Description

Dorianna is a dark fantasy/paranormal/twist on Dorian Gray with a female anti-hero(ine), set in Coney Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Internet followers, beauty, power. It all sounded good. Until it transformed into a terrifying reality Dorianna couldn’t stop

Dorianna is a dark twist for the Internet generation on A Picture of Dorian Gray. When her father is jailed, her mother ships lonely, plain Dorianna to her aunt’s. There, Dorianna yearns to build a new identity, but the popular Lacey bullies her—mostly for getting attention from her ex, Ander.

Ander takes Dorianna to Coney Island where Wilson, a videographer, creates a stunning compilation of her. She dreams of being an online sensation, as she’s never even had a birthday party, and vows she’d give anything to go viral. Wilson claims he’s the Prince of Darkness and warns her the pledge has downsides. Dorianna thinks he’s joking. She has no idea of the dire consequences.

She’s thrust into the spotlight, and an incomprehensible nightmare. Not only is she prettier, she’s gaining harmful powers of manipulation. When her powers grow beyond anything she can control, she’s desperate but clueless as to how to stop it.

I was not sure what to think of this title at first. It sounded interesting so I took a chance and I am so happy that I was approved for this advanced review copy.
What I liked about it the most was that Dorianna is a girl that a majority of us can relate to. She is that shy awkward girl in school that most people overlook and underestimate.
It was fascinating to see her go from that shy awkward girl into a self-assured teenager.
There were times that I felt she was going to lose her humanity completely and I was happy that she was able to reel it back in.
I never considered her relationship with her Ander all too serious. I felt that he was just using her to make another girl jealous and it turns out that was the truth. That whole part of the book was a little predictable but it fits in with the end result so it didn't bother me too much.
Wilson was a character that I was a little disappointed in. For someone that was supposed to be so powerful he certainly let me down as the "prince of darkness".
I don't understand exactly who he was. What I mean is was he the devil or was he just one of the Devils minions. I would have loved to have learned more of his background. His character definitely needed more expansion.
The story itself was interesting and it reminded me a lot of that movie "the craft.
I loved the supernatural aspects of the story and I also love how Doriana held onto her humanity with every part of her being. I never once believe she would totally give herself over to the Darkside.
Overall why this book had a few choppy parts to the storyline it was a really fun and exciting read.
I feel that the author wrapped it up beautifully in the end.
That said I would Definitely read a follow-up to this book if one were to be released.
