Description
'Soap-Stud & Blue-Movie Girl' are two audaciously satirical short novels; they are also fierce commentaries on the gender dynamics in an alternative 1990s Hollywood - a world where James Dean and Marilyn Monroe Kennedy are still living working legends.
'Soap-Stud' is the story of Jason Howl, a hunky California beach lifeguard spotted by a talent scout and groomed for minor television roles. The women he meets and romances, stars of yesteryear as well as today, are forever combating male privilege in Hollywood. Internet footage of a nude scene from the late-night soap Eldorado thrusts Jason into the blazing glare of runaway publicity. What happens to an actor whose fame is based more on notoriety than talent?
'Blue-Movie Girl' introduces us to Joylene Duchat, the estranged mixed-race daughter of a Louisiana televangelist. Tumultuous teenage years in Arizona lead to an encounter with a talent scout from the other side of the film industry.
Joylene reinvents herself as Pussy-Kat Kane, the sultry new Queen of Adult Movies. A gifted actress blessed with beauty and drive, will the Hollywood rulebook allow her to break out of porn into serious roles in mainstream pictures?
Be prepared to be entertained, provoked, and inspired.
Advance Praise
Godolphin has written a completely uncensored, witty and crazy view into life behind the scenes in both underground and overground Hollywood. The novel is littered with great wit and audaciously well crafted names of bit part players. Well written, by an obviously talented author. (Amazon, UK reader)
It is stylish, beautifully written and full of marvellous comedic moments, whilst harking back to the heyday of Jackie Collins and Harold Robbins - days when sex seemed more fun and less angst-ridden. Godolphin is an English writer, but with such an utterly convincing voice that one would think he was a longstanding Hollywood pro. (Amazon reader In Italy)
The book is interesting to read and written to be suitable for younger readers. It discusses the concept of being imperfect, and the dialogue keeps you interested throughout the read. I recommend this book to humorous fiction readers. (Amazon US reader)
