Description
Dream vacation . . . or holiday from hell? A steamy and suspenseful thriller, full of family scandal and murder. Perfect for fans of The Perfect Couple and The White Lotus.
Summer on ultra-exclusive Mokani Island has always been the highlight of Avery Finch's year. It's a chance to hang out in paradise with other super rich families. But this summer, Avery brings along her college roommate, Nora, and the vibe feels off from the start.
Avery's parents are desperately trying to cover up scandalous secrets. Her ex, Hugo, can't get over their split. Her best friend, Sydney, is acting weird. Leo, who looks hot in his staff uniform, can't keep his eyes off her. And nobody likes Nora, who keeps sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. Everyone on the island is hiding something - and some secrets are worth killing for.
A tropical storm is brewing, and before long someone is going to end up dead ...

This was like White Lotus for teens. I am usually not one of murder/mystery but this title was very intriguing with the big White Lotus craze and looking for something different to read/acquire than my ususal genre. It had glamour, suspense, mystery, and intrigue and I was hooked wanting to know what happens next. Wouldn’t be surprised if it gets picked to for a series on TV targeting teens

How the Other Half Die is a compelling story of friendship, secrets & how they can affect everything!
I love the 3 different points of views. I really feel the helped with the reveals & some of the shocks.
I was blown away by the epilogue. What a shocking last minute twist!
I would recommend for fans of Then Things Went Dark, We Were Liars & Karen Mcmanuses books.

This was such a intense and suspenseful read overall as secrets begin to bubble, exes create drama and someone not making it home alive!

"How the Other Half Die" drops readers into the seemingly idyllic paradise of Mokani Island, where ultra-wealthy Avery Finch has always indulged in her summer retreat. This time, however, the arrival of her college roommate Nora shatters the island's idyllic veneer, revealing a pot of secrets and simmering tension. The blurb suggests a tasty multi-layered relationship web: Avery's parents are so keen to keep scandalous facts under wraps, her ex-boyfriend is unable to cope with their split, her best friend is suspicious, and a member of staff, Leo, is the object of her desire. Nora, a presence that seems unwelcome, continuously prods the island's underlying underbelly, and as a consequence, she is an instant outsider.
When a tropical storm is imminent, foreshadowing the building emotional storm, it is apparent that everyone in Mokani has something to hide, and some of these are deadly enough to kill for. The threat of body count until the storm erupts creates an air of tangible fear and tension. This thriller appears to strike a great balance between hot encounters and real suspense, so it's an engaging read for anyone who likes to discover nefarious secrets within the context of privilege and danger. If you're in the mood for a page-turner with family drama, clandestine affairs, and a murder mystery with high stakes, "How the Other Half Die" looks to be a suspenseful diversion.

Set on an paradise island around four rich families and numerous invisible staff this book is for White Lotus fans. It's an incredibly interesting book with lots of secrets to be uncovered. I loved it, it kept me up all night reading. It has an amazing ending too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a fun murder/mystery... it's a lot different from my usual choice of book but I am glad I decided to read this!
I liked how we switched from different POVs and the suspense was keeping me engaged with the book.
Over all a solid 4 star read and I would certainly read more from this author as I feel the book is really well written.
I would agree that this gives White Lotus vibes but really does stand its own and deserves its own recognition.

How the Other Half Die is a sun-drenched thriller laced with scandal, suspense and simmering secrets. Set on the elite and glossy Mokani Island, this is not your average holiday read – beneath the palm trees and poolside cocktails lies a storm of betrayal, obsession and murder.
Avery Finch’s annual escape to paradise takes a dark turn when she invites her college roommate Nora along. With a cast of characters that includes jaded exes, secretive best friends and brooding staff members, the drama quickly begins to bubble over. Nora’s outsider status makes her the perfect lens through which to view the tightly-wound island elite – and it’s clear she’s not welcome.
Roscoe masterfully creates a tension-filled atmosphere, pairing luxury with unease. Every character has something to hide, and as a tropical storm barrels in, the island’s carefully guarded facade starts to crack. The slow reveal of truths and tangled relationships makes for an addictive and claustrophobic reading experience.
This book delivers escapism with a dark edge. Glamorous, gripping and full of twists, How the Other Half Die is a sharp reminder that even paradise can be deadly.

When Avery brings her friend Nora home to join them for their luxurious annual vacation on Mokani Island, holiday hotspot for the decidedly privileged, the last thing she expects is for everything to go wrong.
Her best friend's acting weird, her ex boyfriend even weirder, and Nora's excessive interest in the business of others perhaps weirdest of all. And they aren't the only ones with secrets, because her parents aren't behaving normally either. What is going on?!
An enjoyable read that provides plenty of entertainment this gets 3.5 stars and is well worth checking out.
