Description

In the wake of his mother’s death, 16-year-old Ollie is thrust into the world of his uncle, Dominic Quinn, a renowned stage medium. Communing with the dead runs in Ollie’s family – or so he believes. But as he starts to hear voices in his head, he must confront the possibility that they are no more than a spiral into hereditary madness.

Haunted by the mysterious letter that plagued his mum’s final days, Ollie embarks on a quest for answers. With the help of one of his uncle’s mysterious books and the support of his classmate, Hannah, Ollie delves into the secrets surrounding his mother’s past.

But as he navigates the blurred line between reality and the paranormal, he must face a daunting question: will it make him famous like his uncle, or dead like his mother? In this gripping young adult novel, Ollie discovers that sometimes, the most terrifying ghosts are the ones we carry inside.

This had everything that I was looking for from the description. The characters were everything that I was hoping for and enjoyed in the mystery genre. David Griffiths has a great writing style and enjoyed going on this journey with them. I hope there is more in this world and glad I got to read this.

The blurb for this read appealed to me massively, sounding so different to the usual tropes in my go to genre of thriller & mystery etc. So I was keen to get stuck in. If your interested in spirits, mediumship and the afterlife then this is definitely a book for you.

The beginning pages take us through Ollie being at his Mum Miranda’s funeral but he can hear her voice shouting to him about “finding the letter”, Ollie is with his Uncle Dominic who just tells Ollie he is high as he has took some medication to help him get through the funeral. As Ollie finds out more about the “sight” that his uncle was blessed with from his Nana he starts to question the truth about mediumship and starts to study the gift.

This is a YA read with thriller elements, not scary or creepy, but very cleverly written and an enjoyable read
