I am a huge fan of the Little People, Big Dreams series. They are fantastic books to introduce children to amazing people throughout history. The Vincent van Gogh book is no exception. The artwork is fantastic and the text is interesting and appropriate for young readers. This would be a wonderful addition to any classroom library!

Vincent Van Gogh was a talented and fascinating person to all ages. I, especially, admired the way his life was presented in this book for young readers. He led a troubled life and the presentation in this book of mental illness was handled sensitively so children could grasp what Van Gogh experienced in an informative but not a frightening manner.
The illustrations of his beautiful paintings were lovely. Well done!

Now this is how it should be done – not just this series, but any attempt at young biographies. Of course we don't get the end, but we have the nitty-gritty of the ear episode, the black spells, the early gloomy artwork, coloured "like dusty potatoes"… In a series that so often has dreadful visuals, these are amongst the best it's ever had – nicely attuning themselves to van Gogh's output, and scattering clues to his art throughout – the wispy trees from "Starry Night" are actually on the second spread here, as if van Gogh was forever learning and taking inspiration. We see Vincent in the yellow room, of "Bedroom in Arles" fame, but while it's definitely based on his work it's not some misguided, slavish tribute.

The visual references might mean little if the words didn't work, but they do, and this is now the standout junior biography of the Dutchman. He failed at several careers before painting, and still never sold more than a handful of them, but as we see here even when we're down in the dumps, doing something we love – especially if others love us doing it – is always a key to success.

Wow, incredibly well written book. I love the “Little People, Big Dream” series for my kids. This one will definitely be a go to for us. Aside from seeing Vincent van Gogh’s art and knowing about his ear incident- I never knew about his brother Theo being supportive and encouraging him to pursue art. I also like how this book brings up mental health in a way that can more easily make sense to kids.

An age-appropriate introduction to Vincent van Gogh, perfect for its intended audience, and the illustrations are STUNNING. I loved them so much, I would like a physical copy of this little book for that alone.

Last year I had the pleasure of visiting an immersive Van Gogh experience. This book does a great job of embodying his art style and work. I felt like I could have been looking at his work through this book. I loved the actual paintings being remade as part of the pages.

I enjoyed learning about his life and can see how this is the perfect format for younger children. It delt with his big feelings in an age appropriate way while still highlighting that even kids can feel this way (sad, lonely, rejection, defeat, etc.)

Informative book filled with lovely nods to Van Gogh’s most famous works, and the importance of having someone who believes in you and encourages you.

A beautiful picture book for young readers featuring the incredible biography of the artist Vincent Van Gogh. The illustrations to accompany this story are just stunning as they portray the colour, light and beauty of Van Gogh's beautiful work, such as the starry night and the sunflowers. His life was as colourful as his painted work. It is lovely to share great artists with young children and share the rich artistic culture with a new generation. My daughter is an avid collector of all the Little People, Big Dreams books, even now at 11years. She loves the gorgeous pictures and mini biographies that give her a glimpse into people's, cultures and important instances in the history of our world. This is the 3rd book in the Little People Big Dreams series that I've read, and this is the best one yet. Tackling such a complex and troubled person as van Gogh in a children's book is not for the faint of heart. I thought the prose was good and the illustrations even better.

Would recommend this series to parents with little ones.

I absolutely love this series of biographies. As a big art lover I found this one particularly special. The author and illustrator have done a beautiful job of combining Van Gogh's art into the illustrations in an immersive way.

I'll be getting a copy of this for my classroom as I think it is a wonderful way of introducing both an artist and their art to children.

I really love how inspiring this series of books are, showing children so many interesting careers that people can do and a multitude of other ways that ordinary people have changed the world. From activists and athletes to inventors and artists, there's something for everyone here.

I was intrigued by this particular biography because Vincent Van Gogh had a fairly sad life. This book doesn't shy away from the facts (his unhappiness at boarding school, struggling to find work, and mental health issues that led him to cut off an ear) yet it manages to find an inspiring and hopeful message about trying different things and not giving up when we fail at something. Another excellent addition to the series.

I really enjoy these Little People, Big Dreams books. I have read many! Like the others, this has beautiful illustrations and easy to read text. These are ideal if you want to know about someone famous. I love the timeline at the end too. This one, is all about Vincent Van Gogh who everyone knows about but it was nice to follow his life story in this quick and easy to follow book. This may be my favorite Little People Big Dreams book yet! I loved that while I read this I felt like I was learning more about Vincent Van Gogh, and that the information was easy to digest and comprehend. I thought that the illustrations were super cute, and I loved the color palates. I will definitely recommend this book to my customers of all ages!

Ahhh i loved this!! As a self/taught artist myself, i know how it feels to lead a “wrong” life that just didn’t feel right despite our best effort. The journey was never easy but it best to try found joy than spend the rest of our life being unhappy

I am a huge fan of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series and find these stories so useful and wonderful when teaching others and myself about all the wonderful people that make up our world! Regarding this story, I am a huge fan of Vincent Van Gogh, not just his art but his story as well, so I was very eager to see this book available for request!

This a beautifully told story about Vincent Van Gogh's life and the struggles he faced while becoming the well-known painter he is today. Life was not easy for Vincent for he struggled with his mental health for a very long time. This story allows us as adults to have meaningful conversations with our children and or students about how it is important to recognize when something is wrong and how to ask for help when needed. In this case, Vincent used art as his way of coping and allowing his mind to be at peace. I think this book brings to light that mental health looks can look like many things and can sometimes feel all-consuming. I am happy this book did not discuss his death but did bring to light the legacy he left and the impact/relationship he had with his brother Theo. Such a well-written story about Vincent Van Gogh's life.

