Description

Night Shift—a spicy medical romance with suspense.

Broody, senior ER doc Atticus Thorin is about to hit 40 and facing burnout. His reputation for being an icy authoritarian doesn’t faze the fiery young redhead who just started in his department. From the moment they smack into each other, he’s intrigued by her admonishment to mind his manners.

Not only does Samantha Sheridan’s sassy wit inflame the doctor’s temper, but it also ignites the flames of his desire.

Atticus has spent years crafting the unbreakable walls around his scarred heart. He’s built his life around control and emotional detachment, a fortress no one has ever breached.

When the one man who should have been Samantha’s protector trades her to mafia drug lords, it sparks the doctor’s deep-seated need to rescue those in danger and fires emotions he thought were long since buried.

Chased by the sins of her father, Samantha’s past demons come to steal her away in the night, leaving her with nowhere to turn except to the man who breaks her in ways she never thought possible.

Teetering on the edge between heartbreak and healing, will he be the one to catch her, or will he let her fall?

A sizzling, workplace, age-gap romance, Night Shift is the first in a new series of standalone romances featuring a trio of brothers who each must learn to tear down their walls and find out what it’s like when you allow yourself to break.

Wow, this book was unlike any I had read. I could not put it down! I was intrigued by the Grey’s Anatomy like romance story and needed to find out more. I loved that the two characters were soooo different and yet they instantly were attracted to one another and had a will they won’t they hate to love vibe.

This story was so thought out and entertaining. I loved the age-gap and how the fmc, Sam, kept teasing Atticus the mmc about being old, even though he was not old at all. Their banter was absolutely amazing. The suspense of the story had me on the edge if my seat.

This was soooo good. The writing flowed so perfectly. The suspense has me on edge, I couldn’t read fast enough. I needed to know what was going on. And the spice was amazing. She is so inexperienced so he teaches her and oh wow is it hot! This was like nothing I had read. It was fun and I loved the characters.

I absolutely adored and devoured this book. It’s so incredible. I could relate so much to the characters. Putting this book down to do my responsibilities was nearly impossible. I absolutely adored how Sam and Atticus interacted. Seeing both point of views was such a great touch as well. Definitely get this book if you love anything medical, drama, and romance. Great spice as well!

I couldn’t read this book fast enough! This has everything. Mystery, spice, international intrigue, great friendships, and had me cheering for the characters out loud! I can’t wait for the next books in the series later this year. Atticus and Samantha are two strong-willed leads that do an amazing job of bringing out the best in each other without compromising what makes them the heroines we need. A fantastic debut for Craig Richards and Evie James as a writing team!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grey’s Anatomy with the Mafia suspense

Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2024

This book is about an ER doctor working the night shift and an ER Nurse that has started working at a new hospital. Atticus is known for being a bit of a player with the ladies and not one for relationships, until he stumbles upon Samantha “Sammich” as he’d call her in the hospital break-room. This book was so good! I couldn’t put it down. The banter and tension between the two main characters was the best! Sam was never expecting to open up as much as she did to Atticus, but with him for some reason it was easy! The suspense picks up about halfway through the book when the Mafia in town arrives to settle a debt and somehow Sam is involved. You meet Atticus’s younger brothers in the book as well; Braxton (middle) and Conan (baby) and they both work in medicine as well. Overall, this book has you on the edge of your seat at points, it has you twirling your hair and kicking your feet at the spice and the ending is just perfect! Definitely recommend! 5 stars for me on this one.

While I’ve read plenty of medical thrillers before, this is only the second medical romance I’ve ever read and it most definitely gave me heart palpitations! The mix of spice and suspense was addictive.

When sassy Samantha Sheridan begins her new life in Tacoma as a nurse at St. John’s Hospital, leaving a past full of trauma behind, she has no idea what she’s in for when she meets emergency room doctor Atticus Thorin. He’s grumpy and emotionally unavailable and she knows she should steer clear of him. But do you always do what’s best for you?

As their romance heats up, their protective walls come down. Both of them have dark pasts they’d rather forget, but Atticus’ vulnerability becomes clearer and Samantha’s defenses lessen. The exploration of forgiveness and redemption is done masterfully. This steamy age gap romance not only captivates but grips you from the start with its memorable characters, sharp banter, and a storyline that is more intense than expected.

