Description

There’s your side. My side. And the truth.

Lisa Jewell meets Jodi Picoult in a story of betrayal and deception in the aftermath of family tragedy.

She must face justice. As her sister it kills me to say it. As his mother I demand it.

When Jen Miller entrusts her youngest child to the care of her beloved sisters, she has no idea of the devastating tragedy that is about to unfold.

To celebrate her sister's wedding, global superstar Winter Kellaway throws the party of the decade at her luxurious beachside estate. The decorations are flawless. The champagne is on ice. The guests have arrived. But one misstep will have heartbreaking consequences that will rock this close-knit family to their core.

With her life in pieces, how can Jen ever begin to forgive?

Saul Anguish, a brilliant but tormented young detective, is called in to investigate and uncovers a long-buried and shocking family secret. As the trail takes a dramatic turn, they must now all face the truth that you can never truly leave the past behind . . .

I loved this gripping thriller exploring family secrets, relationships and the bond between sisters. Very well-written with relatable characters. The story, set in Midtown-on-Sea, features DS Saul Anguish, a character from previous novels.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an arc in exchange to an honest review.

4+ ⭐

New Cummins is always a reason to celebrate.
New Cummins with Saul is probably worth getting the wine out for 😁

So good to catch up with Saul, and to have a new mystery to get stuck into.
One in which Saul hovers around the perimeters of.
Three sisters, and their love, loyalty and how things fall when tragedy strikes.
There were some moving moments in this one for sure.
A very enjoyable read, that left me a bit "WHAT?????" at the end.
In a good way.

Whoa. What a book! This book takes a few different time periods and then ties them together at the end. One consists of a family with an alcoholic father that loses his job. Another is three sisters and how they grew up together. We have a period that is these same sisters right now, and then Saul and Blue and how things have changed for them since the last book. When one of these sisters ends up on trial, secrets galore come to light! Holy cow! I never would have guessed how all these different stories tie together! Shocking shocking book!

This is a book you have to keep reading to keep up with all the twists and turns, emotions galore, some truly awful characters and heartbreaking moments.
I don’t think I’ve read a book with so many interlinked stories that shock you as they are revealed. The final shock makes me hungry for the next book…. There will be one wont there?! Strongly recommended!

This book follows the story of the three Kellaway sisters after a heartbreaking tragedy. Interwoven with the past, the story is a little slow to begin with, but gathers pace in the second half.
The story of Saul and Blue continues from the earlier book, though in a much less prevalent way.
An enjoyable read that I flew through in a few days.

Some Of Us Are Liars is a dark family drama that I couldn’t put down.
The book is centred around three women over different timelines. The first is of a family that has a drunk for a father and likes to serve out abuse. The second is of a normal family with three daughters and the dynamics of their time growing up and the third is now. Jen is married and has two children but is going to get married in front of all her friends and family curtesy of her eldest sister. Whilst Jen and her husband wait for their family to arrive including their children tragedy strikes and life for the three sisters will never be the same again. Saul is the investigating officer of this tragedy and some things aren’t quite adding up.
This was a great read, this will be another top seller for Fiona Cummins for sure. The characters and the storyline are great and the way the timelines twist together was very clever and well thought out, well I didn’t get it! Saul is a nice recurrence but I wish he was present a little more than he was. A dark drama that I couldn’t put down.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Pan MacMillan for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

A close-knit family is rocked to its core when one of them is held responsible for the death of a child. As the circumstances around the death are investigated shocking secrets are discovered.

Author Fiona Cummins has written another sure-fire bestseller with Some Of Us Are Liars. I was immediately gripped by the intriguing opening pages and then found I couldn't put the book down, I had to know what had transpired. Obviously, with a title including the word liars you know that there will be secrets people are desperate to stop being uncovered, the enjoyment is in trying to spot them. Skilled writers like Fiona Cummins have this knack of keeping you dangling until the very end.

Jen Miller is close to both her elder sister Winter and her younger sister Alyssa. Not only do all three share a strong bond but their homes are close together and Jen and Alyssa's husbands work together. Life is perfect, and much of that is thanks to the fact that there are no money worries as the eldest sister Winter is a successful actress who has shared her success with her family.

Jen and her husband Phil snuck away and married in secret, much to the annoyance of the rest of the family. Winter insists on throwing a lavish party so they can reaffirm their vows in front of friends and family. It is during this party that disaster strikes and Jen's young son, Teddy, is killed, with Alyssa being held responsible. How does such a devoted family come to terms with such a tragic event?

The story is told from different perspectives, and time periods, with the majority of the story focusing on Jen and Alyssa. It is incredibly easy to understand Jen's emotional state as she swings from the excitement of being centre of attention on such a momentous day to dealing with the agony of losing a child. Alongside this, we see the guilt both Winter and Alyssa feel. As the story moves between the different characters it becomes clear that quite a few of them are hiding secrets and you begin to wonder if this ideal, loving family is as perfect as it initially seemed. There is also the intrigue as to how the seemingly unrelated and disturbing events from the past fit into the tale.

DS Saul Anguish does feature quite a bit as he deals with his own relationship and a secret investigation the Chief Constable has asked him to carry out. The two threads do combine but Saul isn't the main part of this story as the focus is primarily on the three sisters and how they struggle to come to terms with the harrowing event and its aftermath, a situation that has the ability to tear apart families.

Secrets, grief, murder and a stalker all combine to keep you gripped. I did manage to figure out one of the secrets but that really only scratched the surface in this complex and shocking story.

Fiona Cummins can do no wrong! Her novels are well written, gripping from start to finish and full of twists and Wow! moments. This is not just crime fiction, it is the story of a family torn apart by tragedy and the subsequent revelations. The tension is palpable, the secrets and lies delicious and the whole thing is a joy!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan for my copy of Some of Us are Liars by Fiona Cummins.

WOW!!!!! I really didn't see that coming.
A fascinating read that you won't want to put down. Weaving three stories into one,
You are gradually able to put the stories together in time for ONE unbelievable finish.
I devoured this book, I had to know the end before I slept. It wasn't what I thought.
SUPERB!!!!!!

Another excellent book from this author. I didn’t find this as dark as some of her previous books, despite the tragic events detailed, but thoroughly enjoyed the enthralling stand alone story entwined with the ongoing storyline of the very unusual, to say the least, detective, Saul Anguish, and his partner, Blue. Whilst the main story is very well concluded, the hints and twists at the end leave you desperate for the next episode with Saul.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review and to Fiona for your always wonderful imagination and talent.
