Description

“Adorably sweet!” – Swapna Haddow, author of the Dave the Pigeon series

Discover the wonderful world of Destiny Ink! Celebrate the magic of creativity in this highly illustrated new chapter book series from debut author and illustrator Adeola Sokunbi.

Destiny can’t wait to go for her first ever sleepover at her best friend’s house. But she also can’t help feeling a little worried … they’re going to camp outside in the garden – in a tent – but also in the dark! Destiny uses her trusty sketchbook to doodle her ideas and work through her worries. She even draws some monsters but that makes her feel a bit scared again, so she makes a tent in her room to practice in. When she goes to bed, she hears some noises from the tent and finds a monster inside!

But the monster isn’t frightening. He’s come for a sleepover but he’s not sure he’s ready. Can Destiny help him? After they try midnight snacks, dressing up and telling stories under the stars, Destiny realises there’s nothing to be worried about after all! The next morning, the monster has disappeared, but Destiny is more ready for a sleepover than ever!

Perfect for 5+ readers who love JoJo & Gran Gran, this series is all about teaching young readers to use their creativity to work through tricky emotions and develop empathy!

Destiny Ink is very excited! She is going to best friend Olivia's house, very soon, for a sleepover, which will be so much fun!  She's also a little bit scared, well, quite a bit scared actually, especially because they will be camping in Olivia's garden! In her own room that night Destiny tries to cheer herself up by doing her favourite thing, drawing and doodling in her special sketchbook. What happens next amazes her and, as she explores everything with a new friend, her fears begin to dissipate. By morning Destiny is no longer scared and can't wait for her sleepover to start.

This is a lovely book about one of those right of passage activities almost all children want to experience. Destiny is beautifully drawn in both words and pictures with a lovely feel good storyline and equally relatable illustrations. There is a chance to learn how to draw Destiny at the end of the book and I so wanted to colour in the pictures throughout!

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Nosy Crow, but the opinions expressed are my own. With a recommended reading age of 5 - 8 years this is a lovely book to either read aloud or snuggle up in bed with. Highly recommended.