This was my 1st medical contemporary romance novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I will most definitely be buying the next 2 novels in the series. The next 2 books follow Atticus' brothers Conan and Braxton. Who doesn't love a trio of delicious brothers? For someone who has religiously watched Greys from start to finish every year for the past 6 years and being such an avid reader; to have my two worlds collide was heaven.

I couldn't pass up a novel with so many of my favorite tropes being in one book. Who doesn't love a happily ever after story? Or a grumpy cinnamon roll MMC who is also fiercely protective? How about a sassy, independent, smart FMC? What about a unforeseen subplot with the perfect amount of suspense? Yes please!

Other tropes you will find in Night Shift are:

Grumpy/Sunshine, Age Gap-he's older, Forced Proximity, Touch Her & 💀, Healing Journey, and Found Family.

Night Shift takes place in Tacoma Washington and follows an ED Doctor, Atticus Thorin and a nurse, Samantha Sheridan.

Atticus likes to be in control, is set in his ways, and emotionally unavailable. Sam is independent, resilient, and has a firecracker spirit. Both have endured childhood trauma and each have their own demons. Once Atticus meets Sam it's the perfect example that love can conquer all, especially when you fully submit to one another. Night Shift has the perfect amount of spice and Craig Richards does the audiobook version which is chef's kiss!

I was able to connect with the characters and the writing style keeps you wanting to turn the page. I'm eagerly waiting for the next 2 books so I can get to know Conan and Braxton more. I already love Conan so much!

Evie James and Craig Richards do an amazing job touching on mental health and the challenges people face.

I just flipped the last page of ""Night Shift"" by Evie James and Craig Richards, and guys, it's a solid 5-star story. Imagine all the drama of a hospital romance like Grey’s Anatomy but with extra layers of emotional depth and a big amount of danger. It's like they took everything we love about those steamy, workplace flings and dialed it up to eleven.

Atticus, the MMC, is the textbook definition of ""grumpy but cinnamon roll."" He's got this whole brooding doctor vibe nailed down, hiding a whole world of feels behind those unbreakable walls he's built around his heart. Watching him slowly open up was like peeling an onion—lots of tears but totally worth it. Then there's Samantha. She's fiery, she's sassy, and she's running from a past that would rather keep her in the dark. She lands straight into Atticus's complicated life, and sparks fly. Their connection is intense, filled with those 'will they, won't they' moments that keep you up way past your bedtime.

What makes ""Night Shift"" more than your average romance is how it deals with heavy stuff—like dealing with past traumas and facing bad guys who want to take Sam to Russia. It's not just about the hot doctor and the brave nurse finding love; it's about them overcoming their darkest moments together. The age gap, the suspense, and the whole grumpy/sunshine dynamic add so much flavor to their story. And let me tell you, the steamy scenes? Fire. But it's the laughter, the healing, and the heart-stopping moments of suspense that really make this book a keeper.

So, if you're into romances with a bit more bite, where characters face their shadows head-on and come out stronger (and more in love) on the other side, ""Night Shift"" is your next must-read. Evie James and Craig Richards have done a great job with this one. It's got all the feels, and then some.

Grumpy, unavailable doctor comes head to head with independent, unavailable, much younger nurse, both with plenty of baggage and sizzling attraction they want to ignore. Secrets and miscommunication as they fight the heat, and even interference by the bratva. Lots of spice, and you may want to slap Sam, but a quick read.

Oh My God this is amaaaaaazing, at first I was a little standosffish with the male main character cause of his past and all that but then as I got to know him and also got more interested in the story I realized how much I liked it and got to understand him more too. It’s also a spicy 🌶️ one so yeah i definitely recommend it!

(Gripping, Steamy, and Unforgettable!)

Night Shift by Evie James and Craig Richards is an addictive, sizzling workplace romance with a perfect balance of suspense, steam, and emotional depth. From the very first page, I was hooked!

Atticus Thorin, a brooding, burned-out ER doctor nearing 40, has built walls around his heart. Enter Samantha Sheridan, a fiery, quick-witted nurse who challenges him from the moment they meet. The chemistry between these two is undeniable, and the tension is off the charts. But when Samantha’s past comes back to haunt her, Atticus’s protective instincts are triggered, forcing him to confront his own demons. Samantha is a force to be reckoned with—strong, independent, and unafraid to call out Atticus on his icy demeanor.

