Description

Unlocking the truth of his past could end the world’s future…

Possessed. Dangerous. Monster. Seth Cunningham is haunted by the words his mother yelled after she tried to drown him in the pond behind their house, when he was six.

It’s been almost twelve years since that night, but Seth is still struggling to live a normal life alongside his horrific nightmares and sense of loss. He finds some comfort when a romance sparks with Gabriel, a kindhearted college student that isn’t scared off so easily by Seth’s past, or his pain.

But something inside Seth is awakening. It speaks to him in a voice only he and the ravens that serve it can hear. A presence that carries with it a terrible hunger that becomes hard to resist.

To save himself and those he loves, Seth will have to search out the truth of who he was meant to be, and the dark past his mother fled.

As a survivor of PTSD I would be remiss to not mention that this book contains subject matter that would be expected of the fantasy and horror genre, but also material that may not be, such as depictions of mental illness, past abuse, and non-descriptive discussions of past sexual assault.

A list of warnings can be found in the back of the book and on my website (link available in about the author section).

Advance Praise

Its definitely not for the faint of heart, but I enjoyed it. It had good pacing and the action in it is well portrayed. I really love the idea of familiars and became quite attached to the characters and their struggles and triumphs.

Carnes’s writing style is quite accessible, making it easy to forget you’re safe on your sofa, and truly get swept up in the story. Seth’s thoughts and actions felt authentic, as did dialogue between characters. Chapters flow easily one into the other, making it really hard to put the book down.
