Shining Bright, Shining Black

A great, bright and colourful book telling the stories of brilliant black people from the past and present day. The illustrations are vivid and colourful and there are so many names to learn about, some I knew well and others I hadn't heard of.
A great addition to any classroom.

Obviously, one book isn't enough to show every important black icon. But this is a good start! Every person chosen here has a short bio with an explanation of why they're so important. The presentation is bright and the illustrations are colorful. Just because someone is famous for one thing doesn't mean that's the only contribution they've made. Many people have a profession where they excelled but are also important activists. There are a lot of details and most people could learn from this, but it's the kind of book you'll get more out of if you read an entry at a time and think about all the ways this person has been successful.

What a beautiful collection of 100 amazing black people throughout history. These stories are inspiring and a real showcase of strength and talent. I love that it included both historical and modern figures.
The layout was really well done, each figure is in order of chronology and includes a beautiful illustration and a short biography. I also really liked the Trailblazer section and the discussion section.
There is a good mix of personalities, you have artists, activists, celebrities and more.
This book is very concise and informative and I really enjoyed learning more about each person.

This book celebrates the lives of famous Black people. I learned something new about the lives of some of them. I never knew that Josephine Baker worked as a spy too. It certainly is both an informative and interesting book.

This book is an awesome collection of black excellence, featuring an eclectic mix of people from around the world. I like that this went beyond the obvious people that we all know to include some lesser known figures from the Black diaspora. The illustrations are eye-catching and the information interesting. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more about black history and pioneers worldwide.

This book is a reference book that showcases 100 Black trailblazers. Each entry is a perfect length, is accompanied by a fresh style of illustration of the respective Black person in history, and emphasises the important turning points in their lives, their success and their decisions.

Everything is presented in an engaging way, and the book does not need to be read from cover to cover - you can pick any entry and start with that person’s bio.

Some of my parts were the questions for discussion, the glossary and the timelines. They were a great addition to this book and make it different from similar books out there.

100 stories to empower and inspire all readers! This collection of profiles of Black icons combines the Black icons featured in Young Gifted and Black, and Young, Gifted and Black Too. The addition of discussion questions and timeline offer an opportunity to dive deeper into the lives of these icons and draw inspiration from their stories.

These are the type of books I buy based on the title alone! And I'm happy to say the inside is just as gorgeous and empowering!

I loved all the illustrations and getting to know more about Black people throughout history. I also loved learning about those I had no idea existed (or were black!) Like, I swear I found out every few months that Alexander Dumas is Black??? Lol

The illustrator of this children's history ebook is Andrea Pippins. The illustrations really pop in this book. They are bright, look realistic, and inviting. The images are somewhat pop art inspired and remind me a bit of comic book style illustration.

This educational picture ebook focuses on Black global achievements from the 1500s to the present day. The book opens with Juan Latino & Queen Nanny in 1518 and 1686, respectively. What I liked about this was how it included relatively unknown and somewhat obscure historical figures. This also truly features a global group of Black excellence and not just focuses on Black folks in the West. This is a perfect addition to any child's bookshelf. A must have for interesting and important history geared towards late grade school-aged children and up. My 2nd grade aged grandkids needed help with some of the words in this, but I loved the illustrations. This also includes discussion questions, timeline, and a glossary, creating a very thorough reference book.

As a teacher who works with a large black population this book is a must-have! I love that it talks about current and past Black trailblazers. I love the organization and setup of this book as well. It talks about timeline as well as where they are from and what they have done. I am excited to have this book for my students to read. I will definitely be reading some aloud. And encouraging my students to read the others themselves.

Shining Bright, Shining Black is a wonderful book that is jam packed with so many inspirational stories featuring Black icons. From Bob Marley to the Williams sisters, there are biographies and stories of so many Black achievements. This is a must-read for all kids!