The romance is a slow burn, but the emotional payoff is huge. Atticus’s transformation from a cold, emotionally detached doctor to a man willing to break down his walls for Samantha is both heartbreaking and beautiful. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the steamy chemistry between Atticus and Samantha will leave you breathless.

With a grumpy/sunshine dynamic, an age-gap romance, and plenty of heart-pounding moments, Night Shift is a must-read for fans of dark, emotional, and suspenseful romances. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for more in this series!

Hot hot hot! I love a good medical romance, and Night Shift delivers. Atticus and Samantha both desperately need therapy, but until such a day comes as they get it, their relationship rests on Atticus' need to control everything around him and Samantha's need to refuse to trust a living soul. However, they come out of it on top (and bottom) with spicy scenes and a love story to make readers swoon.

Loved reading the amazing and awesome romance story. Atticus, the ER doctor, is known for only one night stands, but Samantha, an ER nurse, is someone Atticus would like to spend more time with. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting love story.

Night Shift is an enticing medical romance that intertwines suspense with a dash of mafia intrigue. At its core is Atticus Thorin, a brooding senior ER doctor nearing 40 and grappling with burnout. His reputation for being an icy authoritarian doesn't deter the spirited young nurse, Samantha Sheridan, who brings a fiery wit to the department. Their initial clash leads to a magnetic connection, igniting both tension and desire. As Atticus attempts to maintain the unbreakable walls around his scarred heart, Samantha's sassy demeanor challenges his emotional detachment.

The stakes rise when Samantha's safety is jeopardized by the man who should have protected her, pulling Atticus into a deep-seated need to rescue her from the looming danger. This unexpected twist reveals layers of both characters, who are haunted by their pasts—Samantha by her father's sins and Atticus by his emotional scars. This age-gap romance captures the journey of healing and trust. Atticus and Samantha's relationship is fraught with challenges as they learn to lower their defenses and embrace vulnerability. The chemistry between them is palpable, enhanced by steamy encounters that will leave readers breathless. The medical backdrop is more than just a setting; it's a vital component of the narrative. It's an enjoyable escape into a world where love blossoms amidst chaos, making it a perfect pick for fans of spicy, age-gap romances. Highly recommended for those curious about the unexpected blend of medical and mafia themes!

Oh my goodness, the sassy side of our FMC is ridiculously amazing. I'm new to Evie James and Craig Richards' books, so I was going in blind for my first book for them and I'll tell you that I have zero regrets.

I'm a lover of character chemistry and to see a doctor who seems to be very rightfully stuck up and unable to communicate properly to the nurses surrounding him barraged by the sweet and sassy side of a brand new nurse to his hospital makes me *completely* content. I hate to say it like this, but it sounds, for all intents and purposes, as if he went through something deep before she got there and of course, that makes for a poor first impression when all he wants to do is shut people around him out and simply deal with the patients. (Not a bad thing for a doctor to focus, clearly, as they are saving lives. But it's also leaving his completely passing him by in the meantime, being so closed off.)

This is not your average "boy meets girl, they fall for each other and live happily ever after" type of romance. You will find darkness. You will find trauma (and I'm not just talking about emergency room scenarios). You will find laughter and tears, and each emotion in between if I'm being honest.

Grumpy man meets his match in the sweet, sassy younger woman, filling two tropes in one for me while the whole mafia ordeal fills a third, driving home my full love of this one and the prayer that there will be more of this story to come!

This was a spicy, romantic story with action and a bit of thrill mixed in. Atticus is a hardened ER doctor who doesn't do relationships. Samantha is a newly hired ER nurse with a touch of sass and a desire for a real home and friends and family. When they two meet the chemistry is off the charts. Life throws a lot of obstacles in their path to happiness in the form of Russian Mafias. When Sam's life is in danger, Atticus realizes what she means to him, but will he be too late? Overall, a great book. I loved Atticus' brothers, and the staff at the hospital. I thought Sam was a bit immature at times, but thought she handled herself well at the end. Great read for those looking for action with a side of steam.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
