TBR cart, Ledge will be going onto it.

"Princess Academy" meets "The Lottery" meets...oh, I'm going to have to think about that one. A more adult-oriented fantasy/dystopian book than "Princess Academy", in any case!

These sample chapters introduce us to the world of the Ledge, where a tiny civilisation perches on a cliffside, constantly battling the elements—and at risk of sliding into a crevasse—and a general lack of food, lack of trees, lack of resources. They're supported by the winged Glacians, which make regular supply drops...but never enough, and the Glacians' support comes at a cost: twice yearly sacrifices, villagers swept off by the Glacians to an unknown fate.

This (and the rest of the series—the second book is due out later this year) will likely appeal wildly to those who grew up with YA dystopia and are ready for something similar but smuttier, or for those who like fast-paced action in their fantasy worlds. I always appreciate sample chapters for giving me a sense of what to expect from a book, and this is no exception—an introduction to Dawsyn, to her world...and the knowledge that things are about to change for her, and quickly. For the most part I've gone in a different direction since moving on from the dystopian YA I once read a lot of (blame "The Hunger Games", probably), but had the wind shifted perhaps I would have ended up on a Ledge more often.

Thanks to the author and publisher for providing this preview through NetGalley.

Can’t wait to read this story in its entirety; enjoyed the sample. A unique and interesting story line

This was just the first 2 chapters of this book BUT IT MAKES ME WANT TO BUY THE WHOLE BOOK!! What is the ledge? What is the chasm? Where do people go when chosen on selection day by the Glacians?

Dawsyn is a survivor. The last of her family. She will have to stand out the front of her small hut on Selection day.

How dare you only give me two chapters!!! I'm off to buy and read the whole book. Thank God the sequel comes out soon too!

Thanks to Netgalley, Stacey McEwan and Angry Robot for this short excerpt, which has made me hungry for so much more!