The illustrator, Alette Straathof was a perfect fit for this story! I think the illustrator did an amazing job of connecting the words to the images but also the style felt perfect for who Van Gogh was and his work. So well done and truly excited to own this book in a hardcover edition!

A short and beautiful book about Vincent Van Gogh. It's spare on the details of his life but I'm not surprised since it's a children's book.

This is a very good simple explanation of Van Gogh's life and it even includes the troubling parts with his struggles with mental health. They described his style and explained he didn't see great success in his lifetime. The mental health issues were described in an appropriate maturity level but I'm so glad they represented his struggle and didn't leave it out.

I say it every time, but I just adore the Little people, Big dreams series! This book is another corker!!
I knew of Van Gogh's artwork, but I didn't no a single thing about his life story (except of course the ear fiasco!!) and I found this book so interesting. I know sometimes with these books, they 'water -down' some of the more darker moments in a persons life due to the target audience being children - so I'm sure there's a lot more detail to his life story. Nevertheless this book was fascinating.

I loved the artwork, and it was different to the other books in the series that I have read. The illustrates here were like water colour paintings - very fitting for this particular book.

I adore sunflowers, and have a very sentimental attachment to them - to the point where when I saw them in the opening pages of this book it got me all 'emosh'! I just loved the image!

This one focuses on the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh in a way that is accessible to children whilst also being fun and engaging.

The illustrations as always are done in a style which I find endearing.

Vincent van Gogh is a great biography of van Gogh for the youngest kiddos. I loved the illustrations in this one & all of the nods that were present throughout to Vincent's artwork. It kept a positive tone whilst talking about some really dark subject matter, but still mentioned episodes with mental health struggles such as the ear removal. I think the tone was just right for the age level it was directed at.

I always appreciate the illustrations in the Little People, BIG DREAMS biographies, but these were extra special. I also loved the focus on Vincent's relationship with his brother Theo. This book was a delightful read and perfectly age-appropriate. The illustrations were fittingly colorful, and I thought that it was a really smart idea for the illustrator to give the drawings a painting-like finish, to stick with the theme of the book. Additionally, the illustrations were highly detailed and beautiful, just like van Gogh's paintings.
As for the story, it was flawless. Despite there being some rough spots in the general biography of van Gogh, the author included them but made them simple and kid-friendly. Kids will be able to know the entire summary of van Gogh's life without being confused or uncomfortable by any information. Lastly, it made me really happy to see that the author ended the story with a moral/message for readers to carry with them long after finishing this book.

The Vincent van Gogh Version of Little People, Big Dreams is as amazing as all the other books. It explains the struggles of Van Gogh perfectly for Children without scaring them. I absolutly loved it. Also the chosen Art Style fits perfectly. Would definitly recommend it!

From the Little People, BIG DREAMS series, this is a biography of Vincent Van Gogh for children. Beautifully illustrated in the style of Van Gogh, it gives an overview of his life and is comprehensive enough that adults may learn a bit about the artist.

The book approaches the issue of the emotional difficulties Van Gogh experienced in a sensitive manner and ends on a positive note. I liked the emphasis on brotherly love and support and that even when we are troubled, we can find joy.

The back pages have more information and would be suitable for parents discussing with younger children or older children reading and learning on their own. A resource is provided where one can read more information about the artist and, of course, mentions the wonderful Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The Little People, Big Dreams series always does a wonderful job of not only introducing children to famous people, but also explaining difficult topics (in this case, depression) in child-friendly language.
As always, the drawings are lovely and it was a joy to read the book.

As soon as I saw there was a new Little People, Big Dreams book, I knew I needed to read it!

I loved the illustrations and they fit so well for Vincent Van Gogh. I do like how his struggles with mental health and the fact he did cut off his ear were mentioned, but in a way that worked in a children’s book.

I do wish they would have mentioned Vincent’s sister-in-law Johanna and how much she had to do with his fame after his death.

The life of Vinvent van Gogh was not a very happy one. He was sad most of his life and had to deal with depression as well as bullying. His unique artstyle didn‘t get much praise during his lifetime.

So one must assume that telling children about Vincents life without it being too sad but uplifting and inspiring instead is not the easiest task.

But as she usually does, María Isabel Sanchez Vegara does a very good job in doing exactly that. Without being untrue about Vincents life, she manages to tell the most important parts in a child appropriate way. She tells about his struggles but also his passion in painting as well as his great love and support from his brother Theo.

This book shows that it sometimes might take a while to find the thing you really love and want to do, that it takes failures along the way, but that those should not be as important.

Really nicely done, the words as well as the pictures.

his is a fun children's book discussing the story of the artist, VIncent Van Gogh. The illustrations are very cute and eye-catching. I think children will absolutely enjoy this book and learn quite a bit about his life. Even though I was familiar with his story I still found it very interesting. This is part of a series of biographies, Little People, Big Dreams written by this author that are well researched and engaging. I am consistently impressed with this series, I actively look forward to new additions and so far I haven't been disappointed by any of the ones I have read.

I absolutely love the Little People, Big Dreams series and thought this one made a great addition. I particularly liked that the illustrations in this book mimic van Gogh's iconic art style and this detail really enhanced the story being told. As always with this series, I loved the storytelling and I thought that the topic of mental health was handled in an age appropriate way. I appreciated the fact that the author focuses on art as a form of therapy and joy during dark times as opposed to leaning in to the 'troubled artist' trope which is often bought up in relation to van Gogh.

Overall I love this series and I really enjoyed this newest addition!

This book would serve as a great addition to my classroom library. The e-book version I accessed is also very helpful for a full-class read of the story, as I could have it up on my Smartboard while reading/discussing.
